Hermit Tobacco - Captain Earle's - Reflections.
Because of there not being lots of reviews on this (currently only two) I didn't have much to go on. But as it transpires it's a nice smoke!
Not as Latakia laden as some of the Captain Earl's blends, this is apparent right from opening: only a medium brown kake, not almost black. Preparation's easy, it isn't a kake which is virtually a plug.
Of all the different Captain Earle's I've smoked this is one of the tamer ones. It isn't near the Bomb Territory like some; that's you Ten Russians! The Virginia, Burley/Kentucky form the leading flavour, tangy and nutty. The rest act in more of a 'seasoning' capacity: a touch of Cavendish sweetness, a slight sour note from the Orientals, and a VERY minor smokiness from the Latakia. In general, I find the smoke has a dry feeling. I sense no toppings, it's a wholehearted, natural, flavour. The burn's top notch: steady, consistent, fairly slow, giving a smoke that's below medium in temperature. I get zero tongue bite.
Nicotine: medium. Room-note: nice.
Reflections? Not the best blend ever, but certainly worth more than three stars:
Highly recommended.

Tin note of tangy sour, sweet fruit and spices. Tobacco is a reddish brown and light brown marbled Krumble Kake. Moisture content is good. Kake breaks apart and rubs out with a little effort. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and consistent, with notes of wood, leather, bread, fermented sour vegetation, stewed spiced fruit, sugar, hay, toast, floral, sweet savory, tangy citrus, rich earth, herbal, dry, acidic/spicy, orange peel/zest, a lemon grass background note, and a peppery retro. Oriental/Turkish is leading with Virginias, Latakia and Cavendish supporting. Burley and Kentucky are cheering from the cheap seats. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.
