I like this tobacco for many reasons. I think it blends well but it is nice on its own too. To my nose there is some fruitiness in the pouch but it is nothing that I would classify as an aromatic. It slowly burns down to a nice white as and never gets too hot, giving my blending habits I like this one mixed in with some Englishes that I think smoke a bit hot.

Slow smoking, relatively full tasting burley with little casing. Can become a bit harsh and bitter. Unaffected by aging.

Pack loosely but be careful of spills.

If you are a Virginnia/ Burley fan you owe it to yourself to try this one. When you want a no-nonsense tobacco with plenty of punch, fire up a small to medium bowl with this smooth and rich cube cut mixture.

09-22-04 there is not much to say other than this is a staple of mine that I always come back to when taking breaks from all the other tobacs I smoke. My friends always harass me because I smoke this blend, but I guess it reminds me so much of my deceased Father, I just have to have this in my rotation always. You either like the Burley grassiness or you don't. Packs easily, lights easily, has a nutty, sweet finish. I find it as a nice palate cleanser. Lastly, you do have to smoke it like a VA otherwise it will bite your tongue.

I picked up a one-ounce sample of this when purchasing several other 1 oz bulk samples from PS. Overall, I feel PS makes some of the finest budget bulk offerings and this blend was no exception. In fact, if it had a little more heft to it, I would easily put this at four star, but it was just a little too mild for me.

From what I understand this is a virginia/burley mix that has been subjected to a cavendish treatment. This treatment makes this a mild bite free experience which makes smoking this an easy feat. In fact, it can be smoked mindlessly while attending to tasks without the irritating mouth burn that can so often follow such pursuits. It is nutty sweet yet, from what I can tell there is no topping.

Overall, I wish this just had a little more body and strength to it for my personal tastes, but I still managed to smoke through this one-ounce sample in an incredibly short amount of time. If I was still buying tobacco, I would likely get some more of this one. Since this is a rather innocuous cube cut, I could see where many would benefit by just putting this at the base of the bowl while filling the rest with any other blend to make for a better smoking experience of that latter blend. Cube cuts burn nice and even whereas many ribbon cuts suffer as you near the bottom of the bowl. Lining the base with a cube cut eliminates this problem.

A robust, straightforward smoke. Pack loose and sip slow, with Virginia technique, or it might bite.

Bone dry, it's also a great base layer for any tobaccos on top.

As a straight smoke, it's best behaved in tall, narrow chamber. Good for cobs, but can plug the airway. Pack accordingly.

A good break-in, cake building tobacco, at a budget price. Even if the smoke doesn't suit you, keep an aired-out jar handy for every new or refurbished pipe in your arsenal.

PS41. This blend definitely needs to be talked about more. Most people pass it off as a blending tobacco or are scared of by the cut. This stuff is excellent by itself and the cut is easy to work with after a little practice. I like to slightly rub it out and gravity fill. Wider more shallow pipes work best as it tends to expand quite a bit. May require a few extra re-lights but nothing cumbersome. Be sure to use a pipe cleaner to block the airway when packing. Nice naturally sweet and nutty flavor. The virginia and burley blend perfectly together. Hints of cocoa and spice from time to time. If you are a virginia smoker that wants something slightly different with a little more body this is it. If you are a burley smoker that wants something with a little more sweetness but still smooth this is it. If you have tried burley blends and they are a little to strong or harsh give this a try. It is much more friendly.

PS41 Cube Cut is, as the name implies, a cube cut blend of Burleys and Virginias. From the bulk sample I received, the blend was a little on the moist side, and for me it required some drying time. Through the tin note, I can pickup the Burleys and Virginias separately. There is a honey/brown sugar topping that is apparent.

Upon lighting, the Burleys are up front and center. They are rich, with deep molasses, cocoa, earth, and spices, and are mildly sweet. The Virginias are right behind the Burleys and compete for attention. They are sweet, tangy, and bright with notes of fruit, citrus, grass, and a fruity note from time to time. The toppings are present in every puff. I taste honey and brown sugar. They play well with the tobaccos in the blend, and add an additional touch of sweetness as well. The toppings fade as the bowl progresses, but never completely drop off.

Cube Cut is difficult to light and goes out frequently, so be ready for some relights. I find matches work better with this blend then a regular lighter. It burns a little hot and sports a rough edge, so smoke slowly or you may experience tongue bite. It left a little moisture in the bowl, but not much. The flavor was medium and the strength was a little below that. Not quite an all day blend for me, as I don’t think my body chemistry would allow it. 2.25 out of 4 stars.

The cut reminds me a lot of steel cut oats, or grape nuts. Ready to smoke immediately & Packs easily enough. Tin note is of sweet caramel and bourbon.

I'm first greeted with strong wood notes. I actually wonder if they're an additive, it's that strong, particularly cedar and oak. I also get molasses, vanilla, caramel, hay, oats and toasted bread, the bottom of the bowl gains sweetness and a tiny bit of cocoa. The burley here is less of your normal nuts and chocolate affair, and more earth and woodiness. The flavorings are delightful and add just enough complexity to make things interesting. It's got a good bit of sweetness and a bit of a vanilla bourbon flavor. It is rather bitey if your not patient or just plain susceptible to tongue bite, so tread carefully. Mild nicotine content, but it is noticible after a big bowl. Burns rather slowly.

The subtle sweetness and toppings remind me a lot of MacBarens Scottish mixture and Symphony, both in the way it smokes, and the way it melds tobacco with subtle flavorings so perfectly. It has a quality about it almost like a bowl of porridge or oatmeal with a little bit of brown sugar. Simple, mouthwatering, and has a soul-warming quality I can't quite explain. Simply put: It just works for me.
