Very light flavor with a hint of vanilla. Not much to comment on because not much to smell or taste.

Soft aromatic with VA + Vanilla. Not being a fan of Vanilla sometimes I wonder why is this the most common flavoring for aromatic tobacco. Somehow disappointed about this blend after trying other JFH masterpieces. Dont get me wrong it is good and I will give it a second chance... there is just some better.
Note: there is great discrepancy in the reviews of JFH tobaccos. I wonder if their bulks are just not very consistent/homogeneous so depending on how lucky you are you get something that in fact is always different.

I bought the LOTR sampler thinking this and Toby would be my favorites but it turns out I liked them the least of the five blends. I did like this blend better than Old Toby , but Mushrooms and Ruins are much better. Again it might be that I favor aromatics more than regular blends but I wanted to enjoy this but I did not "do it" for me.

Obvious Virginia medley going on here, with elements of expected hay. Vanilla is drizzled lightly here as well as a secondary flavor, giving an early summertime, country-field smoke. Also hidden seems to be a bit of unripe, green-red strawberry happening here as a back, tertiary-flavor that was unexpected but welcome to some depth, and maybe (just maybe) a drop of unripe honeydew melon.
This starts out seemingly one dimensional but improves as it goes and is tasty.
There are so many "Longbottom Leaf" blend promises out there; this one is decent and not overly aromatically cased. This can be an all-day smoke and be puffed absentmindedly to turn your thoughts to other things as it should be. It's not "legendary" good, but it's good. I can see how it can be a "taste of home" as was written in the books it's based-on, something soft and light with a late-spring, early-summer feel going on, warm and early British countryside warm-feel of sunshine. It's good. Not super-awesome, but good and wholesome, and if you sit with it, has a bit of dimension and depth. Just a bit.

As a newer pipe smoker, I am mainly exploring the different blends (I favor aromatic blends, although I am dipping my toes into the non-aromatic blends now) to find what I like.
Like many others, I am a huge fan for Tolkien! So naturally I wanted to try some of the available themed blends out there. So far as of 2021 the only easily obtained commercial versions are from The Country Squire and Just for Him. This review is for the "Longbottom Leaf" blend from the Just For Him series, there are 5 currently available blends.
Opening the bag, what I smelled was a little of the Virginia (hay) and a smidgen of vanilla, but mostly something sweet I could not put my finger on.
The flavor I tasted was mild tobacco with some sweetness but not any single flavor I could point out. While I am glad I got/tried this due to the series appreciation, I will not be getting this again.
I did not have to dry this out before smoking as it was semi-moist, I also did not have any tounge-bite with this blend.

This is another shire blend, from just for Him, and as always they nailed the smooth no-bite smoke perfect. I could taste the Virginia and a hint of vanilla, just not strong enough. It was a mild easy going smoke. I will try it some more as it had a ghost of sweetness and never was a biter. there seems to be certain blends that some smokers can taste and others cannot, so far Ruins of Isengard is the one i can really enjoy the full and distinct flavors, this offering of longbottom leaf was a little short on the flavor, just whisps and hints. nice nic content, but not a top shelf choice for me.

I give Longbottom Leaf a solid 7 out of 10. I like it better than Shortcut to Mushrooms. The flavor does change toward the end of the bowl, but not unpleasantly. It's almost like getting two blends in one.
A good choice for aromatic fans looking for something a little richer.

This was the first pipe tobacco I ever smoked. Unlit it smells like licorice or horehound candy. The day I smoked it was very windy but it lit easily and I only had to relight once 3/4th of the way down and the only help I got for packing and lighting was from youtube videos
This is an excellent beginners tobacco.

i found that this had very little bite which i found nice for a new pipe smoker, but near the end of the bowl i found the taste to start to bitter. you could also tell it was a very wet smoke at the end
