I recently tried this as my first English blend on the recommendation of one of the guys at McCranies. After getting used to it, I've had some very enjoyable smokes of this, including some out of an old Venturi pyrolitic graphite pipe (I know, I know).

I'm continuing to try other Latakias, some of which are more interesting, but I think this one does what it's supposed to; it has a full flavor and smokes cool. The smell in the bag is like campfire embers with none of the ketchup-y smell common with other Englishes.

The room note ranking comes from the comments of my wife, who said it smelled like burning leaves (what's tobacco smoke supposed to smell like?). She actually closed the door to the porch mid-bowl, which doesn't happen often (ah, silence). A good tobacco, particularly as a starter English. But not a crowd-pleaser.

An interesting play off of preconception vs. reality. The name Coyote suggested to me a slightly rough and raw blend that may just sneak up and bite you. Something a grisly prospector would clench between his teeth in a corn cob...

Quite to the contrary: first samples indicate it is a mellow and sweet/nutty latakia blend with a bit of VA for body. Quite different than what I expected. A bit huskier towards the end of the smoke with a fine musky flavor. But never sharp or nasty.

McCraine's really surprised me. For the "home grown" company feeling of their site, this blend ranks up there with other English/Balkan styles I've tried. Is this blend particularly mind-blowing or arcane? Not really - but it was a pleasant 45 minute Latakia smoke that could be all day if you like this sort of tobacco.

Good burning qualities - even and substantial -very little in the way of hotspots or bite. Abundant flavor and sweet aroma (but not artificially so).

--Update--

After two months of drying and maturing, and periodic smoking - I've found Coyote to be a truly pleasurable smoke. It is very deep - perhaps even rivaling Nightcap in that area. It is not however as complex and full bodied as that and other more well known latakia powerhouse blends. Sometimes, however, you feel like a pleasant predictable ride, instead of a journey into uncharted territories.
