1776 Tobacco Co Old Dominion

(3.00)
The first and still the finest, all black smoking blend. Unsurpassed mildness makes this a blend for cigarette smokers changing to a pipe. Lightly aromatic, charcoal toasted, and 100% Virginia leaf.

The Virginia is very subdued by the toppings, but I notice a hint of grass, straw and citrus. I’m not sure what “charcoal toasting” does for the tobaccos, but it seems to create a very mild stewed tart fruit taste, so maybe it’s a fancy term for “stoving”. The company's website says it's 100% Virginia, but I remain skeptical. The black cavendish offers some vanilla which competes with the Virginia sweetness, the latter being sightly more noticeable in the last first and last quarters of the smoke. I also get a sense of something that gives a slight cinnamon-like hit, but I believe it is a light spice note from the Virginias. And there seems to be a little sugary topping. The tobacco is dry and burns at a little more than a moderate rate, so I recommend you sip it a little. I experienced no tongue bite. The nicotine level is very light. The strength is mild. The taste is a step or two past that mark. Lightly creamy, it burns to ash with ease and a consistently bland flavor. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. A weak starter blend as the flavors have no depth, and the taste is rather thin. Has an innocuous after taste. One and half stars only because it doesn't bite or goop.
