The grassy, citrusy Virginia is the base of the blend. The nutty, toasty burley is a supporting player. The unsweetened back cavendish adds a light sugar note. The chocolate topping is very mild, and the cherry is a little more obvious. The toppings aren’t very strong and lack depth, but they do sublimate the tobaccos, especially the burley. Has very little nicotine. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns fairly cool, and clean at a moderate pace, though the toppings weaken just a little in the last third of the experience. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has an okay after taste. An all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

I am not a tobacco snob. I smoke a lot of Virginia Gold Vanilla. The Cherry Cavendish does not impress me, however. I was willing to give it a chance, because it's available in a 1.25 ounce pouch, not just the nine ounce bag like some Virginia Gold blends. I live in a heavily taxed state, and this costs half at Pipes and Cigars, compared to what Rite Aid charges. Some reviewers mention chocolate covered cherries. I only get a slight cherry flavor when smoking. And somewhat more cherry on the tongue after a bowl. Bystander approved. For the price, give it a try.

This one isn't quite as good as the other VG blends I've tried. It starts off nicely with the Virginias the dominate natural flavor. The cherry/chocolate gives an initial burst of flavor then settles into mild, maybe even a very mild presence. The Black Cav is light but evident. The Burley hardly noticed. I think the problem is the quality of the Virginias. At roughly halfway, if pushed even slightly, they develop a "dirty" flavor. Kinda funky. If you want to enjoy the second half of the bowl you really have to watch yourself. Even with the good price I can only go 2 stars here.
