Sutliff Tobacco Company Kasimir

(3.56)
Kasimir denotes status as several Polish kings and prominent military leaders have borne the name. This extraordinary English mixture of smoky latakia, rich Orientals, golden Virginias, and burley could not be more aptly named.
Notes: No longer in production as of mid-late 2015. This same blend is however still available in bulk under the name “Count Pulaski” (who’s first name was, you guessed it, Kasamir! )

This is the aromatic English I was looking for when I tried SG Perfection. The boys at Samuel Gawith could learn something about aromatic English blends from the men at Sutliff.

It's a very pleasant mild to medium English mixture. The leaves are of high quality and the topping accents the orientals VERY well. This tobacco does what Perfection couldn't do, maintain the flavor throughout the bowl. If anything it gets a little bit stronger and thicker towards the bottom and finishes on a very nice note. The topping on this really help eliminate any sharp or ashy flavors from the orientals and produces a wonderful experience. There really is a nice interplay between smoky, sweet and slighly spicy flavor profiles going on.

I don't get any tongue bite with this blend but rather just enjoyable puffing. Easily an all day smoke and I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking to see what an English tastes like. I will be purchasing more of this.

The tin note is sweet, rum and anisette are really pushing the boundaries of what I smelled and tasted, however. "Lightly-spiced marshmallow" is more descriptive, to my tastes. As the smell is sweet, the flavor mirrors this, being fairly sweet, and fortunately not overly-so. There is a touch of latakia, and it tastes more like the rough-around-the-edges Cyprian type than the Syrian, although I have had Sutliff's cyprian taste closer to syrian before. It is just a touch though, maybe 20%, I feel that it's somewhere around there. The sweetness is not off-putting nor are the flavorings, and I think it actually does well to compliment this smorgasbord of tobacco's in the blend. I'd recommend it to the aromatic smoker wanting to try something a little heartier.

Never on the shelves of shops in my area and never appearing in my buy outs, I finally found three tins of Kasimir by Sutliff in my latest acquisition. Wondering what the hay this blend could possibly be like, I ripped one open in anticipation. I wasn't ready for what I found; a very rough mixture that is about the roughest I have seen in many years. Why Sutliff felt this was necessary, I don't know, as it has engendered some thorny little issues. There is no way you can take the tobacco in my tin out, push it in a pipe and light it; it is way too rough for that. Rubbing-out is a real chore with this blend and I failed to get the job properly done on my first bowl. Smoking that first bowl was an equal chore to rubbing it out; many tamp downs and many relights dulled the enjoyment. On my second bowl I was more diligent in rub-out and the smoke was more rewarding with less relight annoyance. Now, enough of that, as I rather liked this blend aroma and taste wise. Kasimir is a medium English with a Burley kick in the seat of the pants in the bottom third of the bowl. Every bowl smoked in the same pattern; more than okay in the top third, sagging sadly in the middle third and coming to a Burley-dominated conclusion in the bottom third. I like this blend well enough, but, a four star blend would not sag so consistently in the middle and the arduous struggle to rub this blend out adequately yields a recommendation at three stars.

At first I didn't take to this blend. But after jarring it for a few months it really shines.Very mild English with nice Latakia,Virginia and Burely as well.to me it is an indoor Latakia. It has a wonderful sweet aroma from the tin and after aging a real nice taste.Room note is.. well an English so good to some bad to others. What struck me most was at least to me how much this blend kinda reminded me of Blue mountain.I will have to A/B this to be sure but at this point it is an interesting cost saver if my thoughts are on point. In the end it is better then you think it will be.
