Sutliff Tobacco Company Rum & Maple

(3.14)
Sutliff's version of Rum and Maple. The ideal mixture of Virginia and burley is combined with warm, sweet maple and the subtle tones of rum. A great smoke for any time of the day or night.

I'm not a fan of aromatics. Ironically, I always buy aromatics in the hope that they won't displease me. Recently, for example, I tried Molto Doce -- I didn't like it. I decided to do one last experiment: I bought two Sutliff aromatics bulks, one of them being Rum & Mapple. What tobacco my friends, WHAT TOBACCO! Amazing! It is a balanced VaBur, without tongue-biting or any trace of flavoring chemistry....it looks like it was picked from a Virginia plant that was irrigated with rum and cured with Mapple....the burley is full-bodied, with a creamy smoke that fills the mouth -- and makes us think of eating a delicious pancake on a cold morning. A perfect burning for a great cut. Do not demand relights. A GREAT VaBur with a gentle reminder of some aromatic -- perfect. Finally, my search is over: I found my favorite aromatic blend. Note: 4 stars

I bought this as an add-on to a larger bulk order, mostly because of the maple, and style strength suggested.

Mostly ribbon, with some larger, ripped up leaf. The tin note is maple mostly with a whiff of dark rum. It’s not a strong tin note, but it is pleasant and smells tasty. It came a bit wet, which I’m coming to expect from sutliff. It packs well, and takes a few chars to get going. It burns well, with some relights towards the bottom. The flavor is natural, the maple stands out more to me than the rum. The rum is there, as support to keep the sweetness down a tad. The maple is very much maple sugar flavor. The flavor is consistent, in the medium range, the nic is ok, not strong like I figured. The tobacco flavor is not absent, and seems to be good quality for a bulk aromatic. The burley is forward, and a nice nutty, chocolate variety. The Virginia is not very noticeable, and I don’t notice any of the normal lemony or otherwise citrusy tastes associated with it.

This is a well done aromatic blend. It can be a bit overly sweet at moments, but it’s not soggy in the bowl. It definitely gets a high wife approval rating. I like autumn evening, and this reminds me of that. Could be an all day for some, I prefer it while lounging with a coffee or hot cocoa.
