Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1982

(2.68)
The 1982 Centennial blend celebrates our family’s 100-year anniversary in the tobacco business and I believe you will truly enjoy this mixture. The 1982 is a slow burning mixture, comprised of golden Virginias, sweet and soft mild black cavendish, light burleys and blended with small plugs of navy flake to ease the burning. French vanilla and black berry top dressing is added as a final step, creating an outstanding room note and a distinctive taste experience.

first not a big aromatic person. this is a decent smoke, love the tin and room not. I get a vanilla with a light berry taste. blackberry is too mild to me. I find this brand in general is a bit harsh. wanted to like it more but I just don't. For the price try it and decide for yourself.

There's a berry flavour. Not sure I have the palate to definitively say blackberry. It's tart like blackberries. More like a mix of blue, black and rasp. The vanilla is subtle, but ever present in the background. Lots of floral notes. The virginias and black cavendish are noticeable, light citrus and sugar. The burleys are less noticeable, comparitively. It's like a slice of bumbleberry pie drizzled with cream, honey and tobacco. Similar to Mac Baren Vanilla Cream, without the mouth-melting acidity. Mild in every way. The taste is phenomenal, honestly. Consistent flavour the whole way, no bitterness. Smooth, no bite. Delightfully surprised by this one. I will be procurring more, so don't smoke it all up on me people. Easy 4. Highly recommend. Also, I can read numbers and numerals perfectly fine and did not mistake this for 1882.

Edit: 1 year later this is undoubtedly my favourite aromatic. Like a slice of pie.

I will preface this by saying I am a English and VaPer smoker. Bought this at a rural tobacco retailer in NH where I did not have internet signal. The display rack had this listed as 1882 and the description was of a full-bodied English/Oriental blend. There is absolutely no listing of the ingredients on this 2018 tin - just the date 1982 - which is REALLY similar to 1882. I cracked the tin when I got home (35 minutes away) and was dumbfounded - my nose was hit not by smoky latakia and fragrant orientals, but of what smelled like a smoothie from the local health food market. Disappointed does not begin to describe it.

Oh well, I figured lets try it in a cob, there is no going back now. Tin is 2.25 years old, so it was not wet and a good moisture for smoking. I got through the charring light and then fired it up again. First impressions on charring light were not good - like firing up Fruity Pebbles or Fruit Loops in the bowl. Fortunately or unfortunately (likely the former) there was no taste after that. I dumped the bowl - first time I have done that in the 5 years of pipe smoking and 10 years of cigar smoking. No taste and a complete waste of money.

Here is a suggestion - put the constituent tobaccos that make up the blend on the tin. I get that the warning labels take up space, but c'mon.

As I only bought a 10g sample of this tobacco, I don't feel as though I can give it a proper review.

However, the few smokes I had with it were very pleasant and it left a nice taste and aroma which had a soft vanilla flavour. It burnt cool, but a little bit quick.

Like I said, I don't feel as though I can justify a full review. I recommend it anyway.

If you are looking for a black berry flavoured tobacco, look elsewhere. Yes, there is a very faint berry flavour going on here, but if found the main flavouring agent to be french vanilla, or burnt vanilla. The constituent tobaccos were not totally overwhelmed by the added flavours and gave the smoke a nice warm toasty taste, without creating to much heat. IMO this is a good example of a quality Danish aromatic. It doesn't bite or leave any dampness in the bowl. I plan to buy more.

In France up to now I have found the "1897", the "1957" and this "1892". The "1957" is first class tobacco and deserves 4 stars. As for the "1897" I will give 3 stars to the "1982". In the tin the vanilla flavour is strong and opens expectations. It is a nice tobacco giving a nice smoke but nothing exceptional. The blackberry addition is not easy to notice...

I liked the first tin of this I got better than the most recent. Maybe it was from aging in the tin.. maybe it was the batch? It still has a delicious blackberry topping with a great room note. Tobacco is a little stronger than in some and if you try to puff to hard you will get a little sting. When smoked slowly it offers a more full-bodied smoke than say a Lane aromatic and gives you a rich tobacco flavor in the mouth.. with a little berry on top. This one even though I think it smells great leaves a bit of a tobacco room note but still heavy with blackberry.

Wow, this is my first blackberry aromatic and I loved it. The quality of the tobacco is definitely top shelf. It smoked mild and clean like most Danish style blends. I can't say I tasted much other than tobacco, blackberry and a hint of honey. The tin aroma is intoxicating and the room note is complimentary to a quiet evening with the family. Like all of the Erik Stokkebye tobaccos it is made from super high quality ingredients and there is no drippy goopy mess left over when the bowl is empty.

I like these 4th Generation blends, although this is possibly one of the weakest.

This tin aroma is really pleasant, and gives promise of some sort of soft fruit with a wash of vanilla. I have to say the obvious comparison is with Sam Gawith's brilliant Firedance flake, which I'm surprised other reviewers haven't mentioned.

It can't compete with that iconic blend of course, so what you get is a light aromatic, somewhat akin to Cellini or pick any of Larson's aromatics.

The tobacco is very dry and therefore burns very quickly and rather on the hot side. After a week or so it is as dry as the Gobi desert despite the round tin.

Whatever flavour you were expecting from the tin aroma therefore disappears in the increasing aridity, leaving a very hot, tongue-burning concoction that moulders in the bottom of your pipe. This is even more evil in a meer.

This blend is a bit of a biter, unless taken in a quality briar that has been recently cleaned. I have yet to find a pipe that really suits this mixture, and when this tin is finally empty I'll not be replacing it.
