I have only been disapointed by borkum riff so far, this was no exception, smells like fake cherries and it tastes worst, too artificial and syrupy for me. I like cherry tobaccos, but i hated this one, it's kind of overwhelming to say the least. If you want cheap OTC cherry tobaccos, even Captain Black cherry is better.

Without exception another disappontment from B.riff.when the seal breaks a chemical smell comes out..reminded me a lot of C.black cherry.very moist even if dried.lights with effort and needs relights all the time..while burning i got a very artificial taste wich had no match with a natural cherry taste.no tobacco taste at all.the nicotine level is a bit higher than low.the room note is a chemical smell(wife said).burns slow and hot.leaves a lot moisture and dumbness.one pack is enough to ghost your pipe trust me.not an all day smoke and not worth trying this one.

I was not even going to try this blend until I saw a YouTube review by Phillip Brodginski who generally makes fair comparisons & descriptions to brands I am familiar with. There are three things cherry blends are attempting to accomplish - cherry pouch/tin note, room note, & great taste. Whatever casings or additives they use can't seem to get all three, but this blends hits does more than the other cherry blends I have tried, maybe because it is more Va's or what I don't know. I have tried Cap't Black, Paladin, & Middleton's Cherry Blends. Stokkebye's Cherry Bonbon, Lane's Very Cherry and Stanwell's Cherry. This tastes best and the room note is extremely nice.

This "tobacco" might be very tasty with a dollop of whipped cream or some Breyers vanilla. As for smoking it, I found this to be the most over the top aromatic I have ever tried. If you like cherry cordial flavor, this is it.

This stuff almost killed me!!!!! I had to beat up the poor guy who sold this to me just to get over the initial taste!!!! Avoid it like the plague. I don't know if the other Borkum Riff blends are as bad but I don't plan on finding out!

The worst tobacco I have ever smoked. It fact, it doesn't even FEEL like tobacco! The taste of cherry is much too present, leaving no room for enjoyment. I have not even felt any sort of relaxation or pleseant soothness that tobacco usually gives.

To avoid like poison.

At age 17 I once smoked several loads of this stuff in an enclosed car and as a consequence threw away my pipe and didn't smoke another for many years. Thus endeth the lesson.

Borkum Riff, Cherry Cavendish! (now called ruby). Opening that pouch and smelling that sweet amazing cherry aroma - is just the best!

Why so many have had a bad experience with this blend is beyond me, maybe bad batches were shipped out years ago?

Tastewise: Creamy cherry deliciousnesss, with just a small splash of vanilla mixed in there for added benefit and uniqueness. No bite, No bitterness, No fuss. Lights well every time, always delivers that pleasurable no-frills smoke when you need to wind down and puff away. This is what I want in my pipe bowl during a lazy summers afternoon, THIS is the stuff i would stash away a metric ton of, inside an secure underground bunker when the world was coming to an end. After a while of testing different styles and blends early in my pipe hobby, this became the staple, go-to, golden standard on my shelf.

The other borkum riffs i don't care for at all, they are ranging from just ok to flat out hideous. This one howewer is a true gem worthy of the name ruby.

Also: Getting compliments from people on the lovely smell as you are smoking, is an added benefit.

Price point: Cheap As of writing this 165:- SEK in Sweden (17 USD) by online stores.

Fun fact: Borkum Riff is named after a reef located in the north sea.
Pipe Used: Unnamed briars, meerschaums and corncob
PurchasedFrom: Sweden
Age When Smoked: Straight from pouch up to several months

The worst blend i have ever tasted.

A bad smelling and even worst tasting blend. It is like a completely artificial cherry flavor (almost like a fake, cheap syrup). Right out of the pouch it smelled almost like a shisha cherry mollasse (quite pleasant indeed), but when lit up it is an absolute failure.

It's a full flavor (although very mild, nicotine wise), but tastes nothing like cherry and it gets worse until the end of the bowl. It has an awfull persistent aftertaste, it has way too much and bad quality casing and burns your tongue like putting out a match on it. When it comes to the room note, i got the worst feedback imaginable. Despite the fact that concerning the note's strength it ranks as "pleasant", it has a bad aroma. People liked it better when i smoked lattakia next to them.

All in all, just no... There are a ton of cheap aromatic blends out there with much better quality. Skandinavik, Captain Black, Seven Seas all have simillar prices and are way better.

Would i buy again? Nope. Would i recommend it to new smokers? Nope. Would i recommend it to non-aromatic smokers? OH no, keep away!

I'm proud to admit I have a strong fondness for cherry pipe tobaccos, especially darker varieties for their inherent richness. Although yes, this tobacco can be considered a drug store commoner, would it receive a higher general rating if it was a rare smoke? I believe so. For within this easily misunderstood pouch lies an dark mix of tobaccos that when allowed to air for 2 minutes for better combustion, smoked slowly and with a slightly denser pack, will leave only very mily tongue bite, a room full of thick, fragrant smoke, and of course, a very relaxed piper. Its scent is not of the same quality as, say, black cherry mixture by samuel gawith & co. And nor is its flavour profile as true to cherry as, for example, M-27 three cherry by McClelland. But its a damn good try! The reality is that if you dont have access to better cherry aromatics, this aint bad, but there are much better blends out there

Happy piping
