When you open the pouch there is a vanilla smell, but with a definite pure tobacco aroma as well. The pouch I received was just about right in moisture and was ready to go right out of the box. The best way to light this stuff is with a charring light, a tamp, and then a full light. After that, the tobacco stays lit all the way down the bowl. The smoke is full and the first few puffs remind you of the sweet smell from the pouch. This, however, soon gives way to a straight tobacco taste which is very mild and forgiving of fast puffing. With the Virginia and Burley, the stuff achieves a kind of taste that one might associate with steeping tea in a cast iron pot. I say that the the taste is sort metallic, but in a good way. I would guess that is why it was called Copper in the first place. It is very interesting for a tobacco in this genre. The taste stays the same all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. The ash is fine and jumps out with a knockand the pipe is left dry and ghost-free. The aroma is something unusual for the Captain Black line. The wife absolutely hates it. This is the first Captain Black blend that has not been appreciated. Fortunately, it does not linger. The Nicotine level seems low to me and there is no after taste to contend with. And, one more thing, it does not really pair with coffee as most Burley blends seem to be able to do. Overall, a mild blend perfect for those aromatic smokers looking to venture into Burley-based blends. I can't say that I will buy this again and again, but it is a nice change of pace from the usual Captain Black offterings.
