First Impression:
Granted, I am only one bowl in; I couldn't taste this blend at all. I tried smoking it fast, slow, while lighting to get huge clouds of smoke, sipping for nuances, retrohaling, exhaling out of my nose, etc. At times, I thought I maybe sorta kinda got a hint of something, but it wasn't necessarily tobacco.
The flavoring poked through every once in a while. And from what I could taste, is something like a blend of molasses and... Dates? Figs? At times, I thought it might be flavored by a hint of juice from a maraschino cherry jar. Most times though, the flavor barely whispered at me, and then simply vanished.
I'd say that if you are a huge fan of mild aromatics that are not candy-coated, the likes of 1-Q, this blend would be an easy addition to your tobacco stash. While I generally smoke English, I still occasionally enjoy a bowl of 1-Q or LL-7. I need more flavor than this.
I smoked this in a cob with a pretty narrow chamber. The next time I try this blend, I'll pick my biggest pipe so I can get a lot of this lit at once.
2023-07-08 Update: I tried this blend with about half a year on the jar, and it feels a lot more incorporated. I didn't have nearly the problem hunting for the flavor that I did when this tobacco came right off the blending table. This is a good, mild, approachable blend where the tobacco has been well-respected when adding the flavors and toppings. I see why so many people like it.
However, I like Second Breakfast better. After 6 months with the TCS Middle Earth catalog, I'll re-up Second Breakfast, Green Dragon, and Bag End. I am glad I tried it though.

Dark fruit. anise. I'm a noob to doing reviews. I've been searching for a go to tobacco for a year. This might be it. Intriguing, mellow with no bite or off putting taste. Moist, but, after a few lights it stayed lit. Nice smoke

The best aromatic I've had the pleasure of stuffing in a pipe. This is definitely an aro that wont be favored by a pretentious, overly serious piper who looks down their nose at anyone who so much as looks in any direction away from a classic english blend. But for the rest of us, the tobacco flavor come through, yet still has that hint of sweetness. All while being favorable for those around you.

Country Squire
Tombigbee
(bulk)
Blend notes from Country Squire website: “By far one of our most popular and widely celebrated aromatic blends, Tombigbee is comprised of Virginia, several strains of Burley that have been through the cavendish process. A sweet and creamy smoke that will have your senses traveling down a long Southern road. Carmel, Undertones of Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Nutmeg, Almond.”
Blend notes from Tobacco Reviews website: “The choicest blend of Tobold Hornblower himself! Straight from Middle Earth, Old Toby brings together the finest Virginia and Burley leaves with a generous sugar casing and a dash of Louisiana Perique. A treat for your senses and your companions!”
The blend used to be called ‘Old Toby’ until (according to people referencing unknown other people) the estate of JRR Tolkien decided to contest the naming convention.
Note (above) that the Country Squire notes do not mention Perique, and frankly, I don’t taste any Perique in the blend. I do get the caramel, the vanilla, and maybe some of the nutmeg. Like most or many Aromatics, the base tobacco is some combination of Virginia and Burley.
Tombigbee is a decent Aromatic. It is ‘like’ Lane Limited’s 1Q, Sutliff’s Black Kathy, MacBaren’s 7 Seas Gold (or Black), or Sutliff’s Molto Dolce. The base tobacco is of good quality, the taste is consistent, and there is no harshness.
3.5 stars out of 4 rounded up.

I ended up giving this blend to a friend, and I'll tell you why.. Initially I was impressed with the strong flavor of this blend. It's really sweet, which I love. However, the flavor that most perceive as vanilla, caramel, honey hits my palate slightly different. The sweetness has an element of toothpaste that I can't get past. It's not minty perse, but it has an artificial toothpaste, hand lotion quality that I notice every time I smoke it. The mechanics are good, smokes well, stays lit. Just a weird flavor.
A side note: this taste almost identical to Molto Dulce by Sutliff, but slightly more rich with additional nuance.

"Old Toby... Finest weed in the Southfarthing!" - And the Country Squire definitely created a blend worthy of this claim. Old Toby (now rebranded to "Tombigbee" because the Tolkien Estate has become bullies after Christopher's passing) is the best aromatic I've ever had.
Aromas reminiscent of cinnamon rolls, caramel and some kind of candy leave little room for the notes from the tobaccos themselves to emerge. Contrary to many aromatics, there is no artificial taste, the topping remains consistent in taste and strength throughout the bowl, and it doesn't burn hot or bite even when pushed. Thick smoke and great burning quality although the tobacco is sticky and moist - a quality that neither years in the cellar nor drying can change, so load it up as is.
Will goop and ghost your pipe. Will make the room smell amazing, non-smokers will want you around. A perfect aromatic all year round. But it strikes me specifically like a blend for the holidays. Will always want to have this one around - and I don't particularly smoke aromatics much...

Recently renamed \"Tombigbee\" as part of the Fantasy South series. This aromatic has a delicious tin/bag note that doesn\'t allow much of the tobacco\'s aroma through. Fresh baked crumb cake and sweet liqueur come to mind. The moisture seemed pretty high, but the bowl burned nicely and didn\'t require a relight. The taste is mild and creamy, with a nice full-smoke mouth feel that didn't bite me at all. Really, the toppings are the star here, as they are dominant but very nicely done. I\'m liking aromatics less and less nowadays but this blend is an exception. Very aptly (originally) named as this blend does bring Middle Earth to mind.

First off, the smell out of the bag had me excited to try it. Sweet, with a hint of maple syrup. Wasn't very goopy, and while i didnt dry it, i think it could have benefited from doing so. The char light tasted exactly like it smelled. What is amazing is the bready grass note of the virgina came through complementing the sweet maple notes. I tasted pancakes in maple syrup. Well done Country Squire!

This might be my favorite house blend. Very pleasant and moist with a hint of chocolate overtones. The smell is fantastic. I was surprised. I am usually not an aromatic tobacco kind of guy, but I really enjoyed the over all experience of this one. I can thoroughly see a Hobbit with a pipe down to his furry toes enjoyed this on a fine spring day in the Shire.

What a delicious blend.
It’s nice and sweet while still maintaining some peppery notes from the Perique. The Burley lends itself well to this blend with an added nuttiness and toasted flavor.
Easily an all day smoke that I can see myself reaching for again and again.
