Rattray Accountant's Mixture

(2.79)
Dark and full-bodied without harshness. Great for outdoor smoking. Many strong mixtures are harsh and stringent; Accountants Mixture is truly an outstanding exception.

Accountants Mixture.

This seems to get a mixed reaction, because of that I was really eager to form my own opinion! I find it very enjoyable, it's of a great moisture amount making for very easy igniting and a supremely steady and even burn that requires not many re-lights. The smoke flavour is of a very pleasant balance as it is predominately Virginia with a nice subtle sweetness from the Cavendish and a delicate lively hit from the Latakia but it isn't too heavy with the smoky Latakia flavour that you get with some Latakia mixes. The smoke is not too hot and quite forgiving with tongue bite, unless you strain it too hard. Nicotine level is good as it is not too strong nor light and if you choose to inhale the smoke it causes no hurt. Room note is quite standard for the tobaccos used but still nice and not too heavy.

In all its very suited to my tastes!

Rich, creamy and full of flavor that washes over the palate in waves. The Virginia is deep and rich, the Latakia nice and smoky in the background and the Orientals tantalize the tongue. One of my favorites in a line-up of already outstanding offerings from Rattray's.

As with Professional Mixture, this was also a surprise to me. I am normally a confirmed latakiaphile, and haven't enjoyed either Marlin or Hal o' the Wynd, so I wondered how I would get on with a blend that is purported to be Virginia-heavy. For me, the proportions of virginias against cavendish and orientals (including latakia) combine wonderfully to make a balanced, sweet and sufficiently complex mixture that is really satisfying. Similar to Accountant's Mixture, this could easily be an all day smoke which burns well to the bottom of the bowl, leaving no waste. The different component tobaccos dip in and out throughout the bowl, with a sweet and pleasant room note. My only complaint is that after an hour, it is gone.

I am starting to think that Rattray can do nothing wrong as long as they remember to add latakia. Slow and easy, tasty and something of a revelation. Highly recommended to those who want a gentle latakia blend with sweet virginias.

A nice english, but reminds me more of a lighter Balkan in profile. Each tobacco comes through and is recognizable. The flavors do play nicely with each other, virginias tending to be more forward and latakia taking a background supportive role. Reminds me of a lighter BlackHouse by Russell Oulette Wouldn't consider this a true full English as I smoke it, simply not campfire like enough. Smoke and Sip slowly, this tends to get slightly hot but is extremely manageable and stays lit quite well

Favorite pipe: Boswell Bent smaller egg/billiard

UPDATE 5/312015 Very nice smoke, I wish that latakia was a bit stronger, and tends to be acrid in my itsy bitsy stubby pipes. Corncob does this blend nicely for sure

As a “ Senior” pipe smoker, I have pretty much run the gauntlet that most of us do. This mixture is on about it sixth bowlful in my BC bent today. Despite all the “ bashing” about it being “ tasteless”, and flat for some of us who like an OD of Latakia, I find rather, that like all tobacco- it has a subtle identity. Nonetheless, for those of you who sent get evicted and banished to the garage or work shed when you light up a bowl of Latakia which makes the paint peel and the Irish Retriever flip over with it paws in the air, give this one a try...but do it patiently and slowly with a little Johnny Walker Black... and slowly!

If this qualifies as Scottish tobacco, I like it. Very much so. It is in my top 5 all time. Accountants Mixture is an odd name for such a rich blend. The tin I bought looked like it had been on the shelf for years. Very dusty, and the label was faded. It was the first Rattray blend I have tried. Opening the pop-off tin, I was treated to a dark mixture and a wonderful rich, heavy Latakia, and peaty smell. It was a little dry, but it burned perfectly. I cannot compare it to any other blend, because it tasted different than any I've every smoked. Like many others, I will also say it did have a citrusy, astringent taste. I really love strong English blend and have smoke many. This one is right up there. It is not a silky smooth one and for me it was in the last 1/3 of the can when I really started to appreciate the " different flavor. This review is as scattered as I, and it may not help anyone, but AM has a good, strong latakia and matured Va. flavor, with a good nic kick, and I strongly recommend it, if you want something different in the English blends.

I purchassed a tin of this as I was looking for a good English and this just happened to be on the shelf. Having read many reviews on this brand I decided to give it a shot. I must say I truly enjoyed this tobacco. It has a wonderful smoking ability and flavor. I would compare it to G.L Pease Balkans for similarity. Rich and full of that Latikia falvor we all love to get lost in. Cool and easy to smoke. Only problem is where i live its 30 dollars a tin! Very good tobacco though. Highly recomended .

Rattray's Accountant's Mixture (RAM) is the English blend I almost invariably reach for when I cannot stand any surprises after a long day if I am in the mood for Latakia, or when I do not want anything overly finicky at work (yes I still can *smoke* at the office). RAM substitues oriental tobaccos with unsweetened Cavendish, which makes it a 'Scottish' blend if you are into classifications like that. It has just the mix of smokiness, sweetness and spicyness that I like. Anyway, it tastes good, burns clean and dry and is still complex enough to keep the palate interested. A plain good honest Latakia blend that I really learned to appreciate after the second tin.

I don't know what everyone else was after, but I kinda hoped for a heavier (more Latakia) Red Raparee, and maybe just a touch of sweetness. Bingo. This stuff is great. A little milder than Old Dublin, and a little sweeter, which, IMHO is what would make OD better.

I like this tobacco - very soothing.
