Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1982

(2.68)
The 1982 Centennial blend celebrates our family’s 100-year anniversary in the tobacco business and I believe you will truly enjoy this mixture. The 1982 is a slow burning mixture, comprised of golden Virginias, sweet and soft mild black cavendish, light burleys and blended with small plugs of navy flake to ease the burning. French vanilla and black berry top dressing is added as a final step, creating an outstanding room note and a distinctive taste experience.

Eric Stokkebye 4th Generation 1982 is the eighth, and last, of a series of tins that traveled from my den to my NASPC tables and back over and over for about four years. I'm opening them to gain insight into why this is so. Let me start by saying that I wish I could say I was as happy with other Danish aromatics I have smoked as I am with 1982. When I reviewed Sutliff Country Estate earlier in this series of test smokes, I felt that past buyers had missed the boat on it. I feel the same about this blend. Opening the tightly sealed tin revealed a nicely verigated pipe tobacco with a range from near-lemon yellow to near-black. Nearly ready to smoke out of the tin, thirty minutes of airing out revealed that there really was a fruit aroma in this Danish blend; probably a berry flavor. Though not in fear of becoming my favorite aromatic, I enjoyed smoking this blend. I have two things to say after that: I wish the range of it's aromas and tastes were wider and it has a tolerable, but strange, room note. In addition to traditional tobacco notes, there was always an odd undercurrent like smoldering, dry grass clippings. I didn't find it so much as offensive, but odd. Blending with this mixture was a positive adventure and, all in all, I can recommend it at three stars.

As I only bought a 10g sample of this tobacco, I don't feel as though I can give it a proper review.

However, the few smokes I had with it were very pleasant and it left a nice taste and aroma which had a soft vanilla flavour. It burnt cool, but a little bit quick.

Like I said, I don't feel as though I can justify a full review. I recommend it anyway.

If you are looking for a black berry flavoured tobacco, look elsewhere. Yes, there is a very faint berry flavour going on here, but if found the main flavouring agent to be french vanilla, or burnt vanilla. The constituent tobaccos were not totally overwhelmed by the added flavours and gave the smoke a nice warm toasty taste, without creating to much heat. IMO this is a good example of a quality Danish aromatic. It doesn't bite or leave any dampness in the bowl. I plan to buy more.

In France up to now I have found the "1897", the "1957" and this "1892". The "1957" is first class tobacco and deserves 4 stars. As for the "1897" I will give 3 stars to the "1982". In the tin the vanilla flavour is strong and opens expectations. It is a nice tobacco giving a nice smoke but nothing exceptional. The blackberry addition is not easy to notice...

I liked the first tin of this I got better than the most recent. Maybe it was from aging in the tin.. maybe it was the batch? It still has a delicious blackberry topping with a great room note. Tobacco is a little stronger than in some and if you try to puff to hard you will get a little sting. When smoked slowly it offers a more full-bodied smoke than say a Lane aromatic and gives you a rich tobacco flavor in the mouth.. with a little berry on top. This one even though I think it smells great leaves a bit of a tobacco room note but still heavy with blackberry.

Wow, this is my first blackberry aromatic and I loved it. The quality of the tobacco is definitely top shelf. It smoked mild and clean like most Danish style blends. I can't say I tasted much other than tobacco, blackberry and a hint of honey. The tin aroma is intoxicating and the room note is complimentary to a quiet evening with the family. Like all of the Erik Stokkebye tobaccos it is made from super high quality ingredients and there is no drippy goopy mess left over when the bowl is empty.
