Villiger After Dinner

(3.65)
Mature flue cured Virginias and aromatic burley spiced with Louisiana perique for a rich tobacco experience. The blend has a smooth, complex tobacco taste with an aroma associated with traditional Baii/ Dutch tobaccos.

Tin Note: First impression smelling the sample is Vanilla Cake batter and cookie dough, reminds me of my wife baking her cupcakes and cookies.

Initial Light: Lit really well, took a nice slow even flame right after the false light. I received spicy hints during my first puffs, Not hot spicy but the type of spice you get from a Chai Tea it was very delightful and not over powering. Good Perique.

Mid-Smoke: The burn is traveling down the bowl very slow and consistent in temperature and flavor. This is one of the most complex smokes i think i have had to date. The spice had tuck back just enough to entertain my pallet and it mixed with a subtle sweetness. I was getting a wood like taste every so often it came in and out I wasn't bad tasting but i found it distracted me quite a bit. The wood taste stopped near the end of the mid bowl.

Bottom of the Bowl: Just as i thought this smoke couldn't get any better, IT DID. The smoke was so full and taste was also very filling, it reminded me of thick and creamy Eggnog and fresh Pine tress in the snow. I don't know why but i can really see myself smoking this blend in the winter outside in the cold it would be accompanied by gingerbread and a Hot Coco.

Room Note: Had no one to ask but after the smoke was finished the ambiance was peaceful and calm and i Imagined smelling all the things i mention above. Truly was a great smoke.

Dottle: The ash was thick and fell into dust when touched the burn was slow but it was very consistent and left behind nothing.

Smoking Duration: 50min of bliss

Overall: If you like Chai tea, eggnog and the smell of baking then you need to try this blend. I find myself craving it even as i type this, Truly one of the most complex smokes i have had in a while. The blend of Burley, Perique and Virginia was executed substantially well.

Recommendations:

I rubbed out the flake for this smoke and packed it tight, but would be curious as to how it will smoke cube cut.

What a great surprise as were 2 others in this line (Early Day and Mid-Day). Forget the inherent instructions in the name -- before breakfast, after lunch, before bed, it's all good. Beautifully crafted flake with a perfect balance of sweetness and firepower. Love it (especially in a round tin -- still getting used to so good a flake not coming from a cute little rectangular or square box!).

Update: For what it's worth have finished another tin and would like to confirm that this is a great flake for its flavor profile. You must buy it if you like a BurVaPer (or any smoke for that matter) that evokes a slice of your favorite toast with a little farm-fresh butter. It is satisfying, just a bit complex, round, comfortable and, yes, edible. And while not available in bulk, priced well below its counterparts.

A most enjoyable Va/Per blend - one in which the burley, at least to me, was in the background and played a supporting role. No bite, a nice aroma from the tin and a fine mix of just enough sweetness with tobacco taste. Smoked a bowl after dinner and it was a perfectly enjoyable experience. VaPer my second place preference to English/balkan style blends; this tobacco is a great example of a dutch-style and a most enjoyable gateway to VaPer blends....highly recommended.

By the way, flake packed easily and burned/smoked perfectly - was just funny opening a round tin and finding flake....

Nice! A great vaper blend that burns nice and cool but cranks out thick and creamy smoke. The tin note is to die for and takes me back to a time (a month ago) where I was first smoking this. I liked it then but like it even more after stuffing it in a jar and letting it sit for a while.

Great blend, surprisingly good too considering what I paid for the tin (next to nothing).

The main player here is the Virginia, with the perique a close second. Yes, the burley is noticeable, but it isn't at the front. Nice, grassy, mildly sweet VA and a very noticeable perique. I thing the amount of perique in this blend is perfect; enough to make my nose tingle and to give the blend backbone but not too much to make me queasy.

Great tin smell too; pungent sweetness that reminds me of ripe fruit.

I tend to like my Virginias with a touch (and I mean just a touch) of flavoring, but this is good.

Villager - After Dinner (1888).

I was happy when I found ebay have now okayed tobacco sales in the U.K., I was I happier when I found the seller HABANO757 had this blend which I hadn't seen on Smokingpipes, 4noggins, Cup O', etc., and I was even happier whilst reading here that it's now no longer produced making me lucky to get a tin! Hurry, hurry, HABANO757 still have 4 tins on ebay. Just enter Villager 1888 into the ebay search box to find it.

Now, the review. I always like a selection in my kitchen for my morning smoke and having emptied my VaPer, Hearth & Home Anniversary Flake, I chose this. It's a 10/10 smoke.

The tin contains one row of wide, mottled, quite thin, neatly presented flakes, with a content of water that makes them smokeable fresh. They're not so thin as to crumble to being shag like at the gentlest touch, but a perfect consistency can be achieved with the utmost ease.

1888 is a joy to light (easy, but I fully rub) and then creates, like I said, a top end smoke. It's not a vinegary, bitter, sharp, Perique power-house, the Perique only compliments the smoke with a spot of plums, the lead goes to the Virginia and Burley. These two work together brilliantly: the Virginia's slightly sweet, sprightly and fresh, with the Burley giving a dry, woody, rustic flavour. They play off one another perfectly. It burns nicely, never becoming too warm and necessitating only a little maintenance.

Nicotine: just below medium. Room-note: inoffensive.

After Dinner 1888? This easily warrants four stars:

Highly recommended.

A very cool and slow burning flake with zero tongue-bite. I honestly don't have much experience with flakes at all, but I would defiantly recommend this one. I just had a bowl in a very modestly sized meerschaum, and it gave me a flavorful, satisfying smoke, lasting for more than an hour. I rubbed it almost completely out, but will try different rubbing methods in the future. (just for the sake of experience, it smoked wonderfully fully rubbed-out)

Nicely prepared, mixed yellow to dark brown flakes ~ 1.75x2.5x1/16" with an ideal moisture content and grassy tin aroma. I didn't rub out thid blend just as I typically do with such pliable flakes like this and packing was quite easy and uniform. Smoked cool and without condensation or bite in various bowl sizes. Didn't get much of the Perique influence even towards the end of the bowl but the naturally sweet taste was enjoyable. I enjoyed this more than PS Luxury Twist Flake that I purchase in bulk but found it similar and don't know that the added expense is worth it. If you enjoy Va/Per flakes give this a try.

This is the first Perique I've ever smoked, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The mixture between the Virginias, Periques, and Burleys give it a full taste with zero tongue bite whatsoever. This is a tobacco that gets better as the bowl burns down.

Nice unbroken flakes, compare to Wessex Brigade Campaign Flake. Smooth, no bite, smokes dry.
