Lane Limited Captain Black Cherry

(1.62)
The cherry blend combines sweet-smoking cavendish leaf with a sound kick of cherry casing, for a very flavorful smoke. Exceptionally mild, delightfully aromatic.
Notes: Due to EU regulations, this is now sold in some European countries as Ruby.

Out the pack, the smoke was hot air for me. Too moist.

Smelled like cherry hard candy in the pouch. Mix of pleasant brown and tan tobacco ribbons.

I tried this one again after letting it sit out overnight. This made a world of a difference!

The taste really came through, lots of Cherry. The taste reminds of a cherry sucker....maybe DumDum cherry sucker because it's not very tart (something I would have preferred) more sweet than anything. Mid bowl I got more of the tobacco but in general the artificial cherry stays center.

Nic is barely there.

Didn't bite but pipe got hot.

Because it ends up tasting how it claims, like Cherry, I rate it a 2.5 for aromatic. This was nothing like the cough syrup cherry of Half and Half (the second cherry one Ive tried so far).

But because it tastes super fake and barely any tobacco taste it's a 1.5 to 2.

This is one of the first tobaccos I tried, many years ago, so the nostalgia probably affects my opinion on this one. It's definitely not the best, but I can still enjoy it from time to time.

Tin Note: Can't Wait - This is probably my favorite thing about this tobacco. The smell takes me back to my 20s when I first tried out pipe smoking, so it holds a special place for me. I really like the scent of Cherry flavoring, so I'm a big fan.

Pack/Light: Standard - No issues packing or lighting it.

Taste: It'll Do - The taste doesn't quite live up to the smell, in my opinion. It starts out with a lot of promise, but it quickly becomes rather one-dimensional.

Mouth Feel: A Bit Harsh - I find that it starts getting harsh fairly early into the smoke. I do get a little tongue bite, but it's not terrible. Using a long-stemmed pipe, like a churchwarden, has helped to minimize this.

Room Note: Phew! - The room note is not as pleasant as the tin note, leaving a less than desirable smell lingering. Personally, I don't mind it so much, but my wife is not a fan, so I have to take that into consideration.

Overall: Good - It's not the first blend I would reach for, but I wouldn't throw it in the trash either. It's an acceptable aromatic that is widely accessible and inexpensive. I love the cherry scent on the nose, but I wish it followed through after lighting. I feel like this one gets my hopes up and then disappoints, but I wouldn't say it's a bad tobacco by any means. I'd recommend using a churchwarden-style pipe to mitigate the bite.

I read a lot of the negative reviews before trying and so I was a bit hesitant to try this one. The smell of the tobacco in the pouch is very strong, candy like, but pleasant. I lit it up in my clay pipe...I find the tobaccos that seem more moist do well in the clay pipes.

Didn't have too much of an issue keeping it lit. Tried to smoke it quite slowly to avoid the infamous bite. It burned hot but wasn't as bad as I expected. The artificial cherry flavor came through very strongly and tasted a bit chemically so I can see why it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Overall it wasn't the worst thing I've ever smoked, I'd probably have it again if I was short on options.

walking through a neighborhood far from my home, i stopped in front of a store where this tobacco was being sold way cheaper than i´m used to see (like 5 dollars less than usual) so i thought could be the moment to give a try. Once opened the pouch the smell is just OK, like any other Captain Black, chemical and wet. After lit, the first scent is a strong candy and sweet cherry, i could feel a bit of vanilla sometimes, never the tobacco flavor. It´s strongly cased and strongly artificially sweetened. HARD to keep it lit. Not my kind of tobacco, but i have tried worst aromatics before. Just recommended for the ones who really like aromatics and i am one of them but even if it´s your case, you might feel a bit overwhelmed by the artificial casing, it delivers almost the same flavor from the beginning till the end. It will ghost your pipe for ever, be carfeful.

Code Red Cherry Mountain Dew frozen Slurpee from a 7-11 at 3am.

When a pipe tobacco does not need a humidor, you know it's been heavily sprayed with chemicals and it's here. The cherry flavoring is very strong, maybe the strongest I've ever tasted, even more so than the chemical onslaught of CAO Cherry Bomb. Lingering after-taste and pipe-ghosting. Luckily I have a pipe dedicated to cherry aromatics so it's not a catastrophe. Cherry is not unlike eating Sucrets cough drops by the handful.

Smokes hot and requires sipping to a whisper and it's not too bad and eliminates pipe-bite that way.

Stays surprisingly lit as if they added something like flash-paper shreds.

I almost exclusively smoke aromatics so I'm not as horrified; I prefer Sutliff and MacBaren. This is not a completely miserable smoke if you know what you're getting into. This is sort of trailer-trash stuff but sometimes it can be fun. It's not unlike eating 1985 Spencer's Gifts cherry edible underwear topped with cherry body whipped cream that numbs your tongue and senses. Like a cherry fruit roll-up that's been sitting under a car seat for 10 years and it's over 100 degrees outside and you "go for it" as it melts all over your hands and you question your life choices.

I bought simultaneously Lane Limited Very Cherry in comparison and LL's VC is notably better and less obscene. I was suspicious if LL (who makes CB) just copy-pasted their VC and sprayed preservatives to keep it "over the counter" quality.

I'd recommend this if you REALLY want a LOT of cherry flavoring and know how to SLOWLY smoke this thing. I mean, sometimes aromatic fans want a face punch of politically incorrect Funny Face Chinese Cherry from 1971 and zero tobacco flavor.

I'd recommend for the aromatic connoisseur in need of cherry: Mac Baren: Cherry Ambrosia Cult: Blood Red Moon Peter Stokkebye: Cherry Bon-Bon Sutliff: Cherry Cavandish Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal: Top Black Cherry

..and if you're immune to chemicals, CAO Cherry Bomb.

So this blend wasn’t Captain black good, the pouch smell was nice, smells like Ludens cough drops, however it did not translate well in the smoking. This blend tasted like smoking BLK cherry cigars by swisher sweets which those I love every once in a while, they have more cherry flavor though, through a filtered pipe it may be different but it did leave what felt like a film on my tongue which was displeasing, also 15 bucks was pretty steep for an average blend, there was very little aromatics with this as well. Would give it a pass as opposed to other blends of equal price

I decided to try this blend because I love the taste of cherries but was hestiant because a lot of people hated the cherry from captain. I also got to mix with a bad tobacco I got Peterson old Dublin. Not bad mixed together but a lot better by itself. I understand why a lot people don't like this blend because it does taste like a cherry cough drop after a while if not like syrup substance.

I most taste the black cavendish that's in the blend mixed high a very high dose of cherry casing. The casing is so strong you can smell it thru the bag unopened. Once you pack a bowl and lit up its not that potent to taste. Beginning to quarter of the bowl down its a relaxing cherry cavendish smoke which is very enjoyable. Then once you get to about half way down the cherry taste frys coarser and turns to a syrup liquid taste but not overpowering like some say that gives them headaches.

There are better cherry blends out there than this but it will do if your in a pinch and get the tobacco you really like. It's not good tobacco but its not terrible either. I didn't get a lot of tongue bite but I was smoking out of a churchwarden which probably why I enjoyed it so much. On re lights I did get some tongue bite but it was minor and annoying. But if you do smoke it too fast it will let you know and bite hard pretty much telling to stop for a second.

It's a decent aromatic to try and is cheap about 5 bux. But to some the cherry casing might be to overpowering so if you get some just smoke it slow and you be to go and will enjoy the cherry smoke. I think they did a good good considering its in the bottom of the barrel selection

I personally like Captain Black Tobacco, but just not this one. I liked the flavor of cherry which was very obvious in this tobacco. It has been a while since I have tried this one, so I cannot remember if this one had a bite or not. Well I would recommend it to a beginner, because it is a step up from those drug store brands.

If you have an your mother in-law coming over for the week and you want to stay on here good side...smoke this because its about 95% room note and the rest is a very neutral flavor that reminds me of eating bread.

Unfortunately because of this flavor it leaves me wanting more from this blend.

If i could somehow get a stronger flavor out of this then this would be the perfect company smoke which to me needs to have a universally pleasant room note and taste good too...Ill keep looking.

A little to overwhelming with the "cherry", however a small amount mixed with a whiskey cavendish isnt too bad.
