Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Paradise

(2.70)
Rich, full-bodied black cavendish with hints of vanilla on the finish. All blended up for a nice mild and flavored smoke. Once lit the vanilla aroma is out of this world, complementing the dark cavendish in a gentle way.

Reviews are all over the board on this one. I personally am not real turned on by Vanilla blends as most taste like a chemical bath. Did not find that here in Paradise. What I did find was a good black Cavendish with a touch of Vanilla, berries and toasted nuts. Good aromatic smoke, mild, tasty and fragrant. No hoop, no bite, and consistent flavor from start to finish. While it won’t become a regular rotator here at Dix Creek I plan to keep a little on hand when I need to be reminded of what a Vanilla aromatic should taste like.

On my first pilgrimage to Boswell's last May, I picked up four tobaccos and a brand new pipe. If you're a pipe smoker, I highly recommend you make the journey. Boswell's a class shop, and Chambersburg is a true piece of Americana. I purchased Northwoods, Sweet Dreams, Pennsylvania Dutch Treat and Paradise. Sorry, I digress—ah, back to the 'baccy.

In Paradise, I've at long last discovered an aromatic that has some flavor—sweet, creamy, a hint of berries, and some other stuff that I couldn't identify (more on this last point coming). I'm not much for aromatics, chiefly because they lack taste, but, as stated, not this one. This blend impressed me, but it also reminded me of yet another reason why I tend to shy away from aromatics—additives (albeit, in this case, skillfully blended). Paradise is really packed full of stuff that's, well, not tobacco (I defy anyone to tell me otherwise). For that reason alone, while liking the taste, I will only make this an occasional smoke. Paradise is a good Black Cav, I'll fire it up when I want a change of pace. Recommended.

Cheers!

This is not BCA. It is dry for Black Cavendish and not overly sweet. Downside for me is not really sweet enough on its own. Upside is no bite no gurgle and does not give me a sickly feeling. All in all this is a pleasant smoking experience. Suitable for public smoking. I liked it and will use it as acondiment component for some heady English mixtures. all in all not a bad smoke. 3 stars

My least favorite of all the Boswell blends, which are great blends. The room note is great, but other than that, I found the flavor a bit too mild, and really not much of a vanilla flavor. You can definitely taste the Black Cavendish, but it seems like the same Black Cavendish you buy in bulk at the drug store. If you want a pleasing smoke, with just the right amount of vanilla, try Boswells Christmas Cookie. No bite to this one however, like you get from other vanilla blends like Borgum Riff or Altidis (ouch!), just not enough of anything to make it interesting.

I'm updating my review and giving it 3 instead of two stars. Over the months, I have gone back and forth on this one, and have noticed, as it's been given time to age, I like it more. I can see what some of the other reviewers are getting from this blend. I must have received my pack of this when it was freshly, blended. I'm not a Vanilla freak, but the casing on this one has become more evident as time goes by. If I really liked a plain Vanilla tobacco, it might even get 4 stars from me.

I am in search of a replacement for Lane VBC. While Paradise does not rise to that level, it is a solid smoke. Pretty standard vanilla black cav - smooth, but not complex. Pleasant room note and easy to smoke. There is nothing wrong with this blend, but there is nothing that makes it stand out from the other VBC's out there.

This was the first Boswell blend I tried and it instantly made me a fan. The pouch aroma is heavenly...very sweet and a lot of vanilla. Next to that, the very black color of this cavendish also stands out. It seemed to smoke very cool, and I wasn't exactly going easy on it. No bite at all, and it's a tobacco you can really smoke, not just puff on. It tasted great with a smooth vanilla comming through with a slightly smoky after taste. Not very complex, but just a nice smooth, mild, tasty smoke for someone who enjoys vanilla. The only other thing I can say is I would save this for a quick smoke somewhere inbetween the day. It's defenately not something for the first bowl to get you up and going and it's not quite the "all day smoke". But I like it.

Black Cavendish at it's best. This is a good all day smoke. Not sticky, lites well and burns even to the bottom of the bowel. I like it and plan on keeping it in rotation. Priced at $2.20 per ounce and a good value.

Extremely mild, slightly sweet. Not much taste at all. Wife says it smells sweet. No aftertaste. Good social blend.

A very good aromatic. Boswell definitely holds a monopoly in great tasting aromatic blends. This BC blend is a little lighter in taste than Xmas cookie but very wet upon opening. It does bite a little but not very easily, just be aware! Taste and smells of vanilla so expect a pure Vanilla smoke with no other surprises.

I ordered several Boswell Blends to try and this one is definatley Mcclelland's Vanilla Black Cavendish. I have the Boswell sample next to my Ball Jar of VBC and they are the same blend just renamed. Good stuff though, check my review of this blend under Mcclelland VBC. VBC is also present in their Chistmas Cookie blend. Perhaps half VBC and half 1-Q
