Rattray Accountant's Mixture

(2.79)
Dark and full-bodied without harshness. Great for outdoor smoking. Many strong mixtures are harsh and stringent; Accountants Mixture is truly an outstanding exception.

This is my first go at any of the Rattray tobaccos. I do believe the term "full" may be misleading. The tobacco has a range of color from dark to tan, and the aroma from the tin says English from the first. I find the ribbon cut harder for me to pack and so did some chopping right away.

As to the smoke, well this will never be a full time tobacco for me but I don't dislike it. One feature I found was that it seemed to be very consistant from the first of the bowl to last. I never detected much of a change as the bowl burned down, this I like in some respects.

Bottom line here is this will never be a favorite of mine, but I will keep some on the shelf.

Like many other Rattray EMs, this is as dull and boring as anything you can imagine. A grey taste, with very little variations or pleasant notes. A bit lighter than 3 Noggins, and a bit heavier than Jocks (but less bitey)... and almost just as disappointing!

Accountant?s Mixture is my first exposure to Rattrray?s.

I find AM to be a well-balanced smoke. Not overly potent, something I might have with my morning coffee. It could serve as an all-day smoke as well. Not overly complex, yet not one-dimensional either.

Accountant?s was very well behaved in the pipe, nice and cool. It burned well, and left a fine ash with very little dottle. It isn?t harsh, but there is that hint of an edge from time to time.

The description says it?s great for outdoor smoking, but I have to disagree. I found that being outside, the flavor just didn?t hold its own. Unless you aren?t able to smoke Latakia in the house, you?re better off staying inside with this one.

Accountant?s Mixture isn?t a blend that will take over the world, but it is worth a try. Like the stereotypical ?accountant? as portrayed on TV and in movies; it is reserved, predictable, and unlikely to do anything to really surprise you.

What makes this blend stand out from the rest of the medium english pack is the typical Rattray aroma. This blend smells and tastes to me as though someone took a can of Marlin Flake and added some Latakia and a tiny amount of other orientals. The smell out of the tin is really something for an english blend, but the blend itself is very run of the mill. I prefer Marlin Flake when I want this quality of Virginia. And when I want a good English I will look for it elsewhere as well. A quality blend with high grade leaf, it just doesn't quite do it for me. Typical high quality Rattray fare however.

When I bought a tin of this I recieved the look you usually get when asking for Bolivar Cigars or staight Latakia . "Watch it this is strong stuff". Well I headed home and sure enough the contents looked black and broading. A Full Tobacco Warned the can.

Well Yes its true this is a full on tobacco loaded with the latakia, but somehow this one failed to light my wick. Whats the point in being strong if its not complex. This tobacco did not work on the levels that the best can do and quite frankly getting through 100g of this stuff might prove to be a bit of a chore.

Rattrays Accountants Mixture. My fondest memories of my early days of pipe smoking immediately conjure up having some of this blend in my Peterson. It was heaven. I stopped smoking a pipe for quite a few years and have only recently picked up a pipe again, about 3 years ago. When I did I immediately went out to purchase some Rattrays Accountants Mixture. My tobacconist warned me and said that Rattrays is owned by a different company now and this blend is not as good as it used to be. Boy was he right. This is not the same blend. It is a middle of the road English blend. Nothing outstanding about it. I do not plan on buying another tin of this. It is not a bad blend but just nothing like I can remember. I would rather keep my memories of this blend. 3 stars.

Rattray's Accountants Mixture was one of my occasional blends over the years. I might buy a 4 oz can every couple of years or so, just to have a little different flavor. I recently bought another can and was most disappointed by it. Either now that this is being made by Cohlhacs and Kopp in Germany they have changed the way it is made or my taste buds are different. To me, it is now just another unremarkable latakia blend. There is nothing wrong with it, it simply is just now a rather strong latakia blend and no longer has a distictive flavor.

Quite stinky on opening the can (how do they create that rotten ketchup odor?)and so I was expecting the worst.

Surprise! Took it for an outdoor walk on Thanksgiving and it smoked great. No tongue bite, nice flavor. Had a tight pack in a nice deep bent Urbino, and I had no trouble keping it lit. (For me a minor miracle).Even in the house it was something the kids didn't run from.

So while not the best thing you will ever smoke it is for me a nice non-offensive diversion without being too bland.

Not as dark as the decription would lead you to believe, but a good deal of dark leaf. The aroma was a nice balance of Va., Turkish and Latakia. The flavor was, as expected, nicely balanced and tasty, but not as full bodied as the description. All told, a nce enough blend, but not exceptional to my palate.

A decent latakia blend . Smoked a little hot for me . There are other latakia blends that I would smoke before reaching for this one again though . Not memorable .But not bad .
