This is a decent Maple Aromatic, but it pales in comparison to Autumn Evening and, well, all the other ones that I have tried.
To start, there is no need in discussing the leaf which underlies the maple and rum topping as it is nearly undetectable. As for the texture, it is moist. I never really tried to dry it out as it smoked fine in its moist state. Based on the taste which had a slight chemical aftertaste, I figured it wouldn't really dry anyway.
The topping is mostly maple and that aftertaste which I am pretty sure is the humectant. The rum is not readily apparent to me. My biggest gripe on this other than the chemical taste is the lack of body. This is the epitome of hot flavored air to me. As I got close to the end of the tin I tossed in a healthy share of Perique and it greatly improved the smoking experience.
As to the performance; it performs fine. It doesn't really bite unless pushed (which is easy to do with hot flavored air). It takes and holds a light just fine and, surprisingly does not smoke that wet. It is only based on the performance here, and the fact that some people seem to like hot flavored air, that I am giving this two stars.

Sutliff, Maple Street: A Scrumptious Maple Aromatic that Will Bite
The topping is very nice. The rum and maple both are equally present with a generous level of sweetness that pervades the smoke.
To tobacco seems to be made up mostly of lighter Virginia varietals, which offer a grassy notes and some crispness to the smoke. The burley seems to make up about 40% and gives the smoke some body. I really like the choice not to include black cavendish in a maple aromatic. However, this blend bites me badly no matter how slow I smoke it—but your mileage may vary.

Whatever is in these sticky Sutliff aromatics really irritates my tongue and throat. This is not something I can smoke passively or while I'm working outdoors because if I'm not super careful this stuff will literally scorch my tongue. While it's a bit sickeningly sweet the flavor is decent and the Virginia and Burly makes this a slightly better alternative to one of it's vanilla, black cavendish relatives. The smell in the pouch is very nice but the scent and flavor stay with you for quite a while which is really bad for me but maybe good for others. I've had this same pouch of tobacco for 8 to 10 years and it is still sticky and moist despite being left in dry condtions. Leaves the pipe slightly less funky that some other aromatics but funky all the same. Maybe step up from nasty old sticky vanilla black cavendsih and "Somewhat Recommended" to smokers of those types of blends. Absolutely "Not Recommend" to English or straight Virginia purist or anyone that has reactions to PG laden blends.

I receieved a free tin in the mail and I really liked the blend intially. I liked it enough to order a large tin on my next order. I do like the flavor but it is not as strong a tobacco flavor as I like. It smokes HOT! I can't smoke it slow enough to keep it cool. Even in a meeshaum it smokes hot. I have blended it with some english blends to mellow out the english and cool down the Maple Street. It blends well. It will take me a long time to smoke this tin.

Like a previous reviewer, I found the smell on opening the tin to be quite bad. It was like taking a big whiff from a bottle of rum. I cannot stand the smell of alcohol, so I was prepared for a bad smoke, too. However, the taste really is nothing like the smell. There is a pleasant maple note with just a hint of rum. Room note is sweet without the overpowering smell of the tin. As for the aftertaste- it's not unpleasant, but I keep getting a familiar taste. Almost like pinon, but hard to describe.

I am not a big fan of aromatic blends, but our pipe club got a shipment of this blend so I thought I should try it... The rum and maple blend was interesting and smoked well in my meerschaum pipe. I wished for more "real tobacco" taste. While I would never buy this blend, I will enjoy smoking it in the company of non smokers. Everyone who smells it, loves it.

It is an economical tobacco so no over-promises. However, I found the flavoring overwhelming and somewhat artificial. The tobacco burned somewhat unevenly. I do not intend to buy it again.
