McClelland Frog Morton
(3.24)
An exceptionally dark, rich and full Latakia Mixture designed for those who desire really satisfying Latakia flavor but want a pipe tobacco soft enough to smoke anytime. It took Frog Morton four years to perfect this unique blend designed for smoking in quiet serenity. It is his proudest achievement.
Notes: The name Frog Morton comes to us from the works of JRR Tolkien. Frogmorton: A village in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. It stood on the East Road, between the Three-farthing Stone (fourteen miles to the west) and the Brandywine Bridge (twenty-two miles to the east). Immediately to the north of the village, the stream known as the Water broke into two, creating a wide watery region - this feature seems to have given Frogmorton its name, which means "frog marsh".

Let me start out by saying that I am a big fan of McClelland tobaccos English and Virginia tobaccos. Frog Morton however, is unusual and has some type of top note or casing. I was surprised to find that very few noticed this and pointed it out in their reviews. The flavoring is overwhelmingly sweet and isn't a flavor I care for. This is a very light English blend that aromatic smokers might enjoy but won't be enjoyable for English enthusiasts.

I smoked about 50grs of this out of a 100gr tin. Then I came here to check the reviews; I must have gotten a different tobacco. What I have is a coarse cut, extremely oily tobacco which is hard to light and keep lit. Maybe because I am smoking this in small/medium pipes?
Tin aroma is of course ketchup and almost overwhelming but upon lighting it has smoky, oily, leathery almost salty property while having a great taste. But low in nicotine, not my cup of tea really as I would like a bit more vit N.
A mild and low nicotine latakia blend which tastes great. If that's what you want; go wild!

Great room note. But mild taste. Needs lots of dry time before sparking IMO.

Stopped by the local shop to get some supplies,(pipe cleaners, tampers, etc..) and noticed a tin of Frog Morton sitting above the jars. I had read and been told it was an exceptional blend and decided to give it a try. As you might have heard it does have a full yet somehow mild taste to it, burns very well(maybe a little slower than your typical blend) and is rather even throughout the smoke session. I do believe this is an accquired blend however and will not be putting it in my rotation, it is just a bit salty for me.

Aroma/Flavor: Savory, strong soapiness, smokey, herbal aroma with a lingering lighter fluid-like aspect. Despite my description I find the aroma to be very appealing. It reminds me of a flavorful Italian pasta with an herbal tomato based meat sauce.
Body: The body is incredibly light. To my taste it's far too light. This is my only criticism of this tobacco.
Smoke: Smoke is billowy at packaged moisture. I did have to relight several times, but the nice billowy smoke was well worth the effort.
Nicotine: For those looking for a good nick hit, you'll have to search elsewhere. This smoke is very mild on the nicotine.

This was my first English blend that contained Latakia, and I guess I wasn't prepared. From all the positive reviews, I expected this to be a truely wonderful smoking experience. I was more than a bit disappointed. Now, to be fair, I generally prefer aromatics. I like the ambiance and atmosphere created by a pleasant aromatic room note. This stuff was just flat out stronger than I'm used to. The smoke is thick, and to my tastes, acrid. The third time I tried it, my wife was in the room, and she is not typically bothered by my pipe smoking, as she smokes cigarettes herself. After only half a bowl, she actually begged me to put it out and smoke something else. She said the smoke made her naseaus and made me promise never to smoke it near her again.
Honestly, I know alot of people love FM, but perhaps I'm not experienced enough yet to really enjoy it. I'll keep a tin around for the occassional smoke, but I doubt seriously this will be one in my regular rotation.

While I don't really care for Mississippi Mud, I do like Frog Morton. But, it's not an everyday blend for me. If I'm looking for a non-aromatic, I'll typically reach for Squadron Leader first. Don't mix this one into any pipe that has primarily seen aromatics. Will leave a ghost behind.

A balanced english blend. It has a good amount of latakia to give it a flavor that is rich and not at all harsh, but smooth and sweet. Nothing too special though, just straightforward english.

UPDATE: The Frog Morton tobaccos are designed with cob pipes in mind. Both FM and FMOTT are one-note symphonies, but that note in a cob is pretty damn good. FMOTB is a three-note symphony in a cob, but only so-so in a briar. FMOTB in a cob is a truly transcendent experience. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Have not yet tried FMATP.

Mild, sweet latakia, with a hint of chocolate.
That's the idea, anyway, and the execution is spot on.
This is my first froggie -- the other three are waiting in the queue -- but my feeling so far is that this is training wheel tobacco, great for the beginner, but you're going to outgrow this one, fast.
Also leaves a fair bit of goop in my pipe afterward.

As a fan of Hobbit folklore, I expected a lot of this tobacco. Since Hobbits are baccy fiends, IMO, FM should be the epitome of a medium to strong natural tobacco that is so delicious that I become a FIEND for it. It hasn't happened yet. Granted, I've only smoked 5 bowls, so maybe I will later find that it is worthy of it's name....
