Cornell & Diehl White Burley

(2.44)
This is C&D's high grade burley from the Kentucky fields. Naturally smooth, cool smoking and featuring a pleasant room note, White burley can make for a great smoke on its own as well as act as a fine base for your own mixture experimentation.
Notes: Blending tobacco.

I love Burley. I love C&D, but this tastes like smoking a brown paper bag. Very poor quality low grade burley. A real disapointment and IMHO a total waste of money. I bought 2 lbs of it and a threw away 1.85 lbs of it.

I am reviewing several C+D blending tobaccos as a precursor to some blending experiments. I know not many people blend, but these reviews may provide some hints to those wanting to do so.

Definitely the blending base of the lot. This tobacco is very bland and seems to have strength primarily in burning characteristic - very cool and no bite. Just a slight almost cedar like flavor and aroma.

Pleasantly nutty, uncomplex, a tiny bit bitter and/or sour? Barely detecting any sweetness. Not much here, but it's not terrible. I could see smoking a small bowl while trying to decide what I really want to smoke. May have merit as a canvas for stronger flavors?

Jar note of sweet vegetation. Tobacco ribbons are reddish brown. Moisture content is a little high, drying may be preferred. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected despite jar note. Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of toast, leather, very woody, molasses, dry earth, semi-sweet bread, brown sugar, almost creamy, mildly bitter, a sweet nutty background note, and a mostly smooth retro. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

This is a quality burley that mixes well with Virginia, especially C&D Virginia flake which just happens to be my favorite Va. Unless you really like straight burley I wouldn’t recommend smoking this on it’s own , but as a mixer this is a 3

I bought this to try to get what white burley brings to a burley blend .What I have discovered smoking this by itself is that white burley has almost no flavor . A slight nuttiness and I don’t get any cocoa at all . I bought it to blend though and obviously that’s what is is for . I guess it softens dark burley spice down . Burleys definitely need Virginias to bring out the flavor and nuttiness.
