(2.87)
Sweet Coconut Twist is an old style rope tobacco from Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. flavored with the island scent of coconut.
Sweet Rum Twist - The main feature of this tobacco is the addition of inverted sugars blended and coconut to the 'filter' leaf. This is then spun into a rope form before being made into a roll which is cold-pressed overnight

I tried this rope in hopes that a Coconut flavor would be quite strongly imparted but alas, it's just another monochromatic black rope. Frankly, the strength of the rope dominated the little bit of Coconut flavoring that I smelled on the top of the tobacco.
If you like the ropes then this may do the trick for you. Otherwise, pass this one up unless it's a free sample.

This was my first venture into the Twist arena. After trying it moist and dry (both separated) I cannot detect a coconut taste at all. I do taste a cigar type aftertaste however. Also the room note has a hint of cigars also. Although I find this a once and a while change from the aromatics I generally lite up. I do not particularly enjoy it. I may update my posting later after I have a bot more experience with the rope preparation.

Simply, ghastly. What an unspeakable tragedy it is that Gawith Hoggarth & Co. took their glorious rope tobacco and applied this horrendous topping to it. I love GH&Co tobacco and Lakeland blends in general but Sweet Coconut Twist is retch-inducing.

A previous reviewer has said that "coconut" and "tobacco" are words that don't belong in the same sentence. Couldn't agree more. I'm not sure what the flavour actually is (it doesn't taste like coconut to me), but I don't like it and I don't think tobacco should taste of it. Each to his own; some people like it, after all. Try it (in a small bowl) if you like a smoke with an arresting flavour. It's cool and slow, which are plus points; but so are many tobaccos that don't violate the taste-buds in the way that this one does. It's as rough as a badger's ear if you smoke it too quickly. If my aged grandma got down on her poor old bony knees and begged me to smoke it, I would. Not otherwise, though. SWMBO and Klio were very satirical about the room note. Klio rushed outside, rolled on the grass, and presently brought a dead mouse in. Says it all, really.

Absolutly Vile, no coconut taste whatsoever more like a novelty cigar purchased in china town. not even worth the effort of cutting and drying the rope. left an awefull taste in my mouth similar to some sort of hotel shampoo.

Upon opening this bag I was greeted by a mild Toasted Coconut aroma and a medium Almond and a medium earthy background. I cut the rope up with my hunting knife into a coarse cut and left it sit out for 45 minutes on a paper towel. Unfortunately after loading and lighting I decided to remove and leave out for another hour and a half. The reason was it was hard to light and wouldn't stay lit past 2 sips no matter how much I puffed to get it lit. That is fine I I like to sip, but to get the flavor it takes a few sips. When "lit" this smokes profusely and leaves a tolerable room note. I think this could be a all day smoke if one could keep it lit. Burns super slow even when it feels dry. Despite claims otherwise this will slightly nip you if you puff hard and if puffed slightly it gives one a cigar taste, which is great if you like that in your pipe tobacco. The heavy smoke lingers long but is sort of ncie to look at. Surprisingly no moisture in the bowl when finished a hour and a half later. Burned down to a dark ash. During the few sips I could get in a row this left a lightly sweet aftertaste of coconut and almond. The last quarter of the bowl grew bitter and after done smoking I tasted a mixed aftertaste of slightly sweet coconut, a slight bitter taste and some cigar.
Upon "lighting" and I use that term loosely, I was greeted by a nice lightly sweet coconut and a mildly sweet almond. There was a mild earthy taste in the background and that is all I could taste except when puffing a bit to see what it would do. What it did was threw a lot of wonderful smoke, had a cigar taste come forth, slightly nipped and 30 seconds later went out.
I have a rather mixed reaction to this. I had some quick short lived enjoyment of the flavors I could find, love the smoke, I like smoky smokes, was nice to find no moisture in the bowl, enjoyed what others called a tolerable room note but the constantly relighting and hardly any long term tasting while sipping, and not finding anything in taste other than he coconut, almond and earthy flavors that seemed to play okay together left me feeling that this was a smoke that offered little enjoyment. The flavors that I tasted for short quick lights were pleasant., Would I buy it? No and I am grateful my friend gave me this to try. I give this a 2 out of 4 stars. I do think everyone should try it for it isn't bad but it is rather more annoying to smoke despite almost 2 and a half hours of drying on a paper towel under a ceiling fan. I know friends who would love this, but it just isn't the twist I need in my life for it isn't my cup of tea flavor-wise.
Update- tried this multiple times and disliked it more each time. 1 star rating.
