Sillem's Black
(3.42)
Extravagant is the right word to characterize this mixture. We have revolutionized the traditional old English art of blending. The main ingredient is the finest spicy smoky latakia. By adding highly aromatic black cavendish, this blend becomes smoother. A small portion of burley gives a slight toasted aroma, and a pinch of bright Virginia brings a subtle sweet note. Mellow, but yet full bodied aromas of honey and fruit essences result in a unique flavor. This tobacco will surely be a delight.
Notes: This tobacco is listed as English Aromatic on the website "Smokingpipes.com."

Delicious smoke when Latakia is combined with black cavendish, you can get the same blend using 50% Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian with 50% Mac Baren Black Amrosia.

I like this one. It smells faintly like toasted marshmallows, but isn't too sweet. One of my new favorites. I think everyone should try this at least once.

I purchased this tin around 2020 at the store where we had our pipe club meetings. I liked the tin and also since the owner was nice to let us use his store, I would usually buy a tin periodically. I never opened it until recently and if had known it was packaged like the W.O. Larsen blends in the cellophane and with a sticker to seal the bag I probably would have jarred this a long time ago. Mine was dry as a bone. Nonetheless, I have been smoking it for over a week now and find it very pleasant. I have read some of the reviews describing this as tasting of fruits, honey, blackberry, etc. For me I mostly taste Cherry. It is a very good Aromatic/English or English/Aromatic, take your pick. Not much more to say but like I said if planning on not opening this for some years like I did, I would definitely jar this sooner than later. Here is a very good review by Shawn Ireland, on SmokingPipes.com.

Revised 7/3/23: After a couple of years of trying all kinds of tobaccos, I settled on English tobaccos as my favorite. The only aromatic I continue to smoke is Davidoff Danish Mixture.
One recollection of Sillem's Black, though: It ghosts pipes that are used with non-aromatic tobaccos, and it takes a few bowls of non-aromatic tobacco to remove the flavor imparted by Sillems Black.
Original review:
This is what I call a European Aromatic, as opposed to an American Aromatic. The flavor is more subtle and appealing. It is not wet and does not leave a sticky residue in the pipe bowl.
The added flavor is pleasant, while still allowing the essential flavor of the tobaccos to define the blend. That is the great quality of the European Aromatics.
If you normally smoke English and Oriental, and want to try an aromatic like this for a change of taste, then this tobacco may be a good candidate for you. That's how I smoke it, along with a couple of other similar aromatics and an occasional bowl of Lane 1Q.
If I could only have one tobacco of this type, it would be Davidoff Danish Mixture because of the complexity of the flavors and the delightful occasional notes of unexpected flavors.
This tobacco is not sold in a conventional resealable round tin. You will need to move the tobacco to a jar or humidor.

i liked this blend. i bought it as an alternative to "shortcut to mushrooms," and found the two pretty similar, but this blend had a little more bite to it. not too much, but enough to notice. it has a pleasant, unique taste to it.
i'd recommend it. only complaint is the packaging, which i thought was kind of goofy. i couldnt get the tin to close properly. maybe i'm missing something.
anyway, i enjoyed the tobacco itself.

One of my favorites, this blend burns really well, bites a little but not too much, and has a lot of flavor. It smells great and tastes just as good, it satisfies my desire for a very full flavor with lower nicotine contents nicely.

I concur fully with DrumsAndBeer's review. I didn't expect this to be so heavily cased, but I liked the room note and it was a nice change of pace. However, I don't think I will buy this again...at least for a few years.

Not my favorite baccy, but always good to have some on hand. A decent room note and clean burn.

Take your tobacco from this poor quality non air sealed tin and jar it. Then enjoy a unique and brilliant presentation of smell and taste complexity. So why not four stars ? Because it tends to dry out fast and at some point this taste complexity becomes arti-chemi-ficial.. but to a very low level. Anyway, it's nice to have some at home.

The smell is almost that of potpourri, a unique smell that you just need to smell to understand. It's quite floral but with other smells as well. It tastes like it has a hint of latakia but definitely retains that English taste.
