Sutliff Tobacco Company Great Outdoors
(2.94)
It is perhaps ironic that a blend named Great Outdoors should be appreciated for its room note. This outstanding aromatic is a mixture of burley, vanilla, and flavored black cavendish. Perfect for fans of Field and Stream.
Notes: This blend is manufactured by Sutliff and sold under their "Sutliff Private Stock" brand.

I must say I really like this tobacco. Its not too strong at all, probably because it is mixed with burley tobacco. As far as flavor goes it was kind of "nutty" but good. My garage smells really good after I smoked it in there. Tasted really good in my opinion, nothing was bad about that part. I would definately recommend this to other pipe smokers, and I will definately continue to buy it. To be honest this is one of my favorites so far.

This is a really nice blend,it smokes cool right out of the tin. The room note is very nice and gets lots of compliments. I really enjoy this tobacco once the bowl has heated up, the flavors of the tobacco really seem come out then. I would definitely smoke this again.

I am not naturally inclined to love aromatic blends, but I do get in aromatic moods occasionally. This one, better than any other I've tried in recent years, is well worth discovering.
To be fair, I've never smoked Field & Stream, on which this blend is supposedly based. But that hardly matters; it's a worthwhile and -- to my palate -- utterly unique blend capable of standing on its own.
It does smoke best when allowed to air out for at least 4-6 hours. Otherwise, be prepared for a slightly wet smoke and a more over-bearing aromatic presence. I can only describe the aroma as "masculine" in a very good sense, remininding me a lot of my father's aftershave -- though not in a bad way. (I realize how unhelpful that is!) The flavor, however, is simply a good neutral burley, without any noticeable sweetness on the tongue.
Maybe it's my mood or maybe it's this blend, but I'm hooked for the moment.

I received a promotional 1.5 oz. tin of GO in the mail. On opening it I was greeted with a ribbon cut Burley with chunks of Black Cavendish. The top note that greeted one was vanilla and licorice. The tobacco had a sticky feel which pinched for packing, but lit easily and stayed lit nicely. I was greeted with a subtle nutty background flavor that developed as the smoke progress, and stronger tastes of licorice that persisted. The blend did not bite or heat up, and although a little monochromatic in flavor, it did have occasional bursts of other flavors. This is a nice change of pace.

I havent reviewed a blend in awhile. Having tried several blends that were not to my taste i went to my local B&M last week and picked up a tin of Escudo. Along with my tin of Escudo, my tobacconist gave me a tin of Great Outdoors for free to try. The tin aroma is very mild, much milder than the original Field and Stream and even less than the HOW version. Sort of a vanilla and whiskey scent, no floral / talcum aroma like the past two blenders used. The cut is similar to both of those versions (a cube cut) but also has the addition of string cut virginia and is very easy to pack. I am very pleased with the quality and will look to try the other Sutliffe blends in the future! Very tasty in a cob!

Got a 1.5 oz tin of this free from Altadis' website ... very cool ... I think this is better than feild and stream . It's burley flavor that dosen't drown out the vanilla and maybe whiskey ? the flavorings are mild . It's been a one pipe cleaner blend so far. It's a good blend and could be an all day smoker . I'll try it in more pipes .I wish it were a bit stronger .passed the wife test .....O.K. ... tried it in more pipes and finished it off and have to give it 2.5 stars if I could . Smoked alittle " steamy " and didn't quite give a mouthfull of smoke . Needs more punch and smoke .

I received a sample bag in my July TinSociety box. I've never tried Field and Stream so I'm basing the comments just on this by itself.
The tobacco in the baggy was quite moist. Its dark with a few bigger pieces in it. I let it dry out for 1/2 hour before packing.
The flavor was mostly a warm vanilla that didn't completely overpower the tobacco flavor. As I smoked this again in a smaller bowl, I picked up more of the anise flavors. It didn't bite and the flavor was consistent beginning to end
It left some moisture in the bottom of the radiator but smoked pretty easily without requiring relights.
Decent taste but not something I'd buy on my own.

I don't recall how I received my tin of this blend. I think it was a free item as part of some promotion I qualified for. Being a mild aromatic blend, it isn't anything I would normally seek out. While I almost never smoke aromatics, I'm not opposed to them. I just usually prefer stronger full-bodied blends. I kept my tin around for half a decade before opening it.
I found this blend to be very pleasant and easy smoking. It doesn't bite, it's smooth and easy smoking, burns evenly, and didn't ghost my pipe with any overly applied toppings or goop. This is an aromatic for everyone else and a good all-day smoke with real tobacco flavor for the person behind the pipe. This blend was a pleasant surprise for me.
I'll recommend this blend for anyone looking for an all-day smoke that won't be too offensive for everyone else.

I got this on a whim, whilst ordering some pipe filters. There were things I liked about the old Field and Stream but it had it's warts. While this is supposed to be a "take" on the old blend, it far surpasses it.
Long story short: I get a nice toasted/nutty burley flavor perfectly mixed with the anisette topping. I've smoked quite a few anise flavored tobaccos and most of them weren't as well done as this. I don't get "soap" or "perfume" at all. The flavoring sits just above the underlying burley so that they compliment each other. Packs easy, burns slow and with few relights. The room note is very nice. Overall a great take on an old recipe. I will try and keep some of this around!

Great Outdoors is a nice, solid smoke. The room note is fairly neutral to sweet and the flavor to the smoker is a quality Burley with a lightly sweet anise topping. Recommended to all who want a solid all day smoke that satisfies the smoker and doesn’t offend those around them.
