Robert McConnell fragrant blend. I'm especially curious about that one.

Me too! I wonder what the “fragrance” is. Will you update us when you’ve tried it?

That looks fun! I’m curious to know your thoughts on the Amphora Virginia. I’ve looked at it many times but have never tried it.

I smoked it two years ago. I find it similar to Mac Baren Virginia Blend but a tad less sweet. I tried both when I was in search of a nice Virginia for my summer smokes.

I’ve tried, and liked, two of them: Dark Twist and Deluxe Mixture. In fact, Deluxe Mixture was the first blend I bought when deciding to take up the pipe permanently. I bought it by accident, as the tobacconist sent the wrong tobacco! I’d ordered Peterson’s Deluxe Navy Rolls. Still, I enjoyed it, which is what matters. A nice aromatic to ease me into the hobby gradually 😊

That looks fun. Dark Twist will always remain a favorite for me, but always an early in the day smoke, I finds its joys to be subtle and I can’t really taste it after most bolder tobaccos. I like an occasional bowl of War Horse Green, always liked wintergreen. I’m curious what you think of the new to you ones.

Here is even worst. None of then plus all others in the world. I really appreciate the work that some guys here in Brazil are doing putting themselves in finacial risk just to bring good tobaccos to the internet market. Officialy speaking all websites selling tobacco here are kinda outlaw. Thank god now we have some good brazilians blends that costs a normal price. To smoke pipe in Brazil you must have a true connection with the hobby otherwise you will end up giving up.

MacBaren Dark Twist is the only one I've seen in this fascist sh**hole where I live. Sorry 'bout the language but I'm a little sore after growing up in a democratic country.

The C&D Sansepolcro really intrigued me.  Alas, my tobacco allowance has been depleted for this month.  I will be interested in hearing what you think of it!

I’m not in Canada often these days, even though it’s only about a twenty minute drive for me to get to Windsor, ON. However I could let you know the next time I will be and I could bring tobaccos with me and ship them to you from Windsor so there wouldn’t be a problem with international shipping.

Ted, you seem like a wonderful helpful guy and of course that is interesting but I wouldn't want you to put yourself out or at risk in any way. Wouldn't you get dinged pretty hard bringing it over the border? If you're sneaking it over I wouldn't want you getting nabbed.

On the whole, if I had to only smoke what they have here it's not so bad. There's enough variety overall. But some of the blends you folks talk about seem really interesting but there's no chance in hell I'm going to run into any of it here.

Maybe next time you think you're heading over you can give me a heads up and maybe we'll work out some logistics.

Anyway, thx so much for the offer.

I will let you know the next time I’ll be in Canada. I’m legally allowed to bring a certain amount of pipe tobacco with me with no taxes or issues, not sure how much, but I’ve never been hassled about it.

They are the current limited edition series made by Sutliff, the blender was/is Per Georg Jensen. There is only one left to be released. They were the follow up to the previous series, Birds of a Feather. All of them have been excellent, but Episode VI is downright extraordinary.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Good selection! I’ve wondered about Revor Plug, which isn’t sold here in the US, but I’ve had it and smoked it many years ago. I’ve been told it’s different now having changed manufacturers like so many blends and I’ve been curious what it’s like now.

Well my Uncle smoked it in his Falcon in the early 70s and I bet it has changed a fair bit since then. Its a complex smoke for sure and you spend your time wondering if there really is Latika in there or not and also if there is a Lakeland influence 😀 For me its an eveing smoke and I love the taste it lingers after the pipe is over and I don't think the room note is at all bad tbh.

Very cool! I just smoked some more of the Oriental Flake a day or two ago and I was surprised by how much it had changed from only three to four weeks in a jar, all for the good. It’s got me wondering about how the Latakia flakes will change.

I´ll tell you. In five weeks in the jar, the Pesse Canoe Latakia Flake 40 has sharpen flavor and the slight dry / smoked fish note is cleaner. I like it more and more. Today I have smoked a bowl in a Canadian pipe. I cut the tobacco in thin sticks the size of a match stick. This method is described in the G.L. Pease website. It was a very very slow burning, (90 minutes), and a very pleasant smoke. What most surprises me is that after five to six weeks in the jar, the tobacco has the same humidity as the first day I jarred it.  I have to air dry it no less than 90 minutes.

Today, I’m a happy chap! The tobacco I ordered from the States, a couple of weeks ago, has arrived!

Firstly, the Ken Byron Ventures blends:

Spaghetti Western
The Patience of Dr Silence
Raven Eye Flake
Diogenes Club
Mycroft

Then:

C&D’s Sansepolcro

and

Sutliff’s Pipe Force Episode VI

I’m going to enjoy getting to know these over the forthcoming weeks.

I absolutely love smoking a pipe! Starting was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made 😄

Just curious if you had to pay any duty when you received them into Denmark. I was going to buy from the US but not sure if I'd be hit with duty when they arrived into Ireland...

A good question! Yes, I paid through the nose. But, when I add it all up, it’s not much different to buying tobacco in Denmark (which is extortionately expensive anyway).

Another thought: it isn’t going to get any cheaper. So, I see it as an investment. I’m building a cellar any pipe smoker (except perhaps, Ted 😉) would envy, in preparation for tobacco either being made illegal, or prohibitively expensive.

I’m getting there! 😄

Depends in which EU country do you live. All of them have different tobacco taxation. Spain have prohibitive taxation and Denmark seems more reasonable. That´s a great example of how our beloved single market works.

Pipe smoking is a great pleasure. Much more affordable than cigars, wine, fine spirits, fine food...

and the satisfaction is not inferior.

Just received tins of Fox's Campanile & Fox's Banker. Both are very nice but so expensive since I bought them last! The last time I bought pipe tobacco was a few years ago. €38 per tin, think I'm going to have to find a cheaper online place to buy my pipe tobacco!

Cornell & Diehl Dreams of Kadath (from The Danish Pipe Shop! 😮)

Can’t wait to try it! Just look at the component tobaccos: Virginia, Kentucky, Burley, Katerini, Cavendish and Perique! The tin note is sensational. If the taste matches the smell, I’m in for a treat!

(Hmmm… it won’t let me attach a photo. Either it’s my phone, following a recent Apple update, or it’s this glitchy website 🤷🏻‍♂️)

After the shock at the price of tobacco here in Ireland, I hunted out some of my old tobacco tins and found some with small amounts left. So I've put a square of purified water tissues into each tin to see if I can resuscitate any of them! My favourite was and probably still is the Virginia flake from Dunhill & Erinmore, I found them to be identical in every way, including the internal packaging. I must try & find them again to buy more. The navy rolls were delicious too, I need to find them also! The 2 aromatic blends I wasn't so keen on, but I will try them again...

Still with shortage supplies in Spain. New tobaccos are reaching Spanish market. Bentley, Sillem´s and Astley's. None of them inspire me to get a try. Astley´s, made by Kopp Tobacco seems too similar to Ashton range. Same dog with different collar?

The following arrived today 😊:

Cornell & Diehl, Black Frigate (new to me)

Capstan, Yellow Navy Cut (also new to me. I enjoyed the blue one, so… 🤞)

Samuel Gawith, 1792 (extra, as I don’t want to get anywhere near running out! 😄)

Cornell & Diehl, Spark Plug (for a fellow forum member in need 😉)

And, I’ve got 2 pipes and more tobacco on the way! Life can be good, sometimes 😊

Just FYI: (I'm not affiliated in any way, and I hope a link to retailer isn't blocked)
I use KILNER clip-top preserve jars. Their 0.125L (4.2oz) round usually fits a 50g or 2oz tin/bulk nicely. And, as you noticed, the 2.5" labels fit perfectly.

[EDIT: I also use their 0.25L, 0.35L and 0.5L sizes, round for the smaller, and square for the larger.]

Got some more KBV today. I wanted the cat sticker to replace the old one on my Patience of Dr. Silence and I figured why not buy a little more. Plus after reading @Joseph ’s thoughts on it, I had to buy some Hand of Götz to try.
