Peter Stokkebye Black Cherry
(2.63)
Mature Virginia tobaccos have been added to a blend of choice African, Brazilian and other exotic tobaccos. Wide ribbon cut for a slow burn and cool smoke. A fruity vanilla flavour gives this blend the balance in flavour and room note that is desired by some pipe smokers.
Notes: Replaced by Black Cherry Cavendish (No.302).

The Virginias are a little grassy with a very mild herbal/floral note, though they don't show up much until you're near the end. Same goes for the earthy, woody burley: only a little nuttiness peeks through, more so at the finish. Te sugary black cavendish tends to dominate the other tobaccos. The black cherry is fairly pleasant, but diminishes some near the end and gets a little sour. The vanilla is mild. Has little nicotine. Burns wet even with some dry time, and leaves a little dottle. Needs relights. No bite unless you puff fast. Has an okay after taste. Can be an all day smoke.

Black cherry. What more do I say?
Actually, quite a lot I think. This was not what I expected really. I enjoy a nice sweet black cherry tobacco - I can live with a touch of artificiality and the knowledge that it isn't maybe as God intended, but this wasn't so sweet. Smells great, but the cherry taste itself isn't as prominent as I had hoped.
Perhaps I am used to less nicotine in my cherry blends, because the final part of the bowl on the five or six pipefulls I have had so far have left my head swimming. Not sure whether the excessive moisture has meant that I have had to work hard at keeping it alight, and therefore hard smoking has led me to OD on the nicotine, but it is a bit much for me.
Bit of tongue bite too, I'm afraid.
Enjoyed it mostly, hence the star rating, but not so sure I will rush to buy too much more when other cherry blends are more to my liking.
Meh - you win some and you lose some.

Where cherry blends are concerned, this is neither the best of the worst available. It seems to float somewhere in the middle for me.
A black cavendish heavily cased in cherry sauce, the blend has just a bit of a bite and more sweetness than some might like. Better than Lane products? Of course it is. However, it doesn't stand up to the likes of Gawith and Hoggarth Top Black Cherry. Of course, this costs about half as much as Top Black Cherry so that's to be expected.

I just didnt like it. Smells sublime in the bag, makes the whole room smell fantastic and the cute girls will sit closer to you. TWO STARS for that!! But, like many aromatics- I detect strange unnatural nuances, artificial type undescribeables. I must say though, I seldom smoke aromatics, and am not a fan. I will confess this was one of the first tobaccos I ever smoked and burned the hell out of my tounge, and later sogged up a no name briar in ignorance smoking it all day long...So perhaps my scarred tounge has PTSD and rejects it. For the amature... this burns hot and wet so learn patience!

The aroma is ***OVERWHELMING*** when you open the pouch. Do not be misled by the innocent looking pouch. This stuff has some POTENT casing. That being said, however, it tastes pleasant. The black cherry nuances are obviously there, and the cavendish is decent. It has a hint of spiciness to it, but there's more of a sourness I don't especially like that comes from eating cherries..
Towards the middle of the bowl, the cherry flavor intensifies somewhat, but this is a WET smoke. You'll garner a lot of steam with it. You may want to dry it some before smoking it. I'm slow, methodical, and careful with how I smoke, so I don't burn too easily, but rest assured, this tobacco is indeed pretty wet.
At the end of the bowl, there is a bit of a sour taste, but the nuttiness lends itself nicely. I compare it to perhaps eating the crust of the pie last. It's a fine tobacco, though it's far from my favorite.
