Lane Limited RLP-6

(3.07)
Blended with just the right proportion of golden Virginia and burley, the basic blend of toasted cavendish tobaccos takes on a zesty dimension. This mixture gets better as you smoke it all day long.

You often hear people talk about aromatics being smoked for those that are around them rather than the smoker themselves. For me, that is this tobacco in a nutshell. My palate was unable to find many flavors in this tobacco besides a mild creaminess.

This is a middle-of-the-road tobacco for me, I don't find the flavor bad, nor did it ever misbehave and cause bite. I found nothing exceptional or stand out about this tobacco.

The ribbon cut is quite varied in shapes and sizes according to the tobacco, making it a bit challenging to pack. The humidity is excellent so there's no need for prepping. The bag note comes out strong, much like opening a bag of licorice.

Pre-draws are sweet with molasses. The first few stokes are dense with flavors. There's a light brightness to the Virginias around the tongue. The blend lights up, burns consistently, and stays lit with ease. Sugary, honey-like and sweet? Yes, especially when you slow down. Creamy? Very much so as you draw it in. It lingers on the palate, which a rich umami that comes up with every draw. Molasses? They're there next to the tongue and on retrohale, and are constantly present with a tinge that resembles liqueur. The Burleys add a note of citrus that sits behind the rest of the flavors. As the bowl progresses, the flavors come down a bit and the Virginias and Burleys take a front seat. A mix of cavendish seems to keep things rounded.

This is a satisfying aromatic blend. It's easy to smoke, rewards you with a delightful mix of flavors, never bites, and spreads a nice room note.

I liked it ok, better than 1Q. It had much more pronounced flavor in my smaller briars, than my large cobs. Like Capt.Black regular, I typically get ton's of compilments wherever I may be. Sitting in a parking lot smoking, I have had people search me out because it smelled so good to them. Capt. Black reg is the only other pipe tobacco that that has happened to me on. To me this has a more toasted marshmallow flavor in comparison to tinned capt. black, but they are strikingly similiar. I have read they are the same except the liquid preservative, but there is definitaly a slight difference in taste. Not so sure about odor, based off of comments.

Update: Flavor varies considerably from different retailers. Cup o joes was more "toasty marshmallowy vanilla" compared to Pipes and Cigars which was more "honey vanilla" Not bad, but an easily discernable side by side taste test.

One of my favorite aromatics. Excellent cut, packs easily, burns perfectly. Great tin note and an excellent room note. Flavors are fruity with a slight vanilla hint. I'm a huge fan of this one and will keep it in my rotation for years to come!

Not too sweet but very delicious. Nutty tobacco flavor easily comes through the casing which is not overwhelming to begin with. I can smoke this all day with no adverse effects on my tongue, even with enthusiastic puffing. It's my favorite bulk aromatic and very reasonably priced. There are other tobaccos I enjoy very much but this is one I keep coming back to.

Nice flakes of brown and dark brown. Taste is dark and not smooth. Almost like cigar tobacco. Two Stars being generous.

For a Four star Tobacco try McClellands new RSVP.

It was raining and cold the night I stumbled into the smoke shop. A cob and RPL-6, quick!! Shaky, I asked the owner for a light, Ah, heaven...

We shared a two floor walk up in New York City for 22 years. Only had a tin foil pipe. Smoked dust balls and fabric lint, with matress stuffing for spice. Used to climbed on his shoulders, lit the pipe with the heat from the only ceiling light. The flavor was rich, elegant, refined, and exquisitely balanced. But will add some hair in the next bowl. Hid the pipe in a body cavity when guards searched the cell. Twenty two years at Rikers Island. Doing time for tax evasion, for smuggling pipe tobacco. That is how I came to be smoking RPL-6 that rainy night after my release.

On that night RPL-6 was so good it seemed to come directly from the right hand of God. Now, other blends occupy my time, though it is still one of my favorites.

This tale could be in our future if the tax bill passes. Fight the tax bill!! You really want to pay $45 a pound for this stuff?
