Peterson University Flake

(2.98)
Peterson's University Flake features a traditional mix of Virginia and Burley tobaccos that are slowly pressed for days into cakes of tobacco and then sliced into delicate flakes. A subtle plum flavor further enhances this remarkable blend.
Notes: Originally manufactured in Ireland by Murray, it is currently blended in Denmark by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.

I have tried this every way I can think of and still can not find anything to get excited about. I found it best ( but still not good) unrubbed and in a very small pipe.

Sorry to begin with a negative sound. I prefer true tobacco-taste above all. So, I don't like aromatics. Sometimes I smoke something with Latakia or Perique... But things like University Flake give me a feeling of nausea. So, no UF for me anymore.

Something of an oddball flake , in that its not really an aromatic , though has some sort of flavoring some sort of fruit licqurice would best describe it . Has someting of a lightness to it and cant really hit the high notes in the taste range. Edgworth slices is much better.

Here’s your usual Virginia and Burley blend made of unexceptional leaf, hence the berry topping. Far too mild, and boring. Not a bad flake tobacco, but for me, an old piper, it’s just beginner tobacco.

A stronger tobacco when puffed fast, which can easily happen when reading or smoking mindlessly since it burns coolly. Strong I don't mind, but the nicotine gets noticeable. I had to check, but there is no perique.

Quite strong flake. It is pretty wet in the tin and therefore somewhat hard to light. In the tin it smells quite fruity and sweet, unfortunately none of these characteristics are found while smoking. It is loaded in the pipe quite easily and catches fire without any problems. It is hard to keep it lighted though, since the tobacco is quite wet. The taste while smoking reminds of strong cigars and is very intense. Too intense for my taste. It lacks the lighthearted sweetness of other virginia dominated flakes in my opinion. I smoked three pipes of that flake after finally deciding, that this one is not for me. I can imagine though, that if you like stronger blends and very intense, deep and dark flavours and are a patient smoker, it could work for you.

I love full virginia flake, I love 4th generation 1932, I love virginia flakes, I love good burley. but this blend… it just turns my stomach. This is at least a couple clicks stronger than FVF and it does not hit me in the head, but in the gut. It also comes very wet. There is a heavy and dank spice to it. Some may love this, I don't. I'm going to let it age for a few months and see if it mellows out. If you love a grassy virginia, don't be drawn in. This is a very dark flavor virginia and I'd swear there is some foul and swampy perique in this. It has that dark raisin plus spice that something like elizabethan mixture (which I despise) carries. You might love this. I didn't. I find it barely tolerable.

Yet another tasteless smoke form Peterson's. Why do I bother with Peterson's blends if they are all tasteless ?

Well, I didn't buy this one out of choice. It was a bonus would you believe when I treated myself to a new pipe from E-bay. I guess on reflection it couldn't actually be classed as a bonus....

Tin-opening aroma reminds me of a pair of old leather boots, past their best. The flake itself is alligned in the tin in neat rows and breaks into ribbons quite easily. I still struggle with packing a pipe. In this case I tried rubbing it out rather than folding.

It produced that slight leathery taste that some folks might appreciate, but all it did for me was remind of 'old men's' pipes from when I was a kid in the 60' and 70's. It needs a lot of relights and in the end I got fed up with it and put it to one side.

Returning to a cooled pipe made little difference it was still a pretty awful smoke.

It says in the description from Peterson's something about a berry dressing. Er....no I think not.Indeed I can find no particualrly redeeming features taste-wise.

It burns hotter than Hades, bites like the Devil and leaves behind a demonic tongue bite, and a vile taste in the mouth.

I certainly won't be trying it again.

I've long since been cured of the " I-like-one-so-I-must-like- them-all" type of manufacturer, and this is no different. Continental processed tobacco is what I would call it. Packaged .. just like MacBaren, presented..just like MacB, Looks ...just like MacB,packs just like.... smokes, just like....tastes, just like MacB, bites tongue just like, makes throat sore.....But you've got the picture. Why some kinds of tobacco affect one smoker and not another is strange perhaps, but we're all different, with different sensitivities to our membranes in the mouth.

I'm getting tired of doing these reviews. All I want are one or two really good wholesome unpolluted tobaccos, and this isn't another of them.

Think of burning sugar, then think what it's doing to your tongue, mouth and lungs.
