The vanilla topping is very mild. I get the typical burley notes: some nuttiness, a little toast, maybe a slight chocolate hint. The black cavendish is lightly vanilla-like. The tobaccos are toned down by the topping. Hardly has any nicotine. Packs easy, burns at a reasonable pace, won't bite, needs few relights, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. Has a decent after taste. The flavor, though suffering from lack of depth, is consistent all the way through. I consider this more of a mixer than a solo blend, but as a solo blend, it's a fine, pleasant, unobtrusive all day smoke to walk around with.

In the pouch, there is a faint vanilla scent and it appears to be about 2/3 black cavendish, There are a few pieces of mostly rubbed out flake. Moisture level is good.

Smoked, it is slightly sweet with a whiff of chocolate and vanilla. There is not much tobacco flavor here, but the burley gives a few nutty and sour notes, and I get the slightly musty flavor I get with some black cavendish. It is pleasant and benign, but there is not much here in terms of flavor. It does not intrude, but there is not much that is very remarkable.

I will say my wife liked the room note and said it smelled sweeter than things I usually smoked. As a mild aromatic that is "den friendly," this is probably a 3. For me it is something I will finish and not order. I am giving it a 2, but it is maybe a little better than that. I can believe there are folks who would love this.

Peter Stokkebye - B&B (No. 23).

The mix is 50/50 black Cavendish and Burley. My pouched smelled completely different to how the smoke tastes, it was almost perfumey, strange! The moisture of my blend couldn't be argued with, which is pleasant for an aromatic, and the ribbons are medium in size.

There's a few references to chocolate in the smoke, and I can concur with a slight note of chocolate, but I'd be more inclined to believe this emanates from the Burley, it's not strong enough to suggest a topping. The Vanilla is notable, with ease, but not strong nor heavy. The temperature of B&B is cool, and it burns reliably. Tongue bite? It takes until the end of a bowl to begin, and that's only when I've strained it too much.

The room-note's nice and the nicotine's mild.

This isn't a bad smoke, but there's lots of better vanilla aromatics available.

Somewhat recommended.

An outstanding flavor of Natural vanilla and chocolate, cool, mild, it gives a lot of dense and white smoke without any tongue bite.

This is an OK smoke. I do get a little vanilla here and there and I can taste the tobacco as it comes through here and there as well. The flavors are very mild but overall consistent. Not a bad aromatic and it smokes fairly dry too. Not much in the Mr. N. department but still a nice change of pace from time to time. I leave this at only 2 stars because while I do enjoy it once in a while more often than not I end up tossing the last of it because it has sat around so long it has dried out beyond repair so there really is nothing that keeps me coming back for it.

Very fine Aromatic! Didn't taste vanilla, tasted more like chocolate / coffee (mocha?). The Burley is high quality. Recommended as a change of pace. Not goopy but will flavor a pipe.

7/8/2005: O.K. for crossover or newbie...

Revised 2021-01-21: I'm dropping this one star as I've found other vanillas I greatly prefer. In addition to the vanilla, there is also a good bit of cherry. The underlying tobaccos also don't seem as interesting as in other Stokkebye's (like PS6 & PS 301). I wonder if the recipes were changed after Eric Stokkebye left to seek other opportunities in 2012?

Original review 2006-06-28: This is a good vanilla, very similar to, but not quite as sweet as, Stokkebye's Sweet Vanilla.

If you enjoy aromatics, this is something you might want to try. Fine for the category. For my taste, it's over the top. For an occasional aromatic smoke, I would add a bit of this to a balkan blend.
