Rum & Maple. Two flavors that sound perfect for one another, and while I didn't have high hopes for a bulk blend, the open bag did give off a pleasant maple syrup treat. There may of been a Rum element adding a 'rougher' sweetness to the mix, but the end result was a dusty maple powder.

The nice chunky ribbons were lightly damp with topping, slightly sticky, yet not too syrupy to be considered a doused Aromatic. The bouncy, base Burley can wad up and pack tightly, so best to keep things loose. Stays lit like a champ, with the first few puffs giving off a light smoke that keeps some semblance of the Maple and lets the Rum grow, without being terribly sweet.

This was not a candy Aromatic, so I can see it appealing to non-Aromatic smokers wanting to venture out a few steps, but for me, if I want some pancakes and booze in the morning, I want it laid on thick.

I did not realize that this blend is NOT an aromatic. It has no bite, or noticeable nicotine. After I left the bag open for several days, I had no problem keeping it alight. Has a woodsy flavor, not like maple syrup. Pouch note is sweet. Room note is like a campfire. It should please bystanders.

It's alright. The ribbons are fluffy and slightly greasy. The flavouring is mild to medium, leaning more to maple than rum. The taste reminds me of Quakers maple and brown sugar porridge. The burley is okay: It gets bitter and cigarette like by the end, but even then its not unpleasant, just not the best. The red virginias are sweet, a little acidic and not particularly noticeable. It's okay, the flavour of the maple is less artificial than, say, autumn evening, but it's still not like real maple syrup. It burns well. I dry it out a bit. Unsure if I would buy more, but I would smoke it again. Not quite 3 stars, but close enough. It's worth a try, for sure.

I've been smoking for 29 year now and I've been reading the reviews a long the years but I never thought about giving a review myself. But I realize that a person's opinion does matter and that I should contribute to this old pastime that I love.... When I opened the bag I got the maple scent; it was very pleasant and I was expecting a great experience. It's a little moist, but lights easily packs well, and makes a lot of smoke and burns down completely to a white ash, so burns well. I could not get anything bad from this tobacco, it's very mild which I find nice, but it's a bit strong, I got tongue bite three quarters of the way through my first bowl of this stuff. Not sure if it's because I was on my third bowl when I got to this Rum and Maple, maybe I should have started with this first. Although I do find anything with alcohol tends to bite. I do believe it's because of the alcohol content and not the casing. No artificial flavoring was detected. This tobacco should be sipped to avoid tongue bite. Relights were necessary between pauses. The scent is very mild and pleasant. I do like this tobacco. Oh, wife gets caramel.👍

I purchased a bulk 2 ounces of Rum & Maple from a local tobacconist. The pouch note is delicious and, I'm sure, the reason most smokers are drawn to this tobacco. A buttery-maple odor oozes as the primary note, and is followed up with a hint of brown sugar and booze behind it. The ribbon is extremely moist. Upon initial light, the citrus and hay from the Virginias mildly comes through, as does the nuttiness of the burley, but the topping almost entirely subdues the tobaccos. The taste and smoke aroma are consistently of sweet maple syrup; I have a very hard time detecting rum outside of the pouch note. Nicotine content is mild. Despite a wonderful flavor and aroma, I actually found the tobacco to be nearly unsmokable with the amount of tongue-bite it was giving me. I decided to jar the remainder of my pouch to aid in drying. After two weeks of intermittent open-lid time, I found the excess moisture to have largely dissipated and the topping still pleasantly strong in aroma. I still have a difficult time with the amount of tongue-bite this blend gives me, but it's not nearly as bad as it was when I bought it. Recommended for a quality, flavorful aromatic, but if you're cadence tends to be quick or tongue-bite hits you easily, you might want to reconsider.

Well, you may not be hankering for a Cuba Libra served up with a warm flapjack, but I guarantee the thought will enter your mind with an initial tasting of this one. Entering ala the Tobacco Galleria collection, from the country’s oldest operating manufacturer, Sutliff Tobacco serves up the classic Rum & Maple for your piping enjoyment. A traditional aromatic recipe of choice Burleys paired with a complementing volume of Virginian tastefully marinated in polarizing compote of hardy rum and sugared maple flavorings of course.

Upon opening the pre-packaged envelope of tobacco, I surveyed a slightly moist collection of coarsely cut fragments of rich White and Dark Burleys interlaced with fine shaggy wisps of ribbon appearing to be an assortment of Bright and what I deem as stoved Virginia. Predominantly chocolate hued with indications of a notable degree of fermented darkening, Rum & Maple projects a good-natured façade of quality varietals. Incidentally you can purchase this in bulk form and it’s a darn sight cheaper.

Frankly the pouched perfume on this mixture is hands-down alluring. My senses were enticed by the lovely sugary maple blast that pitches freely from the open bag, even at a reasonable distance. Behind this wonderful air, the registration endows a gentle distant tang overridden by a clean, noteworthy wave of natural Burley. Additional garnishment shines through with a distinct note of alcohol spice, and interestingly a masking of chocolate although this in not one of the official profiled constituents. Perhaps an illusion created by the confluence of all the other additives and anonymous casings, but that is what I acknowledged?

Now that I have smoked an honest share of trial bowls, in my qualified and measured opinion this is a well-contrived recipe. Essentially the featured rum and maple top-coatings are appropriately balanced and play off each other quite deliciously. The harmoniously fusion of these two contrasting ingredients is complete and seamlessly smooth; an impressive blending achievement to say the least. In effect, Rum & Maple yields a pleasant aromatic smoking experience that is medium strengthen-medium intensity in temperament.

At times the delectable maple additive does dominate the presentation overall, but the rum chase tenaciously hangs tight on the perimeter of the forward taste band. With the maple the notation is excitingly dense and substantial. It characterizes as a splendid buttery mesh enveloping nuances of caramel, brown sugar, and molasses evolving into exquisitely potent goodness of flavor. If you favor the wonderful taste of Vermont syrup, then you this one will most likely put a smile on your face. On the rum note, a classic feel of Jamaican hooch brings about a character of misty sweetness combined with the musty edged spice of an alcohol condiment.

Equally significant, the native Burley stands in consistent company on the baseline offering elements of toasty, cultured wood, seasoned nuttiness, and a dash of cocoa; well played Sutliff. This accompaniment is quite notable, bringing an enhancing fullness to the body of flavor throughout the smoking session. As for the Virginia it essentially surfaces as a weaker but obliging complement laying low with a bit of tangy citrus and subdued grassy notes. It did however seem to evince stronger remarking through a cob versus the briar pipe. With that exception, I found inclusively that the tobacco held faithfully true to the described flavor profile to the very end.

In terms of basic mechanical features, Rum & Maple endowed a polished and agreeably mellow character for a standard aromatic. The overall texture of the smoke is creamy and substantially pleasant. One minor observation of note, the rum topping does give a little mid-tongue piercing if smoked too aggressively. Yet, in practical terms this is an easy smoking all-day mixture, and it does effectively represent itself as a nice finishing treat to a hearty meal just for the record.

With the exhausted tobaccos the room chamber is embraced with pleasant sweetness. A comforting aroma of sugary maple Burley woodiness encircles the perimeter accented by some tempered zest. The blue-gray clouds of smoke produced are naturally thick and meaty, a respectable contender for blowing rings as that seems to be in high fashion lately on the various FB groups it seems. Additionally, the Burley dominance helps this blend to be well contained in terms of generated heat, yet the nicotine threshold seems quite docile in its overall effects.

I like it for its objective merits and subjective appeal! The sad thing is this particular Sutliff product had been on my target list for well over a year. In the chance discovery with this trialing, I should be kicking myself for not seizing the opportunity to indulge sooner. Being principally a non-aromatic enthusiast, I standardly keep a limited rotation of aromatics in my coffer of regulars, but tell you what, Rum & Maple is definitely a keeper. If my humble accounting strikes a chord of interest, then I suggest you give it go and see if you concur. 3.5 pipes.

Not being very go with the flow I would say it’s a mild burley smoke with some pleasant maple room notes but little maple on the palate. And no rum. For a burley emphasis I’d go with another. Will probably use the one ounce for blending.

Not very much to say about this aro blend, great maple smell from the pouch, fairly thick smoke with pleasant smell. The thing I like about this one is that it has a nice salty sweet taste , very distint.
