Blind test #2 and based on about 1.25 ounces. Mixed cuts reminded me of C&D but this didn't taste like one of theirs. Kind of a grass-like sour oaty and peaty bag aroma that was interesting. I never came close to guessing this blend or its blender.

In the pipe this showed itself to be a tasty if kind of shallow VaPer and my notes wondered if there were any OTC VaPers in the market. The Virginias were kind of non-descript and the perique was spicy, while on various occasions would provide this burst of pepper that I enjoyed. It seemed to have a pretty good dose of perique and it wasn't until I found out what it was that I learned that it had "two cuts". I'm not quite sure what that does, but ok. I would never have guessed this as Sutliff because their signature chemical synthetic flavors that I and many other smokers object to were completely absent. And that's a good thing! This tasted thin of body but rich of flavor and if you just like a good tasting VaPer, add a star to my rating. 2 stars often doesn't mean "good" but this one was - I'd actually go 2.5 on this. In fact, I should probably upgrade to 3 stars. I'm no expert on Sutliff blends but I have smoked a good number of them and this strikes me as the best thing they've ever done as far as their own recipes go. Eventually my sense of that accomplishment will outweigh my own tastes and I'll probably award a 3rd star. 🙂 Great for a beginning VaPer smoker or someone who wants a good tasting smoke that won't intrude on his thoughts. I won't buy any but I enjoyed my time with it.

This one just didn't do much for me. I found it very light all around. Light on the perique and very mild Virginias that brought a little sweetness, but this one left that kind of cardboard taste that is a turn off for me. There are some of my forum friends that like this blend a lot. Several of which have given their opinions above and below. In a world filled with several notable vapers, I think this one fails to leave a mark.

Not for me, but out of respect for those who like it and the fact that there is nothing repulsive about it, two stars.

All I can say it's a pleasant but spicy light virginia with a nice dose of perique. Lighter virginia than Pease but better quality than DR. Much better than I thought this blender could produce. Not bad at all for its type. You must like perique though to favor this one.

I purchased this on a lark after reading the description on line. A vaper from sutliff? And anniversary blend at that? I thought this would be interesting and I wasn't disappointed. The tin arrived at just about the right moisture level for my tastes so I loaded up a bowl and fired it up. I was immediately assaulted by the Perique spice with little if any of the VA sweetness present. However after a few puffs of what I can only describe as raw pepper extract things settled down a bit and this turned into a well behaved bled. This was my experience with e every bowl of this blend. An initial sensory assault of spice that faded quickly to a well rounded balance of sweet and sour with a under current of spice. All that being said this is a middle of the road blend an there are better offerings out there such as C&Ds Bayou Morning. I can't say that I won't buy this again but it won't be first on my list when a good vaper is the order of the day.

Like other reviewers, I was intrigued by this mixture's description on the tin - two cuts of Perique? On opening I found a reddish-yellow uniform mixture of medium cut but not many of the darker strands of Perique that I expected. It smelled somewhat hay-like with very little depth in the tin aroma and not at all like other VaPer blends I have smoked. This concerned me and I had visions of this being a lite smoke. I was right. 1849 smokes like a cigarette tobacco and, in fact, brought back memories from the early days of my teenage smoking. Then it hit me. This blend smoked with the aroma of Old Golds; you know, the old style unfiltered short ones we used to buy from the machine in the lobby of the local YMCA when we were 15! Now, every now and then, I would get a whiff of that more solid toasted tobacco flavor of old(gold) but it was fleeting. I rolled some into a cigarette and puffed it and, yep, it was a cigarette all right. Unfortunately, the Perique in the blend made me break out in a sweat on my forehead, so I ditched it and won't be doing that again. As a pipe tobacco it comes up really short and I agree with reviewer TallPuffO'Burley 2015-02-25 that I can give it two stars because there's nothing actually repulsive about it.
