Lane Limited 1-Q
(2.78)
Basically a golden cavendish blend but with a hint of fire-cured blended in provides scintillating taste and flavorful aroma.
Notes: Despite confusion caused by persistent rumor, 1-Q is a Lane product and a Lane invention, sold by many brick and mortar shops under many names, including 'Wilshire' by the TinderBox stores.

Good for beginners. I like BCA or the Bulk Capt. Black mixed with ammeretto better. This blend tends to get hot, I hate hot smoking tobacco! Nicotine factor is low, one pipe won't cut it. This is sold at almost every pipe shop that makes {so called} custom blends. Flavoring is that of vanilla and coconut. If it were cool smoking I'd say it was a good tobacco.

1-Q is always in my rotation due to its easy taste that can be enjoyed anytime. I enjoy other aromatics better(Autumn Eve, Bluenote) but 1-Q IS Sweet, flavorful...kinda, but hey, I enjoy it. I give it as a recommendation to novice smokers, and people looking for something that is very easy on the palate. 3.5 out of 4 stars.
Update... I cannot seem to enjoy this blend as much.I get this vanilla taste that is awesome but it is followed up by a burning plastic taste. What the heck? I still say that novice smokers should start here. But don't think 1-Q is a representation of how amazing some tobaccos can be.It is just a very weak tobacco. 2 out of 4 stars.

Being a pipe smoker that likes a strong sweet flavor with a robust aroma. This tobacco didn't fit the bill for me.

There are better blends out there, but if youve been smoking drugstore blends, this one will be one step up. The tobacco shop I frequent sells about 30 lbs of this blend a month, and I know several guys who smoke it. I haven't had a bowl of 1-Q for about 10 years, so I decided to try it again, just for kicks. The good: it stays lit and there's lots of smoke. The smoke smells good coming off the bowl and the room note pleases most. The bad: it smokes like a low quality, perfume laced blend, there is darn little flavor and it made my mouth feel like an ashtray. When others smoke it, I dont particularily like the room note. I've been smoking tinned tocaccos like Squadron Leader and Plumcake for a couple of years now, and I can't see going back to a tobacco like this- one that's heavily cased, and low on flavor. This is an OK blend for beginners- my 18 and 21 year old sons seem to like it.

I'm a big cavendish fan but this is not one of my favorites. The taste is uninteresting, kind of flat. But it burns well and is easy to smoke. Just not my cup of tea.

I suspect everyone in America has had 1Q at some time or other, even if they didn't know it. I'm lead to believe that this is among the most popular, if not THE most popular bulk blend sold in the states.
This was my first pipe tobacco, and therfore my first tobacco, I ever tried. As my ratings show, this is a plain Jane middle of the road tobacco. It doesn't offend, neither does it cause one to say "Wow, what a smoke!" It's a fairly safe blend to smoke in public, in part due to it's benign character.
I think part of it's beauty is that it can be found virtually anywhere tobacco is sold, and is always a "safe bet" if you're caught short on a trip. It lights easy, smokes well, and burns down to a clean ash.

A descent tobacco but not as aromatic as I had hoped with it being the #1 tobacco sold in America. Mild tasting, hoping for more of a dessert tobacco i suppose. Better than HS3 in my opionion.

This was my #1 smoke for 15 years. The first tobacco I bought by the pound. Then I discovered Flakes and Perique and Stoved Virginia's and life changed..... I still keep it around but only smoke it about 10 times a year.

I rather enjoy this, the flavor is a nice caramel-vanilla chocolate, seems to be kinda strong in nicotine, which I like. I think it smells pretty good burning, but those around me cringe whenever I light up. Its worth smoking when your inexperienced, although I think I will grow out of it eventually.

Update 4/22/205: Yep, it's Wilshire.
1-Q reminds me of the genre of tobacco I purchased at my inception into pipe smoking. My predilections have long ago changed to Virginia flakes, English and Balkan blends. It is superior to most every drug store pouch blend of similar type.
I used to smoke Wilshire. This reminds nothing of Wilshire, but memories do fade. I'll have to check out a jar of Wilshire at my local Tinderbox for myself. I initially received a free bag of 1-Q to sample from another local tobacconist.
This is amazingly cool, cool, cool and a crowd pleaser (for the rare moments I care to appease the public). I would even say it is slightly rich due to the topping and fire-cured leaf. It tastes little like its tobacco base, though. It stays lit and will not bite.
I will not smoke this in anything but two Falcon pipes dedicated to cased and artificially flavored blends. Plus, Falcon's are great for water-logged blends like 1-Q for a no-gurgle smoke.
Worthy to keep an ounce or two around.
