Tavern Tobacco Co. Thunder Road
(3.29)
After the nightly run over Thunder Road was completed, the moonshiners from the backwoods of N.C. and Tennessee would stop by their favorite joint for a quick one and tales of close calls with the Revenue men. Their favorite smoke was this blend of VAs with a touch of perique smooth with a little kick, just like the white lightnin' they made. A smooth yet powerful blend of five different Virginias with a touch of perique.

Tavern Tobacco has hit the nail on the head with another great blend. Recently, one of my customers and I were talking about the great Virginia/Perique blends of the world, such as G.L. Pease Stratford and Solani 633. He highly recommended that I try Thunder Road. When I opened the tin I enjoyed a soft and sweet aroma that was right in the middle of bright Virginia flake and dark-stoved. It was a much softer aroma than you get with dark-stoved and richer than with bright flake. The color is rich, ranging from golden to nut brown to dark brown. The smoke is complex, smooth and full. Towards the bottom of the bowl, rather than becoming tart or acrid, this blend downshifts to a creamy flavor that make smoking the bowl all the way down a pleasure rather than a challenge. I thouroughly enjoyed this tobacco and will look forward to discovering new aspects of this complex blend.

I moved to Knoxville, TN last summer and took up pipe collecting and smoking shortly after getting settled. I have become a regular at the Knoxville Cigar Company's store in the area of town called "The Old City." I often smoke Tavern Tobacco products because they are great. Thunder Road is absolutely wonderful and smokes just as the label reads, "A smooth yet powerful blend of five Virginias with a touch of Perique." I love to load up one of my "Old City Briar's", made by William Ashton Taylor for the Knoxville Cigar Company, and smoke while enjoying an iced tea and a game of cards with my friends.
When compared to other VA/perique blends (2015, Acadian Ribbon, Black Parrot, etc...) Thunder Road is a delicate tasty treat.
Eat, drink, play cards and smoke this tobacco and your life will be truly enriched.
