Alot of the reveiwers mistakend this for Capt. Black Cherry which is a newer blend. This particular blend is called Capt. Black Supreme. It's a bland weak burley with a nice aroma.

I'm a big fan of Captain Black - white. That being said, this stuff is horrible. The smell reminds me of cherry scented urinal cakes. The taste...well it tastes like they took "the cap't white" and coated it with the same urinal cake (all though that may be an assumption on my part -not ever tasting urinal cakes and all).

If you?re a fan of CHERRY you might like this stuff. I guess I'm just not a fan. The sad thing is I bought a package of the stuff, and I'm too cheap to throw it away. Any suggestions on what else to do with it?.. maybe fertilizer ?

I may need to eat some crow. Yesterday out of pure boredom. I RE-TRIED "Cap't Cherry". I thought I threw it away but found it in the bottom of my tobacco stash. It was very dried out,so dry I wondered if it was still any good. I thought what the heck. I packed my corn cob and away I went. It was tough to pack for some reason. There was a slight, very slight smell of cherry. Once lit I never had to strike another match, it burned well. I hate to admit it but I actually enjoyed the smoke. I'm still not a fan of cherry tobaccos but I will finish my pouch. I don't think I'll ever buy another pouch---but it was good. If you like cherrys buy Cap't red and let it dry out for at least a month and you'll have a fair smoke.

As the alias implies, I am still a gumshoe when it comes to pipe smoking. I have something of an affinity for Cavendish, especially black Cavendish. Here goes:

This blend seemed to have the cherry infused with the tobacco, unlike a lot of other cherry blends I've smoked, which seem like the blender just threw the casing on as a last thought. Smelled very nice in the pouch, with just the right amount of moisture.. Packed well and lit well, charring light too. I only had to relight once. It might be the way I smoke, but this blend was a little harsh on my throat, although I received no tongue bite throughout the ENTIRE smoke. An all around good everyday thinking smoke. Go sailing with the Captain; you'll enjoy his company.

Normally I don't care for cherry tobacco or cavendish blends like this, but having a few fond memories of the original Captain Black, combined with the fact that I haven't smoked any CB in a while and I saw a somewhat favorable review in P&T, I gave in to the temptation to drop $5 and give this a try.

First of all, I'm not entirely sure if Captain Black Cherry is the same as Captain Black Red. The name on my pouch says "Captain Black Cherry" and the description says "cavendish blend with a rich cherry flavor. exceptionally mild, delightfully aromatic." I'm pretty sure I've seen a red pouch of captain black somewhere that didn't say "cherry" on it which had a description like the one above ("A rich blend of Burley tobaccos. Smooth smoking, delightfully aromatic and zesty.") Either they changed the packaging or someone has this confused.

Anyway, to me this stuff smells and tastes like someone took a few pounds of burley and virginia with a little black cavendish thrown in and then dumped a bottle of cherry-flavored tylenol liquid into it. Someone said there was some vanilla in here too, but either I don't taste it or perhaps the vanilla is whats making the cherry seem so medicine-like. Aside from that its just another relatively mild aromatic with the characteristics that you'd expect.

I smoked a few bowls in corn cobbs and one in an old Dr Grabow so I wouldn't pollute my good pipes with this stuff.

If you want to try this, I recommend spending the $5 on a bottle of cherry tylenol instead. That way you'll get pretty much the same flavor and its more likely to cure any pain you might have rather than aggrevate it.

Like the above reviewer, I saw this in an older issue of P&T magazine, and the urge hit me to try a pouch. I've never liked any of the Captain Black blends, even as a new smoker, so actually went into this blend with a bad state of mind. The pouch aroma is very very cherry and you could smell it through the vacuum sealed baggie it comes in. The cut is fairly long and odd, and was harder to pack than most blends I smoke. It's a mix of bright orange and some black, with a lot of stems and what seemed to be low-grade tobacco. Needless to say, I was not impressed but the pouch aroma was nice, so I went on. The blend took a few lights to get it going right and burned fairly well all the way down. I actually came to like the smoke because it had more complexity than the other CB blends. It started off nice and mild, sweet, with the cherry flavoring coming out more so in the aroma than in the taste. It actually tasted a lot like a Danish Style aromatic moreso than a drugstore tobacco. During the bowl, the flavor picked up and turned a bit stronger and the vanilla hints came through strong at the bottom of the bowl. There was no bite and it took 4 swipes of a pipe cleaner during the smoke. Amazingly, I smoked this down to barely any dottle and it actually left the bowl walls dry except in the heel. I'll certainly finish this pouch off (in the same pipe- it sticks like Erinmore) and will try it in a cob next. Overall, I liked it quite a bit which really surprised me.

Ok, let me start with a disclaimer -- I am a new pipe smoker. I don't have all the nuances of tobacco down yet. I'm reviewing because as a new pipe smoker, I never found any reviews written to my level for the novice. Here goes. I like Capt Black Cherry. I tried it because of the review written in Pipe & Tobacco magazine in issue 3 of 2002. It was described as more CHERRY than other cherry tobaccos. They are right. I've tried Middleton's Cherry and couldn't taste any cherry. Capt Black Cherry IS cherry. It lights easily, packed well in my pipe, and after the charring light, I had no problem keeping it lit. I smoke on the faster side, which means that I have to watch out for tobacco bite. This one can bite just a bit if smoked fast, but was not bad enough to stop. Smoke is nice and thick, and the ash was white and grayish. I could actually smell the smoke AS I was smoking, which is a big bonus in my newbie opinion. It does have a vanilla tint to it, but there is definitely more cherry in this blend than other cherry tobaccos. The room aroma is nice, but doesn't linger long or leave the room full of cherry. This is THE cherry tobacco for anyone who likes cherry.

Like all the Captain Black vanillas except with cherry added.

Too much vanilla and too much cherry for me.

Ala malt in a pipe.

Captain Black Red ? is of cherry flavored variety. Like all CB's it is still has a pronounced vanilla flavor, even with the cherry flavoring. It's a very mild smoke, with no real bite. Though the cherry flavoring seems strong in the pouch, it's rather mild when smoked. If you like a mild aromatic smoke with a taste of vanilla and light cherry, once in in awhile ? you cannot go wrong CB Red. The other plus is room aroma, as with all CB's ? folk's seem to like it.
