Sutliff Tobacco Company Great Outdoors

(2.94)
It is perhaps ironic that a blend named Great Outdoors should be appreciated for its room note. This outstanding aromatic is a mixture of burley, vanilla, and flavored black cavendish. Perfect for fans of Field and Stream.
Notes: This blend is manufactured by Sutliff and sold under their "Sutliff Private Stock" brand.

I tire of bitey aromatics. If burley bites you like it does me, avoid Great Outdoors. I got through two bowls, but didn't taste supper.

On the other hand, if burley is your thing, give it a whirl. Other than the tongue bite, I liked it.

The casing seems to make a huge difference for me with burley bite. Carter Hall and Great Outdoors bite me like a New Mexico rattler. But Butternut Burley has become my go-to anytime of day blend, and other over-the-counters - Prince Albert, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Half and Half - leave me be.

The tin note is of an artificial fruit taffy, which in itself is appealing but more than a little worrisome for a bowl of tobacco. There were also notes of acidic chocolate, like a cheap milk chocolate. This one I have very little to say about as it was quite flavorless. A little sweet, but otherwise I'll use the cliche that I so hate, "tastes like smoking air." Mild doesn't really describe this tobacco accurately, as that would be generous. Maybe it's me, but I gave this tobacco it's fair few tries and repeatedly failed to get any semblance of aromatic flavor, much less tobacco flavor from it. Would not recommend.

If you're in a bind and trying to impress upon people that pipe tobacco smells good, maybe pull this out, and you can fill the room with a nice citrusy/dairy note.

Holy tongue bite batman! Not impressed with this one, might be OK but for the horrendous bite. I smoke burleys often with no bite however this one gets me bad every time. I'm going to let it age for a bit and see if that helps.

It can get hot fast, and can bite the hell out of you if you don’t watch your cadence. The room note is pleasant, the taste has a whisper of vanilla here, and there. I think my nose was picking up more on that than anything else. There are better aero’s out there. This one isn’t for me.
