McClelland Frog Morton Across the Pond

(2.85)
Remarkably cool-smoking, delightfully fragrant. Frog Morton journeyed far across the pond to find the exotic components for this rich, smooth pipe tobacco blend enhanced with rare Syrian Latakia. He says it was worth the trip.
Notes: The name Frog Morton comes to us from the works of JRR Tolkien. Frogmorton: A village in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. It stood on the East Road, between the Three-farthing Stone (fourteen miles to the west) and the Brandywine Bridge (twenty-two miles to the east). Immediately to the north of the village, the stream known as the Water broke into two, creating a wide watery region - this feature seems to have given Frog Morton its name, which means "frog marsh".

While my favorite of the Frog Series remains "On The Town", This blend is second. It behaves less like an aromatic than any of the others, but I still prefer a little more latakia in my blends. nov04

I really like this blend. A great change of pace from the original Frog and it sure is delicious! I first tried Syrian Latakia in Bohemian Scandal and I'm pleased McClelland has taken up the cause and is using it in many of its blends also. Fantastic Stuff!

Not a bad smoke if you want something with latakia that remains mild and pleasant. The room note isn't exactly roses but compared to most blends containing latakia, it's very tolerable. It tastes good and doesn't bite. Not a bad smoke at all.

The best of the new McClellands using Syrian latakia. The usual Frogmorton sweetness in addition to the latakia. Drier than most McClellands. Not bad, but not for me.

This, 4th in the Frog Morton series, the most interesting I've tried. I have to say, this reminds me most of all, not surprisingly, of FMOT replacing what little bit of Cyprian latakia with a slightly larger portion or Syrian -- this adds sweetness and strength.

In the can, this blend looks dark and inviting. The Syrian's light brown leaves stick out from the black of the other ribbons. This is a cool burning blend for the most part -- of course with the correct amount of drying out of the can before loading. It can bite, but you really have to be puffing.

8 stars out of 10.
