Cornell & Diehl Poplar Camp

(3.08)
Almost 20% perique and a dash of unsweetened black cavendish are combined with Yorktown to make a Virginia/perique lover's dream blend. Much like Bayou Morning, be forewarned; the muscular presence of perique makes C&D's Poplar Camp for the stout of heart.

This review is based off one year of cellar time. The appearance is the same as when fresh. The springy ribbons and chunks of black Cavendish pack well and light well. Minimal relights are needed. The aromas are distinctly perique and Virginia. The first flavors are full bodied Virginia's and figgy perique. The year in the jar has tamed this down quite a bit and smoothes out the rough edges. The perique is still spicy but has that prune/fig taste now which I am enjoying. I do prefer this belnd with a bit of time on it but I did also enjoy it fresh. Overall this is not an all day smoke but definitely a good daily vaper.

As a long time cigar smoker, this blend has a lot of similar qualities to a medium bodied Cameroon or Habano cigar. It has notes of earth, spice, and a hint of cedar. The cedar note as well as some cashew carry over into the retrohale as well. The blend seems to build slightly past the halfway point of the bowl but doesn’t pass the medium mark.

Nothing to do with Bayou Morning.I suspect the base is Yorktown.Really a lot of topping. This is almost an aromatic, this is not at all a VaPer with cavendish.By the way I think it is a bad way of Spoiling the optimal Yorktown.Given the enthusiastic reviews I think that mayhaps there must be a fail in labeling.Who knows?

This is a good solid VA/Per blend I purchased based on the reviews here. I'm glad I did and plan to keep some in the rotation as one of my go to's.

Poplar camp is a pleasant light English blend that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good tasting, light-hearted mixture. A great choice for the novice English smoker.

For me, I mostly get the red Virginia, with just some hints of the Perique. Those who really enjoy that profile should give this a try -- a straightforward but enjoyable . Since I know there are many tobaccos out there I would rate a 4, the question arises would I rebuy this particular tobacco, assuming my tastes don't change much more. In this case, the answer is probably not.

This pleasant VaPer tastes good and natural. Here is a Cornell & Diehl blend that is not the very best they produce, but it still clicks with me.

I can't detect any flavoring here. This burns well, also. Offers some complexity, too.

Give it a whirl!

There is no set standard for Va/Pers, and I have tried many Va/Pers formulations, but I still don't want to stop.

Today I got this, this is the sister piece to Bayou Morning, the reason I like this more, is the taste of opening the bag (because it doesn't stink lol), nicotine is very satisfying, I will continue to buy it as a carousel.
