Back when I first bought a pipe I bought a one pound bag of this and thought why did I ever start smoking a pipe. Luckilly I have moved on to truly great tobacco's. This tobacco isn't one of the greats. Use in desperation if you dare.

Similar to Captain Black Gold, which is to say that this is also a pale boring vanilla cavendish. This does not taste bad, but it doesn't taste good either. If you want a good vanilla aromatic, there are much better out there.

This review is to the novice pipe smoker, this blend of pipe tobacco first off is a liberal amount of burley and Cavendish which I am sure is pressed and steamed burley and they toss in some Virginia to smooth it out but by the looks of it the Virginia is in there so its not a pinch amount. With that being said this is Prince Albert and is a all American pipe tobacco aimed to satisfy the all day smoker. Middleton makes this tobacco blend so no matter what you here about the so called OTC pipe tobacco it is top quality tobacco and is designed to please which it does hands down. It has a mild topper of vanilla and some form of whiskey and is on the sugar side of casing so it will give you a smooth smoke with a sweet tone and will have character plus it will not bite of you don't smoke like a chimney. Its mild on the nicotine but if you inhale will satisfy and if not will do the job after about 15 mins or so of smoking and it taste good all around. Its basic but good and its not to moist or to dry, some old school smokers prefer this blend dry giving a nutty taste with a velvet feel and maintains its sweet notes of vanilla but not to strong. If your looking for a good smoke this will do the job. Its worth trying and I would recommend it because I know its a good smoke and don't be thrown off by bogus reviews because its good tobacco. Prince Albert Soft Vanilla Cavendish is a good product thumbs up go for it!!!

this is a very pleasant pipe tobacco. I was looking around when I was at my tobbaconist a few months ago and had a few extra dollars so I was looking for a pipe tobacco which was more flavorful than SWR aromatic ( its the only one I had smoked so far ) and saw prince alberts soft vanilla it was at the rigt price and the bag smelled simply amazing !!! I also picked up some carter hall pipe tobacco/ captain black royal/ and SWR regular. anyways out of the bunch as soon as I got back into my truck after purchasing this blend I just had to try it and it was delicious it smelled and tasted of vailla its not ver strong nut its there noticeable and pleasant plus made my truck smell very good an as a bonus my girlfriend loves the smell 🙂 if you are a new usuer or just someone who wants something flavorful to try that's sure to put a smile on your face try prince alberts soft vanilla its an excellent economical choice and doesn't burn all that hot unless you really puff away at it and iv never had any trouble getting it to burn. now if only they made it in those large tubs !!! hahaha if only they made a soft chocolate 🙂

PSits my favorite blend I LOVE SOFT VANILLA !!!!!

I found this at Costco a few years ago ($25 for a 9oz. bag) and decided to give it a try. The pouch aroma is great -- in fact the entire tobacco room at the Costco where I bought it reeks of vanilla thanks to a couple dozen bags of this stuff. It's not bad. It's not great either.

As others have noted, the pouch aroma is great. It's not a bad Cavendish blend. But there's not a whole lot of flavour to it -- too mild for me. I've also found that it needs to dry a bit before smoking. Right out of a fresh pouch it smokes very wet and very hot with lots of bite. It also gets very bitter when it burns hot, but that said, it's also got a consistent but mild bitterness to it all the time. My wife has a real nose for room note and complains that there's something "wrong" with this tobacco. Others seem to like it.

Overall, it's not a bad deal for the money if you want something cheap, but you can do a lot better.

I've smoked so far 2 pouches of this stuff, and everytime i do it is because people ask me to do so, the smoke smells great, but when you have it in your mouth you just can't get the taste of it, it also tastes bitter if you smoke it too fast, nice for a change of pace but there's better vanilla aromatics out there.

Have more than an occasional penchant for a good vanilla aromatic, this did not make the grade. I refer to this blend as the ?incredible steam machine? as I could detect no flavor but it produces prodigious amounts of mouth scalding steam.

Well, I’ll be reviewing a 1 1/2 pouch which is at least 7-8 years old, so take that into consideration.

The tin note is mostly vanilla and pudding with some forest fruist.

The tobacco was just a bit dry, but not crumbling, it was good to pack directly. Presents itself with mostly brown bits with a few black and dark gold. The cut is quite small.

Now here’s the most interesting part, the taste and aroma. First notes that I detected were of liquor. Creamy vanilla notes are starting to develop right away, along with the alcoholic liquor flavors, and they combine very well. Some forest fruits can also be detected, and a soft irish whisky taste.

The cavendish and burley are well balanced and I’m glad I don’t get a cavendish kick out of this (which is curious, because the blend is mostly cavendish and black cavendish). Doesn’t taste chemical either. It is quite smooth and creamy and indeed, soft, not overcased or overtopped. Even so, lots of flavors can be detected.

If you smoke half a bowl and then let it sit for a few hours, you’ll get lots of nutty and chocolate notes, as well as some cinnamon, most probably from the burley.

Burns excellent, doesn’t bite or deliver hot smoke, but it tends to get the pipe a bit hot.

Room note: Quite strong, but also very pleasant. It’s like walking into a pastry shop/cake shop.

If I could use words to describe this blend, they would be: Soft, creamy, balanced, tasty, super-easy-to-smoke.

I’m not an aromatics fan, in fact I rarely find an aromatic that I really like. This is one of the very few.

Underrated blend!

One of the first blends I smoked ever. I really enjoyed it. I still have some on hand and smoke it regularly. It is a simple, cheap, OTC vanilla aromatic, but it gets the job done.

It was recommended to me because I was a new pipe smoker, and I'm glad that it was. I feel if another cheap OTC had been recommended (for example something like Red Cap, which I now enjoy but only because I have more experience with smoking and tobacco) I would have shied away from the hobby.

In the pouch it smells like any other vanilla aromatic does to me, although it does seem a little lighter of a scent, but not by much. Was easy to pack and light, stayed lit for me very well.

It tastes a little sweet to me, with some vanilla undertones, but the vanilla was light. It wasn't overpowering and was enjoyable to sit down and smoke a bowl. The flavors tend to mix well and I enjoyed every minute of smoking it.

The room note was pleasant and undisturbing, and I had some friends ask me what I was smoking, due to the smell which they liked. Not loved, but liked.

Overall I would recommend this blend to anyone who is a fan of John Middleton blends, Prince Albert, or vanilla aromatics to try, as well as any new pipe smokers.
