Villiger After Dinner
(3.65)
Mature flue cured Virginias and aromatic burley spiced with Louisiana perique for a rich tobacco experience. The blend has a smooth, complex tobacco taste with an aroma associated with traditional Baii/ Dutch tobaccos.

Mild and tasty, with excellent quality tobacco. At mid-bowl, particularly when sipped, the Virginia and Perique hit the palate first, followed by a pleasant woodiness, presumed from the burley. Nice complexity. Retrohale delivers a nice spicy note. Strength builds toward medium, as you enter the final stretch. 3+.

The flue cured Virginias are citrusy and grassy, and mostly take the lead. The burley is a little nutty with a hint of cocoa, and is sweet with a minor earth note as a supporting player. The perique is in the background, lightly spicy with a mild raisin and fig flavor, though it’s not always that noticeable. There is a very mild sweet topping that doesn’t distract from the experience, though it does sublimate the tobaccos just a little. The flakes are easy to rub out, and it burns cool at a moderate pace with a few relights. No bite, and a very mild nic-hit. Doesn’t leave much moisture in the bowl. Not quite an all day smoke, but some may consider it so.

UPDATE 3/26/2018
I just smoked another tin of this with about 4 yrs 4 months of age on this and I am very happy I made the choice to stock up on this one. The Virginias increased substantially in sweetness. The flakes were still relatively clumped together, but not quite as bad as before. I would still put it at 3 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW 1/7/2014
A tasty Va/bur/per with a touch of Danish aromatic treatment. I like this blend, but perhaps the thing I find most attractive is the price. Well, this is probably water under the bridge at this point as I just recently heard that the villiger line is being completely cut, so you should probably stock up while you can. I bought 8 tins of it on the strength of the reviews here and am happy I did at this point.
I just recently finished the first tin. The tin presentation is nice, several strips the size of say, Irish or University flake. The weird thing, at least with this first tin, is they were all stuck together. This could be a problem for fold and stuff guys. Not a biggie for me as I rub out all my flakes.
I found the taste to be heaviest in the Virginia element. I found the burley to be complimentary and the perique to be a little light. There is a slight topping to it, but it is not overwhelming at all. It just adds a little something to the blend to differentiate it from similarly composed blends. Overall, I like this blend and do recommend it, but if it was at a higher price point I don't think I would be as enthusiastic.
If I had to compare this to a blend, I guess the first to come to mind would be Marlin Flake. The topping does differentiate, but it is a little similar in taste to me.

I really enjoyed this tobacco. Virginia and perique gave a mild sweet taste. Just getting into pipe smoking, I was going to give up on it until I had this (this was my introduction to Virginias). I usually rate would I keep on hand, buy here and there, smoke it offered, or never smoke again. I will always have a tin of this on hand. Wife like the smell to.

#3 of 4 small samples from an internet friend. These thoughts are based on 3 bowls, so take it for what it's worth. I'm of the opinion that reliability for the reviews of others is dicey at best and when the "review" is based on such a small sample, it's pretty pointless. But these are my thoughts....
I enjoyed this VaBurPer, as all three components took their turns at leading, riding shotgun or following. The Virginias had a slight spice to go with their usual flare and usually led, the burley had a nice hint of sweet nut and seemed to hold it all together and the perique was of the soft dark fruit variety with not much spice and no pepper. The three tobaccos sparred in a friendly way and this tobacco would have been much the worse for wear if even one of them were absent. It smelled sweeter than it tasted and when I took my first whiff out of the bag, I thought it was going to be just another Stokkebye sugary VaPer. Wrong! This is called After Dinner but it was a great late morning smoke for me. I'd love to get more but it seems this one is out of production. Too bad. Not a complete bell-ringer, but this one has a unique spot amidst all the "me too" blends out there. Nicely done, Stokkebye! This struck me as the Crosby, Stills and Nash of blends. Harmonious and holding something new to keep repeated smokes interesting. 3.5 stars.

It is a shame that these are no longer available. They were very high quality at a reasonable price. The After Dinner is a high quality VAPER flake that offers a great deal of flavor and complexity for an almost ridiculous (in its day) low price.
The flake itself is a rich virginia and burley flake peppered with perique. It rubs out easily and dries readily, being ready to pack after 10 minutes or so. The flavor is sweet, rich, and delicious upon first light, and stays complex and delicious throughout the bowl. When properly dried it light readily and burns smoothly with little effort to keep it lit. The flavor is rich and deep, with sweet virginia flavors and a peppery topnote. The burley is not overwhelming, but rounds out the flavor and contributes to the fine burn characteristics. My tin is at least five years old, I an expect that it in general this benefits from a fair bit of aging. My memory from before is that it was sharper and less complex. Now, after several years of aging it is well rounded and smooth, an very sweet and flavorful.
There are similar VAPERS which are still made. If you are patient and let your tins age for several years you will receive something special in return. This one unfortunately may be lost to the ages. If you have a chance and can find an old tin here or there purchase it and enjoy a fine and special blend.
