This is the fifth and final Middle Earth Blend I tried. It is listed as purely Virginia with a Vanilla casing. I definately think there is some other types of tobacco blended in there. Maybe a little Burley or even Latakia but maybe my tastebuds lie. It has a sweetness but to me really isn't pure Vanilla, almost a honey/nut flavouring to it. Like all other Middle Earth blends it lit well, stayed lit, little to no tongue bite. I highly recommend this blend, I think this and Old toby are the two top MEB in the series. They all have high quality ingredients and are perfect for hiking in the woods, picnicks etc. Or reading/watching the Tolkien books/films as they were inspired by. The blender as a note to ALL these blends is very thoughtful with what and how much of the ratios of ingredients go into them. They could all stand on their own but I think Longbottom Leaf is mild enough to be an all day smoke but interesting enough not to get borring.

Obvious Virginia medley going on here, with elements of expected hay. Vanilla is drizzled lightly here as well as a secondary flavor, giving an early summertime, country-field smoke. Also hidden seems to be a bit of unripe, green-red strawberry happening here as a back, tertiary-flavor that was unexpected but welcome to some depth, and maybe (just maybe) a drop of unripe honeydew melon.
This starts out seemingly one dimensional but improves as it goes and is tasty.
There are so many "Longbottom Leaf" blend promises out there; this one is decent and not overly aromatically cased. This can be an all-day smoke and be puffed absentmindedly to turn your thoughts to other things as it should be. It's not "legendary" good, but it's good. I can see how it can be a "taste of home" as was written in the books it's based-on, something soft and light with a late-spring, early-summer feel going on, warm and early British countryside warm-feel of sunshine. It's good. Not super-awesome, but good and wholesome, and if you sit with it, has a bit of dimension and depth. Just a bit.

The vanilla is very noticeable in this blend, but it does not overpower the Virginias. They blend perfectly! This is a wonderful aromatic tobacco that I love to smoke and be around others smoking. If this is what Longbottom Leaf was really like, those little Hobbits certainly did have some of the finest pipe-weed.

One of the best I've had and will be ordered again. Burns very well and no bite. Wife says it smells good too... not that it matters.

The virginias in this blend are what stand out more than the topping. While not a harsh tobacco blend, the virginias in it can bite a novice if smoked too fast. The vanilla topping is mild so as not to be overpowering, but is definitely there. It has a clean, unique taste and pleasant aroma. It can easily be used as an all day smoke.
