Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Ennerdale Plug

The plug form of Gawith Hoggarth's biggest selling Lakeland floral flake. A blend of Virginias from Africa and south America with a little Burley from Malawi. The use of Burley and darker air cured tobaccos keep the smoke cooler and bring a woody, creamy texture to the smoke. Complex aromas of Rum, Vanilla, floral extracts, citrus fruit and almond result in a highly aromatic tobacco.

The Virginias are floral, earthy, woody, tangy dark fruit and tart and tangy citrus sweet with a little grass, and are the dominant tobaccos. The burleys are very nutty, earthy, woody sweet in a continual support role. The almond enhancement mildly adds some complexity to the deep fruity tropical topping. The vanilla gently reminds you it’s there when you can find it, while the rum gently underscores the other aspects of the tobacco. The Lakeland essence is very obvious without drowning out the other toppings, though all the flavor additions sublimate the tobaccos to some extent. There are stronger Lakeland blends than this, and it may be that the other sweet additions temper it just a little. I wouldn’t pick for an entry level Lakeland smoker as there are lighter ones to start with, though the sweet level may be the very thing to hook a Lakeland newbie. It will ghost a pipe and a meer, too. The nic-hit is just shy of the center of mild to medium. The strength and taste are just past medium. The plug easily breaks apart with a knife to suit your preferred packing method. The flavorings and tobaccos meld well to create a cool, clean, creamy consistent taste from start to finish. No harsh or weak spots. Burns slow no matter what you do, unless you dice it. Leaves very little moisture in the bowl, and requires some relights. The lingering sweet after taste is very pleasant, as is the room note. Not an all day smoke.

Essentially, this is the same review I posted for the flake version. The only differences I found were that the plug was a little smoother smoke, and that the Virginias have a more fermented taste to their sweetness. The vanilla seemed less obvious in the plug, whereas it’s slightly more likely to occasionally hit your taste buds in the flake cut.
