Two Friends Heritage

(3.00)
A sophisticated, traditional American style blend! Red and lemon Virginias are blended in perfect measure with mild brown and unflavored black cavendish tobaccos, and a bit of fine, high grade burley leaf for just a little extra body. The blend is then delicately kissed with a subtle and intriguing flavor, enhancing the natural sweetness of the Virginias and providing a delightful, light room aroma.
Notes: From SmokingPipes: Fans of Virginia/burley blends will surely love this unsung blend, comprised of red and bright Virginias, dark and white burley, and a touch of unsweetened black cavendish. Easy to pack and light, this smooth sailing smoke offers up layer upon layer of naturally sweet VA flavor balanced with creamy chocolate notes from the burleys, and all enhanced with a lovely topping of plum, rum, and maple. The topping is understated, and works well to accentuate the depth and complexity of the tobaccos used. Created by Greg Pease and the late Craig Tarler, the two friends of "Two Friends Pipe Tobacco," this blend was Craig's every day smoke for years.

I have never heard of Lemon Virginia before and was curious to test a possible marketing ploy, that coupled with how good Two Friend's English Chocolate was, meant it was time to buy me some Heritage.

The open tin meant business, with a sour (Lemon?) and spicy leather scent that commanded attention even weeks after opening. I was pretty giddy to dig in. The thin Virginia ribbons had a nice mix of Cavendish bits, that were all perfectly dry and eager for fire. Sparked into a rolling cherry that never went out.

Reminded me of a quality cigarette without any distracting fillers; full in body, yet not overly strong in nicotine. As far as a Lemon zest here? I wasn't too sure, but I could be convinced it was bringing a bit of the Oriental-ish spice to the party.

For me, it was a fine smoke, even with it's inviting tin presence. I'm just an Aromatic fan at heart, and when it comes to those rare moments I want a Virginia product, it pales to Squadron Leader and the likes... Still I don't want to dissuade fans of those genre, it did feel like a quality product and a possible 3 star.

I was surprised to see that there had not been a new review in a couple of years.

I tend to think overall the Two Friends line is overlooked compared to the tobaccos in the GLP line. My favorite is honestly the Valle Crucis, which also was my introduction to the line.

Popping the tin, the tin note was rum to my nose. The tobacco was a mix of dark to light, all ribbon cut. Moisture level was a little higher than many CD tins but flipping it over, I noticed the date tag is 9-16-19 so it is freshly tinned.

Easy to pack and light. First part of the bowl was rum topped with a darker fruit which I'll believe is the plum. Not overpowering at all but leading the way over the tobaccos behind it.

Down through the middle of the bowls, the rum seemed to fade and I picked up on the burley which seemed to dominate this section. Nuttiness I guess. More nic hit. A little acidic in the retrohale and aftertaste.

Bottom third of the bowls seemed to me to be the most bland. I didn't get much out of the last, the topping is mostly gone (little hints of the plum still now and then to the end) and it smokes like many other blends without a lot of character down in the end. Burns great to ash, no real moisture to talk about, no tongue bite.

Always leaves an aftertaste in my mouth which is that plum to almost fig.. I like to pair it with a darker rum as a drink. That seems to compliment it nicely.

Overall, its been a good but not great blend. I think folks who enjoy rum topped aros will be a little disappointed in it. I think on its own.. its a nice treat but NOT an all day smoke with the aftertaste. It's a 2 star to me.

I don't favor aromatic blends like I did many years ago, but I really like Heritage. The room note alone is enough to keep some of this on hand; if they smoke pipe tobacco in heaven (and why wouldn't they?) this is exactly what it would smell like. I would give it 4 stars if not for a bit of inconsistency. The first half of the tin is extraordinary, however the potency of this blend fades once the tin is opened and by the last half is quite bland and void of the many good characteristics that that make it desirable in the first place. Perhaps this is a reflection of poor quality tobacco or not, I cannot say for sure.

Like many have stated, this is the perfect all day blend for the VA smoker. Yeah I know that there is some burley/cavendish in there to, but the VA really takes charge in this blend. As a matter of fact I am smoking a bowl of this as I post. Greg and Craig you guys hit a home run with this one!

Very good blend. One of my favourite. 2 virginias, burley, brown and black cavendish. When you open the tin you can smell a sweet-scented dessert: sour-cherry - chocolate - cognac. 3 in 1. The aroma is not heavy but very pleasant. Tipically everyday aromatic tobacco for me. It was the competiton tobacco of the pipe smoking team world cup in 2007. Slow burning, easy to fill.

For a year or so, the Two Friends line was my favorite selection of tobaccos, due in large part to their somewhat offbeat nature. This isn't one of my favorite blends, but it is a worthy all-day smoke for Va lovers. For a mixture containing a lot of lively Vas, this has very little bite. The Cavendish adds a perfect amount of smoothness, and the burley provides enough body to give it a satisfying kick. It is definitely topped with some kind of mild flavor, but I can't quote identify it. This is good stuff, and I completely understand the praise it receives, but I'm not exactly head-over-heels for it. YMMV, of course.

Gotta love this. The virginias and cavindish play the main stage on this one. The cav is topped with something vaguely familiar, but you got me what it is- I first smelled this the day I met Craig Tarler. He was smoking a beautiful pipe (whose heritage is unknown to me- no pun intended)- and the most intriging smell was eminating from it. I asked what it was, and left with a sample that day. Closest thing to an aromatic I can stand- and strangly- I love the stuff. Can be bity during full moons- Meaning the ryme or reason is beyond me. Can be the smoothest smoke in a Kaywoodie or Mini Church, and bite you in the same pipes next week- So use caution- But it's definatly worth the risk.

It is the best of both worlds. the great CD-style of quality and taste and it makes the car and hoome smell fantastic. I like the description "angel food cake" but alas, it is really not that strong of a topping just a hint so you do not gag. smooth, spicy a great american tobacco. also, I have been thinking about if this is kosher to put here in the review pr not but my "what the hell' side took over: - I live in the western side of NC where Cornell and Deihl reside and was extremely lucky enough to go for a visit and meet Mr Tarler. I had a wonderful time and my friend who had been there before, came again with me and we both would recommend it a tobacco destination for all who can get there. Why do i bring this up in this reveiw? Because with all the of the tobacco in bags, cans, and tins sitting around Mr. Tarler's Desk which is situated in the shop as a conductor before a symphony - he smokes this blend all day long. That alone speaks Volumes. Thanks to Mr and Mrs tarler for the experience.

I am a big fan of most of Pease's blends, so I thought it was high time I tried an offering from the Two Friends brand. I expected to like it, but I never expected to like it this much.

Good Virginia blends are among the most enjoyable tobaccos for me, and this is a great Virginia blend. There is a perfect balance between natural sweetness of the red Virginias and the tang of the yellow (lemon) Virginia, mellowed by the Cavendish. While there are many blends of tobaccos, from many brands, that I thoroughly enjoy, I have never happened across a blend that I could smoke all throughout the day, from dawn 'til dusk - until now.

This is hands down, just plain and simple an all day American style smoke. The burley nuttiness comes to the fore while the virginias afford a nice soft & sweet background note. They work together quite exquisitely. The cavendish does its job filling out the blend for a cool even burn. Completely enjoyable from start to finish all day long.
