Samuel Gawith Black Cherry
(2.74)
Rich black cavendishes together with a generous amount of sweet cherry generate a room aroma second to none. With satisfaction for both the smoker and the surrounding company, Black Cherry Cavendish is a "must" for lovers of aromatic tobaccos.

This is a very moist tobacco initially and needs a bit of drying to counter multiple relights and pipe cleaner use during the smoke. It has a great tin note but the smoking experience doesn't match it. I have found it very good for mixing with tobacco that has gone a bit dry, I added some to the end of a tin of Old Dublin and it was excellent. I may experiment a bit by drying it out and will add my findings at a later date.

Seemed really bland when I smoked it. I couldn't taste much. I'd actually rather smoke Borkum Riff's Cherry Cavendish when I feel like a cherry tobacco.

Tasty tin aroma, but not the nose bouquet I expected.
The tobacco is soft and moist and very, very black.
Mulltiple relights needed.
Not as ghastly as the artificially flavoured Celtic Talisman which must be a close relative.
Very slight room note. No comment passed by Mrs RH.
I've smoked better and stronger cherry blends and I guess this one is somewhere in between.
Will not be joining the euphoria of earlier reviewers, but will finish the tin.
A few years on and my son has given me a dried out tin of this. I haven't changed my mind. Very mild cherry taste lasts down the bowl, but even dried out this is a swine to keep alight.

Another adventure form Samuel Gawith. As with all their flavoured blends, the high quality of the tobacco itself, makes them work.
The flavouring agent in this case, black cherry, accentuates the quality tobacco-never overpowering the base.
I find this to be a nice change of pace tobacco. Not an all day smoke, rather, a sort of dessert treate for once and a while.
It did need a couple of relights and tamps before settling down.
It burns to a dull-grey ash with a dry dottle.

An extremely well-behaved aromatic. Absolutely marvellous.

A very enjoyable tobacco with a pleasant cherry taste and fragrance. The smell of it in the packaging is lovely.
However, the smoke burnt too quickly and it deterred my from smoking it more often. When I put it away and went back to it I found that it didn't quite keep its moisture and was left with dry tobacco that tasted harsh and ashy.
I recommend it, but maybe only a sample.

I had some bad experiences from straight cavendish blends but none from S.Gawith so i purchased this one.tin description prepares you for a heavy aromatic and probably one dimentional smoking experience.when the tin opens a heavy and natural cherry smell comes out.the blend is black cavendish with a few virginia pieces here and there.the moisture is high and some drying time is needed.packs ok and lights with some effort.several relights are needed through the process.while smoking the flavours are natural and one dimentional.A nice cherry flavour is there from the beginning till the end.some chocolate and toasty notes also support the flavour.virginia pieces give nothing to the taste.generally the flavours are natural and pleasing.burns slow and medium hot to total ash with a lot moisture created at the end of the bowl and the filter.the nicotine level is a pinch above low and thhe aftertaste very nice.room note is natural and pleasant.some tongue bite might appear if smoked fast and hard.though it can be smoked all day it is not an all day smoke because it can be boring.

Top shelf tobacco, very aromatic but not overdone or sickly sweet. Cherry is the tin smell but also smoking experience. Burns well, no bite and minimal moisture. Not a favourite but that's probably just because of the flavour profile, I prefer vanilla, toffee or nuts for my aromatics. That aside, it's good for a change every now and then.

I bought this tobacco when looking for something very light. It is light indeed, while the flavouring is, to my nose, an overkill. It's difficult to burn because of its moisture, and even when dried it remains somehow sticky. It's sweetish rather than sweet. The heavy perfume sticks forever both to my pipes and my nose. I tried my best to get to the end of the tin, but eventually I had to throw it away. I expect only hard core ARO smokers will be able to appreciate it.

A friend of mine, knowing that I'm an avid pipe smoker, wanted to do me a favour by making me a birthday gift of this tobacco. Even though I enjoy an occasional aromatic, I probably would never have bought it myself because of its reputation of being heavily cased.
So it didn't come as a surprise to me, that upon opening the tin a strong smell of sweet cherries fills the room. Although I cannot detect any tobacco scent at all, strangely the aroma does not feel overpowering or artificial.
The fine ribbon cut looks dark brown, almost black and feels rather soft and moist. However, you can still put it into your pipe right away. In doing so, I prefer the Frank method. A god charring and true light will usually do the job.
Black Cherry is one of the few aromatics that actually tastes the way it smells. From the beginning there's a distinct cherry taste, which lasts throughout the bowl, with a tangy sweetness and some nutty aftertaste from the Black Cavendish. There might be some accompanying bitterness at the finish. It's a mild smoke, which makes it suitable for all day, but it's very important not to smoke it too fast, because otherwise it will burn too hot, develop some moisture and bite your tongue. It burns down evenly leaving some dark gray ash.
The room note is sweet and pleasant with a distinct cherry scent.
Actually, I liked this one better than I expected. It's great smoke to satisfy your sweet tooth, especially when it's cold outside. I prefer to enjoy it occasionally for dessert.
