(3.19)
A re-release of the blend previously known as Baby's Bottom, BB1938 is an extremely smooth blend of Cyprian latakia and sweet golden & red Virginias. A wonderful blend for Virginia lovers who are looking for a little extra flavor.

This tobacco does indeed live up to it's name. It has got to be one of the smoothest smokes I have ever had.

The latikia is fairly apparent in tin aroma promising a very flavorful smoke. The flavor is there, but there can be a bit of a sneaky tongue bite in there if you're a power smoker.

There is an imediate sweetness that that only slightly diminishes through the bowl. It isn't a terribly complex smoke, but a very solid enjoyable bowl.

Like most Dunhills, I would say this is a fine warm hearth and cushy chair smoke!

Just before Dunhill decided they didn’t want to be in the tobacco business any longer there was a push to resurrect some long discontinued blends. An online seller was hyping this as a beloved blend from the 1930s that collectors were clamoring to have reintroduced. I bought a tin to try even though I was already wondering why, if it was so beloved, was it not in general production all these decades. Anyway, now I have my answer.

I have to agree with those who found this so mild and without character that you are scratching your head wondering what all the fuss was about. If you’re looking at a collectible site selling this for top dollar, move along folks, nothing to see here, do not pass the yellow line with your credit card!

I was so eager I tried my tin almost immediately upon arrival, then sampled over the next year to see if some magic might happen in the jar. Nope. This is even milder than EMP, and less complex. I’m not sure what process they used to make these tobaccos so characterless, but there’s zero savory contribution from the Latakia, and the Virginias are practically tasteless. Given that I’ve generally had good luck following Gentleman Zombies’ reviews (he gives this a resounding four stars) I have to wonder if BAT had issues with their mixing tumbler. Others have said the aroma of Latakia hits you in the face, in mine it was barely discernible. Anyway, I gave away the rest of what I had in the jar and moved on to greener pastures.

Dunhill My Mixture BB1938 Tin note of smoky, mildly sweet and dry vegetation. Tobacco is dark brown, light brown and black ribbon cut. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is mild to medium and consistent, with notes of bready, woody, spices, floral, sweet grass, earthy, dry hay/vegetation, leather, savory, mildly smoky, mildly herbal, lemon zest, acidic, spicy, a mildly tangy citrus incense like background note, and a peppery retro. Virginias are barely beating Latakia for the lead. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

Not exciting. A good English mixture without oriental leaves, well balanced, with a mild to medium strength. But it is always the same old stuff. Latakia mixtures are so much and this one does not differ from the average. In my opinion Baby’s Bottom is a classic but common English blend. It does not stand out. Certainly ideal for Latakia lovers but my demanding taste asks for more. Specially with Dunhill. So, in my personal rating system (from 1 to 10) my score is 7 and two stars.
