Sutliff Tobacco Company Blue Danube

(2.56)
Aromatic Golden Cavendish with Burley and rich Virginias.
Notes: The scenic Danube is both unique and vast. It is the only major European river which flows west to east, gushing some 1,770 miles through ten countries. Much like the Danube, this Aromatic Golden Cavendish of Burley and Rich Virginias has depth resulting in a distinctively, delicious character.

Smells and tastes a little like sweet honey bread to the smoker, and those around him/her. The nutty, molasses sweet burley is the most obvious tobacco. The black cavendish offers brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. The grassy, citrusy, bread-like Virginia component is not that prominent, and forms the base for the other components. The vanilla toppings also have a touch of cocoa and perhaps marshmallow. The nic-hit is mild. No chance of bite. Burns very evenly, cool and clean at a moderate pace with a very smooth, consistent flavor. Needs few relights, leaves almost no moisture in the bowl, and has a nice after taste. It's sweet, but not cloyingly so, which means you can smoke it all day without getting tongue bite or diabetes.

A really nice tasting blend. The Golden Cavendish is the star for me adding a sweet fruitiness to the rum and vanilla. The Burley adds depth and a little nuttiness. Can't taste any other Virginias. All around great flavors here. A very pleasing smoke.

Mild in body and flavoring. Mild to medium in flavor. Burns well straight from the tin.

Too moist straight from the tin 32% moisture, I had to dry it for quite awhile to get it down to 15% [still a bit moist but I didn't want to wait any longer]-(I love my simple/ inexpensive moisture meter). Someday I may be an old hand and simply know by feel, for now I will cheat using the meter :). This stuff burned ok, I had to relight a few times after the 3/4 mark-guess I should have waited a bit more and dried it to 13% or so. It had a nice aroma, vanilla, berry. It had a vanilla/whiskey/fruit flavor. The berry/fruit flavor was minimal, the fruit aroma was more pronounced. It had a slight chemical flavor and aroma, not unlike the scented candle descriptions in other posts. I am a newbie smoker and prefer aromatics, so this was ok for me, but not exceptional. It burned to ash with very little dottle with a few relights at the bottom of the bowl. I am attributing this to a high moisture content. It didn't leave any sticky mess for me. I probably won't get this tobacco again, unless I find it at my local shop at 50% off again like this tin. It's worth smoking at 1/2 price 🙂

I am writing this review after smoking almost all of a 1.5 oz tin. It came a little damp for me in the tin. I tried mixing it with some very dry blending toasted burley, and I tried giving it some air. Both these solutions worked well.

This is a pleasant aromatic with notes of vanilla and maybe rum. It is slightly sweet. There is a quality to the taste that is sometimes heavy and maybe a little yeasty. I think that is the "bread" that some reviewers mention. The ingredients list Virginia, but I am not finding any in the taste profile.

Appearance: Medium and light brown ribbons

Label: The scenic Danube is both unique and vast. It is the only major European river which flows west to east, gushing some 1,770 miles through ten countries. Much like the Danube, this Aromatic Golden Cavendish of Burley and Rich Virginias has depth resulting in a distinctively delicious character.

Aroma: Light hay and mild tobacco. There is a light sweet smell, but it is much lighter than most aromatics.

Taste: Reminds of a good, very mild cigar. It's not too sweet, and the tobacco flavor peeks through occasionally. Some puffs bring a bit of a light grassy, sweet, or nutty taste. The flavors are faint though, you have to try to pick them out.

Smokability: Stays lit easily and burns down to ash. I'm normally used to several relights when smoking, but after the initial light, I only needed one more for it to burn through to the end. There was no gurgling, which I experience with a lot of aromatics as well.

Room Note: Pleasant and inoffensive. It's not strong and seems to fade quickly.

Thoughts: It's a very non-finicky, easy to smoke tobacco. I could see myself smoking this while working on the car, or watching a movie. Somewhere where I'm occuppied and just want a nice smoke without relighting or needing to run a cleaner down my pipe steam to quiet the gurgling.

There's no heavy artificial taste, but no heavy tobacco taste either. In one word, mild.

This blend is the first of the Sutliff Private Stock I've had. It will not be the last, thanks to my YTPC Secret Santa.

This is a very mild tobacco. The tin note is absolutely wonderful, smelling of vanilla and liqueur with just a little nuttiness in the background. The smoke is mild to medium bodied and goes through two stages for me. At first it tastes like hazelnut, eventually morphing into a vanilla with a little cinnamon. The room note is just mildly sweet and pleasant.

Overall a very pleasant smoke but probably not something I would go out of my way to get.
