I truely enjoyed this blend it was well worht the money and sadly didn't last very long, my wife loved it after some dry time. I can't say it was steller fresh but it really really benefitted from some drying.

It burns nice and even, it draws smooth with no bite, it is suited for inside by the fire or outside by the ice fishing hole. It can be smoked in a car without being overly powerful and offensive. My wife and me agree on my Personal notes which have this as an 8.2 for good quality.

Will it work its way back into my rotation, perhaps only time will tell.

For some reason, no-one in Glasgow, Scotland seems to want to sell my style of pipe tobacco - I can't get any DNRs anywhere now my local specialist shop's shut down, so have been limited to Peterson's University Flake as the nearest I can get so far. The place I buy it from insists on stocking all these cheap and nasty pouches of god-knows-what and refuses to get ANY Dunhill tobaccos in, "in case it doesn't sell". It truly is a sad time for a city that was practically built on tobacco trading. ANYWAY... I decided to try PIW as an alt to PUF. I'm definitely a Va/Per man, which is annoying as there are so many good ones out there and I'm limited to a pathetic selection. At first, I was really impressed by the tin aroma of PIW. It smelled rich and fermented and lovely. I later realised this was a con. First light tastes adulterated and artifical, then it settles down and in the middle of the bowl, for about 15% of the smoke, there's a rich, dark succulence I really like. But the truth is, this isn't a clean or honest smoke. It burns too quick, is subject to goo in the btm of the bowl, and no matter how slowly or carefully its smoked, its a bit nippy and hot. It feels like a botched attempt at a great idea. Anyone out there know any real tobaccos in this style?

This one really took a long time to creep up on me. I opened the tin in fall of 2006, found the smell rather overwhelming but gave it a few tries. I really did not like it at all. There was no taste or aroma of whiskey that I could identify, but some other very strong flavor that actually made me feel queasy. It's not the nicotine as I don't get that effect with Brown Rope, Kendal Dark Shag, etc. I finally gave up on it and put it in the humidor, periodically going back to it and liking it better as it aired-out. Since then I have tried and enjoyed Irish Flake, and having come to like that tobacco I found the taste of Irish Whiskey to be to my liking, as well. At this point most of the strong aroma has passed, and now I can actually detect the irish whiskey. It is a good change of pace for Irish Flake and I think I will likely always want to have some of this on hand.

If Pipestud gives a blend his approval I usually bow three times in the general direction of The Alamo, suck down a Shiner Bock and put Willie Nelson on the stereo.

With this blend I glance in the general direction of Dublin, cross myself with Jameson whisky, drink the whisky and sing Amhrán na bhFiann. This results in quiet solitude in the lair.

Well made tobacco with great raw materials. Good nicotine hit...maybe that put the salt and pepper hue in my chest hair(?), but I doubt it.

The burley component just didn't thrill me, but I can see why burley fans would love this one. It smokes cleanly and with no bite or moisture. I will keep this around for St. Patrick's Day.

By God! The moment I opened the tin, I was struck by a similarity of aroma with Irish Flake! Which, I assess, is explained by the fact that both are Burley dominant blends. Granted my previous experiment with IF, I was unsure of my intentions towards this tobacco. Having faced worse adverse conditions in the past, I mocked myself and filled in my pipe.

I regard IW as being a ready-rubbed and smoother version of IF, regardless of the reality that IW is anterior to IF. And contrary to IF, I get along very well thank you with IW. The tobacco is dark brown, with a faint aroma of liquor and a good aroma of pure tobacco.

The nicotine content is satisfactory, the mixture smokes nicely, evenly and without bite. Mrs First Sealord is quite pleased with the room note. But this is not for neophyte smokers, but for the more experienced group of our noble fraternity. Midshipmen, gain your experience, then you will be able to enjoy this fine tobacco when you will have integrated some leadership!

This new addition to my regular rotation will always accompany me at sea. This represents a high quality burly blend with an incomparable, satisfying, rich taste that is both of pure tobacco and a hint of sweetness generated by the Irish whisky topping.

Highly recommended.

After smoking University Flake for many years, another Peterson offering, I recognized the aroma instantly upon opening this tin. This blend lacks the raspberry-like topping on the UF. This seems like a ready rubbed version of UF without the fruity topping and in its place something else I can't identify, its just that simple. And to my nose and palate there is no whiskey on this weed. This was sort of wet out of the tin so it needs some drying time to smoke well...and though it produces a nice volume of smoke I really don't care for this blend. Lastly, this was pretty expensive at my local shop...12 bucks.

Well this is something different entirely. It's not latakia, or virginia, or really an aromatic. I find no taste of whiskey at all.

The taste is very full and unique. Maybe this is what flue-cured tobacco tastes like.

The sidestream smoke is horrendous -- inhale a whisp of this and you'll be coughing your lungs out. Worse than second hand cigarette smoke.

This is a great outdoors smoke for those who like strong tobacco. For the rest of us, zero stars.

This was a dissappointment, I have to say. I was hoping for a similar smoke to Players Whisky of lamented passing, but its really not up to the ticket.

It smells nice in the tin, slightly alcoholic with some dark fruitiness but when lit it's hot and yet insipid. It's not that its a bad tobacco, its just not a very decent one and for the equivalent, my American brothers, of $17.88 for a 50 gram tin need I say more. Yes that is typical of the horrendous price we pay for the privelage of smoking over in the UK 🙁

I will jar up the rest with some 5100 and leave it for a year or two methinks

I've started with Peterson tobaccos by choosing "Sherlock Holmes" and I tried this one yesterday... Unfortunately, when I opened the tin, I felt that the smell wasn't so pleasant. The problem with this tobacco, is that it says "WHISKEY" but I'm still looking after it ! The whiskey aroma is just inexistent ! Although, the smoking is mild and tolerable, I don't find anything special in this tobacco. Try "Sherlock Holmes" or "University Flake" !
