Very few blends can satisfy me as Haunted Bookshop. The toasted nuttiness of the burley pairs perfectly with the subtle sweetness of Red Virginia 🍂. The peppery perique provides both spice and dried fruit components that cradle the blend fully. I’ll admit that Matches 860 introduced me to HB and I’m forever thankful. This blend is a no nonsense straight-up enjoyment for me. Something I can plug in and play at any moment. It currently resides as the first smoke of my day with ☕️. A simple pleasure every time.

I love this blend, I decided to try it after trying Pegasus and loving it. There is an earthy, musty, comforting Burley base to the flavor of this tobacco, over which the Perique provides some spicy highlights. There's enough sweetness from the Virginia, I find this blend has a great melding of the flavors into one delicious treat.

It does pack a nicotine punch and if I pack to big of a bowl, I'm likely to end up woozy.

I consider the three C&D blends of Old Joe Krantz, Haunted Bookshop and Riverboat Gambler to be closely related family members. However, I consider Riverboat Gambler to be the best of all three because, for me, it combines the best of the other two and then some!

Haunted Bookshop is a delightful and very mild blend. Virtually a non-aromatic. The extremely light topping strikes me as possibly just a touch of Anise. I consider it a non-aro. I enjoy the quality leaf, the easy light and comfortable smoke it delivers. I do highly recommend it. But you should also try the other two as well or you will be missing something.

This is an excellent blend for Burley lovers but it has a bit more character than a pure Burley. This is something that I welcome in a blend of this type.

Enjoy it. It could be an easy all day smoke if you are looking for one. It is a good investment and will likely not let you down.

From bulk Haunted Bookshop comes on the dryer side and ready to smoke. It’s a ribbon cut with a few larger chinks and broken flakes thrown in. The tin the note is earthy, nutty, musty, a little sour, with a touch of fruit.

Upon lighting the Burley leads and smacks you in the face. It’s a pleasant punch if you’re a Burley lover. It’s earthy, nutty, with light cocoa. Walnuts come to mind. The VAs are Red and offer a hint of sweetness, with a little fruit and spice. It trails behind the Burley by a few paces. The Perique is used as a little more than a condiment. It’s plumy with a bit of a black pepper kick and spice. You have to be a burley lover to enjoy this one I think, but it is an amazing blend once you “get it”.

Haunted Bookshop plays well. It takes to flame well and stays lit without hassle. It doesn’t get hot, but can offer a sharp, rough, cigarette note if puffed aggressively. It left a clean dry bowl behind and a very fine ash. I don’t think it is as strong in the Nicotine department as some folks let on. It’s not light, but it isn’t heavy. It lets you know it is present and when you’re done with a bowl you’ll feel “full” after but not stuffed. It goes great with morning coffee and also after a meal. 3.75 out of 4 stars.

I MADE HAUNTED BOOKSHOP LITE!

First off, I love HB! It's my go to early morning with a strong cup of coffee blend. Being a former cigarette smoker and current user of smokeless tobacco products as well as keeping my pipe going all day, nicotine has very little effect on me , and I've never been "knocked over" by HB or any other baccy for that matter. That being said, I do find the flavor of HB to be a little too strong and rough around the edges to puff on from dawn till dusk.

ENTER HAUNTED BOOKSHOP LITE!

Ingredients: 70% HB + 30% Prince Albert.

I find that the young, soft, lightly topped burley of PA melds perfectly with the stout, nutty, deep burley flavors of HB. The PA also smooths out the Perique spiciness on retrohale. It's still there, but just barely.

I might try an 80/20 mix to see if the perique is a little more detectable.

I have only tried this mix with prince albert thus far, though I'm sure it would work fine with any OTC burley (ie: carter hall, half and half) or any milder burley forward blend.

In closing "hanunted bookshop lite" is absolutely something I could smoke all day every day. Anyone who is a burleyphile like myself would probably agree.

P.S. I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever think of this and I'm not claiming to reinvent the wheel, just loving this mix so much I felt compelled to share.

Tin note: I get nutty wheat/oats and raisins. Flavor/aroma: Earthy. Nutty. Hay. A little fruit. Pepper. I taste the subtle sweetness of the Virginia the more it ages. Haunted Bookshop is definitely one of my top 5. I am a burley lover, and a deep appreciator of virginias, especially red, and perique. This blend is perfect for what it is. The aroma is pleasant. Cigaretty here and there if you puff aggressively, but even then, only what you’d expect from a premium cigarette, if there is a cigarette of that level of quality these days. It’s never bitten me. Smoked this stuff in every kind of pipe pleasantly. Gets world’s better with 6-months aging in your cellar or more. It’s cool smoking and fairly slow smoking even when it’s slightly dry. Won’t bite. The vitamin N is past medium, edging on strong, but if you’re sensitive, you might rate it stronger.

This is one of my favorite blends of all time. This virginia burley mix has the perfect amount of perique giving it the perfect strength. Everyone should give this a try if you like perique.

I was worried that this was going to be very similar to Old Joe Krantz as its ingredients seem simalar in the description. Haunted Bookshop seems to be a milder, sweeter, blend and is not similar to OJK. The perique and virginia are more pronounced in this blend in my opinion. I could easily smoke this all day.
