Rattray Accountant's Mixture
(2.79)
Dark and full-bodied without harshness. Great for outdoor smoking. Many strong mixtures are harsh and stringent; Accountants Mixture is truly an outstanding exception.

I have to join the chorus and agree that this is a pretty unremarkable English blend of moderately sweet Virginias and Latakia. The Latakia presence is quite mild. The cut of the leaf is fine enough to allow for easy (almost quick) burning. The stuff doesn't bite. It's as mild mannered as the stereotype of the accountant suggests.
And I like it. Most of the people in my life are also mild mannered and unremarkable, and so this stuff fits right in.

This blend is exactly how I thought it would be. Smooth, unobtrusive, but satisfying nevertheless. The Latakia is certainly present, but not overbearing.
This is well suited for smoking while doing repetitive tasks or chores. Like crunching numbers, paying bills, writing memorandums, working in the yard or garden, etc. Too bad most of us can't smoke at work any more. Those days are long gone...
This tobacco arrives quite moist, and will benefit from some drying time. Not an exciting blend, but very soothing.

This blend has a fair bit more latakia than I expected. I am not complaining one little bit!!! The blend also has absolutely no sweetness to it at all. There is not a lot of complexity to it either. The flavors lend them selves to contemplation in other areas. The tobacco is incapable of smoking too hot, and is smooth as silk. There is a fairly strong room note but it is not offensive. The blend smells of leather in the tin, but that smell does not translate into the room note.

Currently working on my second tin of this mixture, I must say I am very pleased with it.
Closer to the typical Scottish blend, because of the addition of a significant portion of rubbed-out black VA flake, this good, honest blend features rubbed-out VA flake,Latakia, a small presence of oriental leaf and the addition of, I suspect, some cavendish. To the nose, it definitely is latakia, black VA and VA.
The room note remains pleasant despite the fair amount of Latakia and the sweet, discreet undertone brought by the black VA makes this blend flavorful and tasty while managing to avoid the border of the overwhelming.
I can understand why most of the reviewers are disappointed because they were expecting a full english blend , as advertised on the tin, rather than a scottish.
But this is what I enjoy from the scottish: the black VA reduces the sometimes harsh aftertaste of the Latakia , consequently reducing the bolder taste that it produces.
Of pleasant note, the black VA will settle down past mid -bowl to let the Latakia take a more prominent place with the VA, making it a more robust, traditionnal english blend, which is perfectly welcomed!

Bought a tin of this blend and I have been quite happy with it.
It is a soothing blend, neither strong nor weak. Good Latikia presence with no bite. Sweet and pleasant.
This is a good blend for when you just want to kick back and enjoy a good smoke without being overwhelmed by flavors or the lack thereof. Relaxing and easy.

This isn't a typical Virginia/Latakia English style blend. The base of this tobacco is a matured, naturally sweet virginia. It also contains unsweetended black leaf. I'm not sure if that is cavenish, stoved virginia or both, but it is dark blend. The latakia in this tobacco is pleasant but it doesn't stand out, and that is what makes it so unique. The blend tastes mostly of matured virginia with a touch of smokiness from the latakia. I like most of Rattray's blends but like the rest of their line, this is not smokable directly out of the tin. I dry this and all my tinned tobaccos for about 30 minutes before smoking, else it will smoke too hot. I'd love to try the bulk version to see if there is a difference. My girlfriend loved the room note.

Great blend of Virginias and Latakia, in a chunky cut. Kind of in the same family for me as Lancer's Slices or Commonwealth, but with more sweetness and less assertive Latakia. Still has a great leathery punch to it. Complex it is not, but is enjoyable. This has mostly been a deep winter smoke for me.

This is my first go at any of the Rattray tobaccos. I do believe the term "full" may be misleading. The tobacco has a range of color from dark to tan, and the aroma from the tin says English from the first. I find the ribbon cut harder for me to pack and so did some chopping right away.
As to the smoke, well this will never be a full time tobacco for me but I don't dislike it. One feature I found was that it seemed to be very consistant from the first of the bowl to last. I never detected much of a change as the bowl burned down, this I like in some respects.
Bottom line here is this will never be a favorite of mine, but I will keep some on the shelf.

Quite stinky on opening the can (how do they create that rotten ketchup odor?)and so I was expecting the worst.
Surprise! Took it for an outdoor walk on Thanksgiving and it smoked great. No tongue bite, nice flavor. Had a tight pack in a nice deep bent Urbino, and I had no trouble keping it lit. (For me a minor miracle).Even in the house it was something the kids didn't run from.
So while not the best thing you will ever smoke it is for me a nice non-offensive diversion without being too bland.

An overall good tobacco, not one that would be compared to be the strongest. I of course expected this, but I was somewhat dissapointed. I would compare this to Dunhill's London Medium. or Estorica's Margate. A well blended tobacco, a good helping of Latakia, probably Cyprian, and Turkish, not to mention Virginia's, and some Orientals. I would not be worried about smoking this one in the house, unless smoking is not allowed. My rating; a 6, in a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best.
