Ashton Consummate Gentleman
(3.05)
A proper English mixture composed of only the finest Virginia, Maryland and burley tobaccos with a pinch of latakia. The result is a remarkable blend that is medium bodied and traditionally English in character.

I bought 30 of these tins on clearance for $1.99. They have been in my cellar ever since. It comes in and out of my rotation in early spring. The tobacco is lite and very easy to pack. I like to roll this into my bowl just like my grandpa taught me. It lights very easy and burns to a very fine ash. It is a very light smoke and for whatever reason I always seem to smoke this faster than normal. Taste is light and I would not really call this a traditional English blend. It is more of an American remake lightened up to smoke pretty for the ladies.

I'm surprised this one has had some good reviews. My experience is that it has hardly any flavor, smokes very fast and hot, and bites. I smoked a couple of pipefuls then threw the tin away. Poor quality, bland, hot smoke. Not recommended.

This is an English mixture. Latakia can be definitely tasted. I couldn't guess any hint of burley. It is fast burning, it may also burn hot. It is highly recommended for someone who wants to taste Latakia in a quick smoke. I give to it 2 stars because I would prefer it to burn slower. Taste-wise it is ok-ish, but I find that compared to other latakia-based tobaccos its taste is not as good.

As some of the other reviewers have stated, this blend just has nothing that jumps out at you. It's rather bland in my opinion. With so many great blends out there, I would skip this one.

Just finished my first tin of Consumate Gentleman. This is not my usual favored Latakia blend, but I did enjoy it. The tin note is a sweeter Latakia note, not the brush fire note that I've come to appreciate. Packs nicely, lights easily, and burns evenly. None of the individual elements overpower, and I found myself enjoying it more as I smoked my way through the tin. Still not my favorite Lat blend, but will work it into the rotation.
Now for some minor packaging nitpicking. This may sound silly, but I enjoy opening a new tin and seeing the pleated paper all folded up neatly, then opening the pleats and lifting out the paper disk to take that first whiff. Well the pleats were smashed up and the paper disk was thin and soggy. I know this has no effect on the quality of the tobacco but presentation is important too. I think they could shell out the extra 1/2 penny and use stiffer paper for the disk. Silly, I know, but hey, its my money.

My local tobacco shop was out of Dunhill EMP so I decided to try this as a replacement. So far I am not impressed. I would describe it as an overpriced high quality blend that lacks any kind of flavor. Can I pretend I didn't open this and get my money back?

Having had a great time with Artisan's Blend, I was eager to try another English blend from Ashton. However, this one was a disappointment. The tin is beautiful, and the smell from the freshly opened tin is pleasant, but right after I lit it, I knew I wouldn't have another bowl. For me, the absence of Orientals, replaced by Burley, really doesn't work. It lacks the richness and depth that Orientals can provide, and instead, it adds a kind of nuttiness or light bitterness from the Burley, which just makes the blend bland and uninteresting. If you're looking for a lighter English blend, I wholeheartedly recommend the Presbyterian Mixture instead.

I decided for Consummate Gentleman over 965 this time around since I don’t get products from Ashton very often and can get 975 readily. It seems to be a well balanced English on the lines of 965, I just like 965 a little better. It smokes cool and dry with the nic hit I enjoy. An all day smoke for me with enough Latakia to let ya know it’s there. A solid 3.5.

Solid blend, it can go as all day smoke for english blend lovers.
It is not strong in flavour but i wouldn’t called it dull.
Great for quick smoke, solid “bench” player for your rotation.
