Lane Limited 1-Q

(2.78)
Basically a golden cavendish blend but with a hint of fire-cured blended in provides scintillating taste and flavorful aroma.
Notes: Despite confusion caused by persistent rumor, 1-Q is a Lane product and a Lane invention, sold by many brick and mortar shops under many names, including 'Wilshire' by the TinderBox stores.

Ahhh...the ubiquitous and infamous 1Q. It seems as if people either like this stuff or hate it. Well, I happen to be one of the people who like this stuff.

What more can I say that hasn't been said already? 1Q has a very mild yet nice aroma/flavor. Pouch aroma is also nice and mild. There's nothing outstanding about this tobacco, but it's just a nice, mild and simple tobacco. I can see 1Q as being a good standby in my regular baccy rotation.

This seems to be "the" ultimate ubiquitous vanilla blend. While not suited to my tastes, I do agree that there is something here for neophytes. It packs and lights easily and has been known to please a crowd. IMHO- call the tobacco police, someone spilled the proverbial vanilla extract yet again.

Like many people who smoke pipes this was a starter blend for me. I think it is ok for the beginning pipe smoker in that it smells good and burns fairly cool. I do not like these kind of blends any more and lean torwards virginia, perique and english blends. I am not going to bash this in that many pipe smokers enjoy this, especially new ones or people who prefer aromatics. I will say that I probably wont smoke this again due to my change in tastes.

I agree with omegapd that this can be seen as a stepping-stone smoke, between the drugstore brands and the better blends.

It has a delightful smell in the bag and a very strong taste which I would describe as chocolately rather than vanilla. Room aroma is very nice, and garners somewhat more positive comments than the average aromatic. It can burn a bit on the hot side, and as others have said, leaves a lot of goop in one's pipe.

I find the taste to be very nice, but stronger than it ought to be. I'd like this tobacco much better if the flavoring was toned down about 40%.

I do enjoy this smoke occasionally, either in the morning with coffee or after dinner. Too sweet to be a regular smoke, for me it's good for a pipe a week or so.

Yuk! OK, maybe that is too strong. Bland. Is that better? Some have suggested that this could be a stepping stone between drugstore blends and quality tobaccos. While I believe 1-Q maybe falls in this in-between category, in terms of quality, I do not subscribe to the stepping-stone philosophy. Step directly to MacBaren's Vanilla Cream (being aware of tongue bite) and have done with the middleman.

Like so many others, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I know this stuff as "Checkmate, the final move to the King of tobaccos." The flavoring was described as vanilla w/a hint of coconut. Sold quite a bit of it at one time. By all means a very popular bulk blend, nearly every smoke shoppe has it w/another name tagged to it. Smoked this off and on for a while, but these days I just don't deal w/flavored tobaccos of this style. Guess my tastes have changed considerably. Mind you, I'm not knocking it. Like other blends it has its place, and many puffers may still swear by it and that's fine, but I don't think it will have a regular spot in my cabinet. May try it for old times sake someday, but I'm in no hurry. No longer works for me.

My son and I went into Tinderbox a couple years ago and incountered the very very pleasant aroma of Wilshire. This is rare for me to really like an aroma enough to purchase an ounce or so. I normally stay clear of "candy smelling" tobaccos but this one got me.

Upon getting home and lighting up, Wilshire was smooth but the taste could not match the smell. After some trial runs, I gave the rest away. It did not have enough to it to keep my interest.

A very good beginner smoke.

Like every other young kid who wanders into a pipe shop, I've smoked my share of 1-Q. (Luckily, that share was not large.) 1-Q smells good either in the pouch or as smoked. That's this tobacco's strong suit. It doesn't burn particularly well and leaves a fair amount of goop in the pipe. This is probably OK for beginners, but even there, certainly there are better choices. (Pease Barbary Coast for one, Mac Baren Navy Flake for another.)

On eof the tobaccos that got me started as a pipe smoker . Highly recommended for the beginner smoker or lover of aromatics . Can become wet and goopy , but that goes with the territory . Good for smoking in public .

Currently my personal favorite, Wilshire is one of the least biting aromatics out there. Flavor-wise it has a hint of chocolate when you first light up. It's also one of the tobaccos that definitely tastes better than it smells out of the pouch. From a second hand impression, it has a slightly nutty chocolate smell. It's a big hit here. Wilshire is a ribbon cut that smokes long and easy. Highly recommended.
